Hibbert was a victim of small ball evolution. Even small ball is starting to fade in favor of hybrid basketball where a big guy can dribble up the court like Simmons and Giannis.

That doesn't explain Hibbert's rebounding and shooting efficiency dropping off.
@scottyhaines42267 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call it hybrid. It's positionless now. It's all defined roles instead of positions. The evolution of the game has destroyed his career though. He wasn't quick or agile enough to defend the pick and roll and he got decimated by faster players easily after the verticality law was enforced.

Evolution of the game happened. I didn't watch the video yet, but that has to be the answer. It's a new NBA. Floor spacing, freak athletes, and/or the ability to play perimeter and post defense. That is what's needed to be an elite center now.

@mrHoppedupford6 жыл бұрын
Poochie Collins He was to slow on defense and teams would force him to play on the perimeter on the defensive end and he wasn't a good enough scorer to consistently take advantage of smaller players so his minutes started to decrease which lowered his scoring and rebounding.

Poochie Collins Hibbert had literally no effect on the game outside the paint. All teams had to do was switch him onto perimeter players or just big men that were good at shooting 3s and he would be rendered useless. Small ball fucked him over big time.

I had no idea about that verticality rule and that the league changed it. I think that was the biggest thing that got him to regress so badly. "Going straight up" was his calling card on defense.
