I feel like any war story (in a video game or not) should be focused on the war first than anything else. What made COD WAW such a good game was mainly due to it's "uncompromising legions to obscenity and evil". In other words, it cared more about portraying history the right way, as opposed to anything else.

What I noticed from the three big COD WW2 games is: Vanguard was the good guys vs the bad guy story. WW2 romanticized the war with brother in arms story. And World at War showed the brutal reality of warfare. It’s the reason why World at War was a great game and accurate historically. We’re never getting another cod ww2 game like that again, especially in this modern time.

I love how when you're in the fountain, your POV shows how the sky is just filled with Luftwaffe bomber planes. Gives a good idea how determined to bomb Stalingrad into oblivion they were. This game aged like fine premium expensive wine. And there is a reason for it: Now ww2 AAA shooters are full of shit: -Womans were not allowed into the battlefields -If you lost an arm, game over. There were no prothesis or similar shit back then. -War is crude, brutal and nobody won. -america is no hero, due to unleash two nuclear weapons on two cities full of civilians and following up the soviet-american cold war and vietnam war, and yet, those new age ww2 games show that america is the savior, russia and germany are the enemies. -theatrical hollywood storyline dosen't exsit in war: no one cares about you or if they do in war, they won't be close to you or die for you. Cod ww2 is the biggest example. -last but not least: if a ww2 game has a multyplayer mode,make it like it was in ww2: remove all of that assist shit, all those wierd gun equips, like red dots, in ww2... really? And guns should be brutal in executing your enemy: in COD WW2 if you shoot a guy with an mg42 in the legs, he takes damage and if he dies, he falls on the ground; In COD WAW if you shoot a guy with an mg42 in the legs, they get torn apart,like irl. All of this mixed up makes for a joke of a game and nit a game that shows the real horrors of War
