Amazing music is created each day. On Spottify alone, about 60 000 new tracks are uploaded daily. We can't listen to it all, anymore. The mainstream in the 80s was very "main," and exposure was fairly limited to radio, TV and the stuff you could get at record outlets. I still love this song, being an 80s kid. From Russia , with love, admiration and deep gratitude for this magic of music, feelings that are so hard to define but they're so true, so sad and and at the same time reviving something long forgotten, something real inside... Mark, you're such a blessing,thank you!!!
@tomthumb47192 жыл бұрын
My best wishes from England to Russia. They try and divide us but we must not give them our power. The west has been antagonising for much too long and always the common people who are the fodder to their nihilistic aims. Music crosses these boundaries.

@@tomthumb4719 thank you for your words of wisdom🙏it means a lot when people can stay undivided in the face of terrible things happening... And music is a way of healing this. I sometimes think that maybe it's God's blessing that Mark didn't have to see the pandemic and this horrific antagonism, he left the world I would like to come back to...

This song has been a favorite of mine for decades now. I remember I had a dream and in the dream I was listening to this song. I woke up and listened to it multiple times that day and sometime during the day I looked up Mark Hollis to see what's he up to now. Suffice it to say that my jaw dropped as that day was February 26th 2019, one day after he died. Mark Hollis, you will never be forgotten.

Ya, that's me too. I'm definitely a minor chord girl, and what does it for me is the background vocals in the chorus. They're haunting and are done in that minor passing chord progression behind the lead in such a way that it naturally sends chills up the spine. It makes the song feel very heavy, foreboding, and deep, that combination, which when you watch the video makes it even more interesting because the video is so whimsical and light-hearted. Such an awesome group and this is my favorite song of theirs.

The music of the 80s was influenced by all the greats of the 60s and 70s, and then had the advantage of the power of new technology with synths and electronics to allow guitarists to take their sound even further. Mark had such an incredible voice and was a phenomenal song writer and visioneer. Modern music struggles to find anyone of his level of talent. Plenty of pretend garbage though.

Well, being sad of losing Mark Hollis is such a shame. He made us such a precious gift and now it is upon us to keep up with it. His performance on this clip is astonishing to me and I have to re-evaluate all his work through his light laughs and his dark frowns (already started). Bonus: when the clip starts he (mute) says "hello to you all". Also, extract from Mateo1980: "Number me with rage" meaning: Assign to me the number that has come out after rolling the dice (and that's the number that decides my destiny-by chance). Assign it with rage, assign it in haste. Our destiny is decided by those trembling hands that roll the dice. One cannot react. One can only stare. It's a shame that we are given a number that decides our destiny. But it's inevitable. One cannot believe that there is an escape from his/her own very destiny. The eagerness to change is nullified by the immutability of fate. A life on every face is reference to the face of the die, each one reflecting a different path. That's all folks.
