Most people probably aren't going to have 14 attack power at this point in the game. This is a good boss to come back to after you get the mask and more attack power. I was getting destroyed trying to use this method with only 8 attack power, I leveled it up to 14, came back and beat him on 2nd try using this method.

i have 44 but you can read in the Sekiro Book only from 1-20 the Attack Power is much higher %. From 30 to 31 is only 0,12% and from 50 to 51 is 0,02% and and and but from 5 to 6 is 15%

I can't understand how this video has any dislikes. It is brilliant and immensely helpful for those struggling to maintain 5 - 10 mins of constant deflection and quick return attack. This is definitely not a cheese (in the Demon of Hatred falling of a cliff sense), it is a strategy. It still takes a bit of work to properly execute it

Still his posture bar was pretty high so just had to block him and hit him a couple of times again with mortal blade. I got him on my 3rd try. STILL WORKS GUYS 26/04/2020. But if you are attack power below 14, second fase will be longer... Just do as in the vídeo until you run out of buffs... Then run, heal... And come back for him. Use deflects and attack when you can. Dont give up!

Holy shit thank you for this man, just did this without the rice and rice balls, got my ass handed to me twice using this method but I beat him the third time. The one thing I don't like about souls games is being able to reach super tough enemies before you are levelled up enough. It actually makes ng+ easier as you carry over a lot of stuff.

I'm probably doing it wrong but whenever I rush in and use mortal draw he just takes it and does a 5 hit combo. It seems that the best way would be to just get better and learn he's moves. Went through the whole game just destroying everything but he just won't let up. Hits harder then my dad.

Ok so mine wasn't quite like yours the first round (I had no rice balls but I did have 20 vitality and 15 attack). But I buffed up ran up and beat him down till I had to run and heal then ran back and hit more to get the deathblow. It worked. Then the second round I used the rice and all buffs and finally beat the fool. Would have been easier with the rice balls (as mentioned in the video). Not a ideal way to do it but it worked (after a few tries to figure out when to run and heal)...lol Thanks for the video

PLAYING ON XBOX ONE? READ BELOW This has been a great help - thank you, Cainfoe! For anyone wondering, this method is still perfectly achievable as of Jan 2020. It might also take a number of attempts so don't be disheartened if it doesn't work the first time around! Owl's immediate response to the attack at the start of the fight is random, though I found it is possible to quickly press him up against one of the pillars with Mortal Draw where he is less likely to jump away and perform his firecracker attack. Furthermore, my attack power was only at level 10 as I did this first, before proceeding to Fountainhead Palace. This meant I was able to easily dispatch him in his first phase and then only get through half of his second before having to rely on the deflection skills that got me to this boss in the first place. It's a cake walk from here as you should still have most of your gourd replens available, and Owl's posture bar will have stopped resetting, due to his diminished health bar. Finally, regarding the back-up disclaimer, for those of you (like me) who are playing on Xbox, I found a way that worked for me: 1. Ready your character for your encounter with Owl (don't commence the fight). Exit the game normally through the menu system (ensuring your game is uploaded to the cloud). 2. Log back into the game, going back to exactly where you were before. 3. Immediately disconnect your Xbox from the internet (without exiting the game, or starting the boss fight). 4. Once your console is offline, start the fight with Owl following the steps from this video. 5. If it appears that the fight is not going as intended (i.e. you get killed, or you're likely to get killed having exhausted your hard earned confetti, red lumps etc.), then, WHILE REMAINING OFFLINE, exit the game, navigate to your games list. Highlight Sekiro, select Manage Game and Add-on's, navigate to your Sekiro saved game, and (AGAIN CHECK THAT YOU ARE OFFLINE FIRST) delete it. 6. Reconnect your console to the internet, and start up Sekiro. It will sync to the cloud and pull your save game from step 1, placing you directly outside of Owl's lair, ready for you to take him on again with all your confetti, red lumps etc. 7.Immediately disconnect your Xbox from the internet (without exiting the game, or starting the boss fight). 8. Once your console is offline, start the fight with Owl following the steps from this video. 9. If the fight is going well and you're likely to defeat him (i.e. you've arrived at his second phase with items & confidence aplenty), then hit the menu button (pausing the game), and reconnect your console to the internet. 10. Resume your game, beat Owl and get your achievement (as it only pops when you are online).

Holy cow, it works! I only had 12 att points, so I used fine snow instead of rice. Could nail 1st phase easily but had trouble with 2nd one. Took me 10 attempts or so to beat him. My biggest issue was that Father Owl would not stay in one corner or sometimes use firecrackers to escape... but could always make him low health. So I had to run away and wait for safe windows to chip away at his health. Again, thanks you so much for the strat!

I have 17 attack power and I can't get his posture to break by the time all but the confetti's effect run out. You seem to be doing much more damage than I do, even with less attack power. I'm using the 1.2 version. Could it be that it has something to do with it?

Not sure buddy, this is the latest patch 1.04, my recommendation will be to back up your file before the boss gate and keep trying and also update the game just in case. This cheese normally takes a few tries before making it, also the more atk power you have the better.

Thanks for watching my dude. I'll be honest this took me quite some time to figure out since I tested every prostetic and skill after patch 1.04. By far this is the only Owl Father Cheese n' the easiest strat that really works by having the regular NG max atk (14) without using dragon mask n' vit level (18) - 2 points from max in case you miss the 2 breads during mid game mini bosses. This also works till NG+2 w/ x2 the required atk power for each NG and by dodging his hammer atk 2:08

December 2020: Just done - first phase as in the video, secound phase the same but he didn't get stuck I had to use a resurrection and run back to the corners for one more ako's sugar, devine confetti and rice ball (I had 2) then a couple deflects and some mortal draws even tho they weren't as powerful. I was on 20 vitality and 14 power. Summary - 3 devine confetti, 3 ako's sugar, 2 red lumps (or 3 not sure), 1 rice and 2 rice balls with one resurrect. xD

I have two different stacks for "sweet rice ball" (they do look the same, are named the same, but the item description is slightly different)... when he does the kanji (unblockable horizontal slash) all you have to do is jump straight up and use mortal draw (you need air combat arts) that will stagger owl father and prevent him from doing the rest of his combo so you don't have to keep jumping away from him.
