The Battle of the Seelow Heights (German: Schlacht um die Seelower Höhen) was part of the Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation (16 April - 2 May 1945). A pitched battle, it was one of the last assaults on large entrenched defensive positions of the Second World War. It was fought over three days, from 16-19 April 1945. Close to 1,000,000 Soviet soldiers of the 1st Belorussian Front (including 78,556 soldiers of the Communist Polish 1st Army), commanded by Marshal Georgy Zhukov, attacked the position known as the "Gates of Berlin". They were opposed by about 110,000 soldiers of the German 9th Army,[4] commanded by General Theodor Busse, as part of the Army Group Vistula. This battle is often incorporated into the Battle of the Oder-Neisse. The Seelow Heights was where some of the most bitter fighting in the overall battle took place, but it was only one of several crossing points along the Oder and Neisse rivers where the Soviets attacked. The Battle of the Oder-Neisse was itself only the opening phase of the Battle of Berlin.

I love that despite the fact you're on the winning side, the soundtrack still sounds ominous, when you're about to think that the OST is going to sound triumphant because you're winning, out of nowhere these 'disturbing' (should I call it) horns at minutes 1:40 and 3:57 play along with the creepy choir, conveying that feeling of winning the war but not really winning... I can't explain it. Also 12:45, 13:00, 13:20... no words. Cod WaW actually made me feel something that no other WW2 game will ever. I miss when they actually cared about the soundtrack... Nowadays we get a shitty DLC sold for full price.

Damn I can see it now replaying this wonderful campaign running with your infantry platoon guns blazing Germans retreating getting over ran by the oppressive forces invading inland riding the tank turret in and that other mission earning a free tank ride as you watch the fighter planes soar in over head that mission was cool on our way to the heart of the Reich. "1,000 year old soldiers...means 1,000 year old Reich".-OVERLORD
