Caitlin Clark led Iowa to an Elite 8 victory over defending Champions LSU. Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright discuss how important this matchup was for the sport, and if the Denver Broncos will be improved after moving on from Russell Wilson. Plus, they discuss if the New England Patriots should trade down from the 3rd overall pick.

LoL at Tiger Woods getting someone to watch something more boring than paint drying. My 3 sports icons as far as impact on my attraction to sports and changed my outlook are Mike Tyson, Allen Iverson & Serena Williams. Tyson captivated households when i was a kid, a fight party in every apartment in every building in every home when i was a kid, Tyson fights were spectacles, transcending sporting events. Allen Iverson changed thr NBA landscape and put the league, the owners, the refs all on defense in a way Jordan never did. I watched Tennis casually as a kid, I would watch an occasional game but was quietly a fan of Monica Seles, Jennifer Capriatti, Aranxa Sanchez Vicario and Michael Chang... I enjoyed their tenacity but when Serena showed up with her sisters power but an overall game that felt like the best parts of all the players i already knew sbd followed, i became a tennis fanatic. This is my list, respectfully

Regarding Russell Wilson, you can make the argument that if Russ knew Payton was gonna get rid of him, then Riss not playing as well as he could for the Broncos, but playing for self, was Payton's fault. The coach has to get the best play out of his players. If that means lying to Russ, and saying we're gonna be together forever, and then trading him, so be it. Payton has to get Russ to play his best

russell wilson is the first player in nfl history where he's deadass been great for 10 years straight, had 1 bad year with a terrible coach playing hurt, and again had a great year and gets KILLED for it. Even the goats like Brady and manning had a down year or two in the middle of their career, but russ is the only one i've ever seen get killed for it.
@brandonkyc1472
@brandonkyc1472 Ай бұрын
Russ wasn't able to get into the playoffs when all he had to do was beat an awful patriots team. He couldn't score a touchdown after getting the ball on the 5 yard line in the beginning of the game, and then tried coming back when it was too late in the game. He went on a win streak last year because of a turnover streak from the defense that kept giving him chances to score with a short field. Games where the defense didn't have a good turnover ratio, the lions game for example, they got beat and killed because the offense was clamped and the defense got exposed. So no, he didn't have a great year last year, it was a fake statistical year with a guy who was getting paid too much for mediocre play.

Nick says Russ was selfish in not wanting to throw INTs but I actually think it's something far deeper in Russ's psyche. I've been a Seahawks fan my whole life and ever since Russ got to Seattle, Pete coached him hard not to turn the ball over, to the point where Russ wouldn't pull the trigger on obviously open receivers in tight windows - the kinds of passes that other QBs have no fear in attempting. The one time Russ actually started opening things up in the 2019 season, about halfway through he started throwing INTs at a rate that was unlike the rest of his career, and he got leashed for it. Now, we know Russ has an issue throwing over the middle, and I'm not going to debate that because the heat maps speak for themselves. But Russ's reluctance to throw interceptions goes beyond that and I really believe a lot of it has to do with the way Pete coached him. I almost think that coaching has damaged Russ, especially in the aftermath of Let Russ Cook, because he just plays fearful, like he's afraid of making a single interception. But this is not new. He's played that way since DAY 1 in Seattle. I think to some degree Russ knows that because of his physical stature he will always have a shorter leash than other QBs. He doesn't look like Josh Allen, so he's not going to get the same leeway that a Josh Allen gets. Russ knows he has to take care of the ball or he's done. Because you can be a mistake prone QB in the NFL, but if you "look" like a prototypical QB then you get some consideration. But if you're short, can't see well over the line and into the middle of the field, and you've been dogged with that stigma you're whole life, then you don't have the same margin for error. And I think Russ knows that.

Nick's age/generational perspective definitely contributes to some of his most known sports takes. I'm only a few years older than him and was squarely in the Jordan/Tiger Era - so to hear him mention it as the Shaq/Tiger Era made me chuckle. If he were born 3 or 4 years earlier, he wouldn't have used Shaquille O'Neal's spectacular dunks and movie roles as reasons he was iconic. Mainly because a different basketball star got there first and on a global level. Just a few years and Nick likely wouldn't have such a strong LeBron GOAT take. 😅 He would probably be the opposite.

@jamesjackson2117 Yes, he did say last 25 years, so that is a more specific time period. But MJ was still active, so I think if Nick was around a little earlier he would have still put Michael on that tier with Tiger and not Shaq. I was in junior high when Shaq started in Orlando, and even during the shoes, broken backboards, rap albums and movies - it was still Jordan's world in a sense. But when Nick was watching, it was Lakers-era Shaq and Iverson dominating the league. So he just barely missed really the whole reason Jordan fans swear by him. They saw him play and saw the immediate impact in real time. 😆 It was like if Caitlyn Clark played 100 games every year and just kept scoring and winning for about a decade. And she sold you McDonalds, Gatorade, Nikes, Lay's Potato Chips, Coca-Cola, Chevy, Hanes underwear and Wheaties. Plus Clark has the top movie with Bill Murray in it, a cologne and a Saturday Morning cartoon. 😆 Nick missed the whole thing. People talk about Mahomes-fatigue, when Jordan was simply inescapable in a pre-internet world. Really wild when you think about it.

First off, absolute shame on your show and studio that you guys can't figure out your audio. People have been complaining and commenting on it for months and you guys still refuse to fix it. Second, Nick hit the nail right on the head about Russ. People who have never watched a Broncos game the past 2 years he was in Denver will point to his stat line saying he's still got it. They are absolutely wrong. He is horrendous and makes so many boneheaded, drive-killing plays, that it's no wonder Sean wanted to bench him. Now, Nick's take that Russ was one of the most selfish players last year was something I never thought about, but he's completely right on that part, too. Russ knew he was out after the end of his first year, so he made it a goal to try and make his stats look as good as possible to have any kind of market when the Broncos decide to move on.
