Read up on some interviews, too. Matt said he would rather make less “inherently sad” songs and he wanted to seek the other colors of life as well. We see the gloom in ‘goodbye’ but we also see other colors of grief in ‘ready to let go’ which is literally written about his divorce, yet the song is pretty upbeat.

It is actually an average album, it's specific songs that are good. He didn't mention the good ones though, instead of reviewing each song in the album and averaging out the mix of good and bad, he looked at the bad ones, then he compared the bad ones to their old songs. Which is a really bad review tactic in my opinion. But still, cage creates gems, then they create trash. But making a playlist of the gems is what makes them so good.
@johnmichaelcrow5 жыл бұрын
How did you just review the entire album and not even mention the final track "Goodbye" it's easily one of the most emotionally charged songs I've ever heard connecting the listener to Matt's pain of truly loving someone, but inevitably coming to the realization and accepting that regardless of the effort put in by both sides the relationship is going nowhere, something relatable to almost everyone. While I respect your opinion I feel there is a ton of bias within this review on top of completely glossing over some of the brightest spots of the album.

Seth Carter considering he was going through a divorce at the time, it’s unusual that the songs lack emotion.

Their first two albums hold a special place in my heart and Melophobia is amazing. Surprisingly I didn't hear TMIP but this album didn't sound too bad.
@shollandmusic21315 жыл бұрын
On the first listen of the album and of the songs released prior to, with the exception of "Ready to let go" I would almost agree. But having listened multiple times I've come to really really love this album. At least 10 of the tracks are playlist for me and I find myself singing them in my head over and over.

It's a grower for sure. Skin and Bones, Social Cues, House of Glass, Dance, Dance, The War Is Over, Ready To Let Go and Tokyo Smoke are all exceptional tracks.

I agree that sure this album isn't as good as their best album, Melophobia, but I would probably put it as their second or third best. I do have nostalgia for their early material though. But while I do agree that I wish the emotion was more intense on most of these tracks, I feel like the odd disconnect and lack of emotion is kind of representative of how sometimes you get so depressed that it feels like you don't fell emotion at all. Especially after losing so many people that he was close to, I bet Matt had a hard time truly expressing himself. Especially when comparing it to the emotion on an album such as melophobia where he had just gotten married and was still in the early stages of his fame. But overall I still really enjoy this album. 7/10 with Tokyo Smoke and Skin and Bones being my fav tracks.

He's dead wrong. Album is a masterpiece of modern psychedelic pop/rock. It only sounds "mainstream" because the songs will stick in your head, but they'll also make you hum and bop and they're clearly CTE. "Skin and Bones" is amazing!

I certainly understand the points that you made but personally I love this album partially because I appreciate cage and all they do in general but also because there are definitely songs I can appreciate on this album, everyones opinions and music taste is subjective and I look for something that i can vibe with, which this album provides for me. However, I do think that melophobia is their best album to date and hope that in their future work they can return to that same quality and all-around atmosphere that melophobia possesses
@grantinskeep60395 жыл бұрын
He praised House Of Glass in his weekly track roundup then shots on it here lmao Imagine thinking Skin and Bones is more emotionally convincing than Goodbye. I agree Melophobia is the best CTE album. I think this record was a little ahead of Tell Me Im Pretty. I liked it. I’d give it a strong 7 to a light 8.

My first experience with this album was seeing them in concert relatively recently after its release. And i have to say i totally get all your complaints, and i dittoed a lot of them going to the album from the live show. I don't expect this to influence your rating, but the live show has a lot of what you think is missing from the album. It is much more visceral and dramatic than the album can portray on its own. A bit sad overall. But i wanted to let you know that what you wanted out of the album does exist somewhere.

I feel like they have gotten better with the times, which is an improvement with the music not everything is going to stay the way they did in 2008. It´s kind of dumb to expect exciting, catchy music out of this album. The focus of your opinion is more like: Oh man! This is not mainstream! Eww 5/10 i still liked some of the songs. Of course they were not going for the BEST rock album, because the topic won´t provoque them to be in the mood for rocking and doing fun songs. They were trying to make a more sentimental, positive message about superation, etc. I would give them 8/10 if not 10 because of the effort for doing something completely different. And yes, for me, innovation is improvement, which just means changing, not going crazier, or staying on the same genres for the whole life. Honestly this man doesn´t seem to understand the point of Cage The Elephant´s music. It´s funny to say that this is the reason of why he said things like: "Ohh what are these lyrics, they don´t have too much meaning, it´s al plane. So you only understand literal things huh? Lmao

Sorry, but musically, this album is ear candy - especially "Skin And Bones", "Social Cues", and "Dance, Dance". For me, this album is already a contender for album of the year. 9/10
@nickchristoforou78505 жыл бұрын
A very superficial review..."Night RUNNER?" Ready TO GO?"...I sense you gave the album a quick listen and then rushed to put out a review because you know the band has a huge following. We get it that you're not a fan, but you've got to put a little more effort before dissing an artist's work. "Social Cues", "Skin And Bones", and "Ready To Let Go" are outstanding for different reasons and the instrumental bridge in "Dance Dance" is brilliant.
