Did you play it over Christmas Dinner and the explicit version of Don't Marry Her come on? I know a few people who were cringing when grandparents nearly choked on a Brussels sprout! I think Paul Heaton talked about it in an interview.
@BarryFrancis Жыл бұрын
@@michelle88960, Don’t Marry Her is on the album Blue Is The Colour not Carry On Up The Charts. I only know this because I had Blue Is The Colour CD and was quite surprised at the change in the lyrics of the album version compared to the single release, especially as there wasn’t any “parental warning” label on it like you would have now.

That line "Midnight, a husband getting ready to fight, the daughter sleeps alone with the light turned on, she hears." Gets me everytime. I was that kid. My mam and dad coming home arguing and fighting, I sneaked downstairs once and saw my mam with a knife. I'm 50 now and I still think about it. Don't think kids don't hear your arguments.

Paul Heaton is a master of happy sounding songs that have dark or cynical lyrics. Everybody thinks “Don’t Marry Her” is a romantic song and it’s about a bloke having an affair! 😂 Same with “Song for Whoever” another romance that’s actually about the bloke only dating these girls so that he has material for the songs he writes, and how he thinks of them in a generic way.

back in the 80s here in South America we made our "own hits cassettes" recording live from radio and mixing manually (with a bic pen as an "editor") in the boombox; the lucky friends that happend to own a double deck were the replicators for the rest of the gang

Before I knew about the first 3 Beautiful South albums I didn't know Jackie Abbott wasn't the original female vocalist. Another thing I noticed about Briana Corrigan was that she never got asked to do solo vocals which was one of the reasons she left The Beautiful South but it was the song 36D that made her finally decide to leave the band and persue as a solo artist. Then after that Paul Heaton agreed to allow Jacqui Abbott and Alison Wheeler to do some songs as a solo.
