The disdain for Caitlin Clark, accurately called Caitlin Clark Derangement Syndrome, does not just involve ill wishes, race-baiting, and mauling of Caitlin on the court. It extends to her parents in the stands, as evidenced here in the biased CBS reporting, which includes mentions of Brent and Anne Clark. Excuse me as I call him out.

I totally agree with you. Also, CC parents haven't asked to be shown on TV, the media does it on their own. The same thing with CC, she never entered the league saying she was the best ever and planned to show up all the Vets that came before her. She came in with all the hype the media gave her, and with all that pressure I think she has handled it well so far. If all these haters want to take it out someone, it should be the media, not this 22 year old young woman.

@Adnil169 She never said those things but she never put the media in its place by coming out and saying that they are being very disrespectful to the other women in the WNBA. So if you're quiet and soaking in all the media hype and not correcting them, that means you're complicit with the nonsense. I feel the same way the announcer does. I'm tired of seeing Caitlyn Clark parents also. Plenty of these young ladies have family members in the stands supporting them but they act like Caitlyn is the only one.

Your comments continue to be well-considered and thoughtful on this topic. I watched that game and totally missed that. This isn't going to go away, but Caitlin has mentioned before that, in her position, some people love her and some people hate her, and she accepts that as real life. She has a very mature ability to concentrate on what she's doing to muddle through the noise that's surrounding her and focus on what she loves, which is learning from each game, then coming out the next game. And I believe her thoughts are something along the lines of "OK, throw your best stuff at me ... I can take it ... but now I have a better idea of what's coming my way. If you think that's going to stop me, you have another thing coming. I'll just keep getting better." And she will say that politely. By the way, you're some kind of a wonderful person.

One could easily back during the late 1990s and post-1990s stretch have made the same sort of reaction to Tiger Woods, a very good golfer who hasn't quite made it to the level of being the iconic golfer that previous legends like Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus held over the sports following public. Woods had incredibly good stretches in his career before he declined into just being mediocre in the tournaments, except Woods early on was given the same sort of fawning attention from the media even though from all appearances, he was someone born with a silver spoon in his mouth and spoiled with everything he ever needed before he became a pro golfer. Clark on the other hand grew up in humble surroundings near the capital of Iowa with a devoted family alongside her, if anything, it should be Woods who should be a little more hated for being nothing but some pampered, spoiled prodigy golfer who was never lacking for anything as a kid. Just the truth and the facts here, no resentments.

Iowan here, deep roots: Our Iowan deal is simple and exactly what people should expect. We value hard work and loyalty, self-sacrifice and a bit of wry humor. What this means is we value fairness. We believe everyone should be given a fair shot - at anything. (This was born in and continues in our farm routes, where we understood that life was built through community teamwork). So we will meet anyone with a smile, an open hand shake, a welcome to our home, our field, our school, our stadium. We love Caitlin because she tried. She worked hard and she tried, and she worked hard more and she actually did it. She wasn't the biggest, fastest, strongest, but she set her mind to it, we support her for this. She was also loyal to her team, the people who always supported her, and she even reached out with a big heart to everyone that she could. She had a special focus on the children's hospital at Iowa (famous for the most amazing thing in sports - the football location and Wave) and from the start she has focused her fame on charity - creating entire product lines to benefit others. Of course she also focuses on the kids she meets, who watch her, and on being a role model of humility, diligence, and team loyalty. Our love for her changes not at all whether she wins or loses, because she lives the right way. Her parents deserve all of the credit for their own diligence, love, and insight into raising their daughter to be the best she can be. We have seen highly visible parents of young phenoms before - there are similarities in excellence to the parents of Tiger Woods and the William's sisters, who have been lauded. Yet for some reason, Caitlin's parents aren't lauded. Instead they are ignored...and now we get the sideways remarks. This is a real shame. A shame on the people who make the sideways remarks. . . The first time I noticed this was when Iowa beat South Carolina and Dawn Staley tried to frame Coach Bluder as racist, after Bluder said the rebounding battle was ''like a bar fight'' Staley tried to put dirty words in Bluder's mouth by saying "We're not monkeys". (This then bled to the SC players then to the LSU players leading to the Reese display and LSU talking worse, about Caitlin, than Fuzzy Zoeller did about Tiger.) I was shocked. We were shocked. Bluder was shocked. But of course, Iowa style, she didn't take the bait and moved right past it. - Many coastal people like to think Iowans are dumb (farmers, flyovers), but they fail to consider the state of mind of the people who produce more food than those of any other state. The level of cooperation, hard work, and reliability would be shocking to many people. (This is why they were shocked to see the Iowa team be the most efficient in the country). Well, however dumb or wise we might be, we do have clear memories. We have been learning a lot from how Clark, who has harmed no one and benefitted MANY, is being treated. . . However unintentionally, Caitlin Clark has become our Canary in the Cultural Mine. She brought us her cheer and beautiful way, yet we know she is vulnerable. We should want nothing more than a culture where girls (women) like her can flourish (of course boys and men too). Yet if our culture is too toxic for her to be allowed to flourish, again - who caused no harm and benefitted many, then we are in a mine of deep trouble. Right now, that appears to be the case - and instead of looking up at the light people are caught in echo chambers. The more people yell the more they become lost in the echos, not only losing track of the Canary (and where this all started - a simple appreciation of women's sport), people are losing track of themselves. They are getting sick indeed, in that foul air. It is no wonder that the announcer said he is feeling sick, carrying such thoughts. Clark may yet flourish, but there are many who are blowing winds against her, happy to see her wings clipped, even waiting for her to crumble. - I doubt that she will because, because of her great Will and her relationship to God and to her parents who will be there for her, and to her state, as we will be there for her. We won't desert her, even if she loses every single game. It's worth noting that there is no amatuer sports culture like that if Iowa. It's not a mania for winning, like found at many big schools. We share in the pain of our athletes losses. (Last year, Spencer Lee - one of the greatest wrestlers in history nearly became the first Hawkeye, and only 5th man, to win 4 NCAA championships. He lost just before his last match. We don't respect or support him any less and believe he will find his Phoenix moment in the Olympics. Of course the greatest sports story I've ever known is about Dan Gable - such a great story that I will simply say, please find and read/see it.) And it should go without saying we love all types, all backgrounds, all creeds of people. The athletes who come to Iowa from afar end up calling Iowa their second home. B.J. Armstrong and Roy Marble, our two best (men) basketball players talked about this. We aren't unlike Larry Bird's mom (from Indiana) in this - we would invite anyone to dinner and we would be thrilled for the company and hope to become friends for life. On the other hand, we are a bit naive. We never expected that when we would reach out our hand in friendship and good sportsmanship that we would be slapped, more than once even. So, needs must, if people continue to slap at our good graces we will retract our easy hand. - I would refer people to check out the women's basketball (post game) coverage on Hawkeye of the Storm (no formal affiliation) Kachine Alexander was a Hawkeye standout and she now joins the show. There you will discover the ease, sportsmanship, and bit of humor that an athlete shares (even though she moved after college) with Iowans. If people knew the truth, they'd know that we would like to share like this with everyone. We would treat everyone as a friend (especially fans of opponent teams). We would treat every young person as well as we treat our own kids. I would included Caitlin Clark's parents in this, for of course she learned her charitable values and care for kids from them.

@@joemateo9 reading your reply it just occurred to me that this is somewhat an attack on parenting. We've come up with such a contrary and narcissistic subculture recently that people cannot acknowledge the fundamental importance of parents, community, church, or any type of deeper fellowship. It's honestly amazing to me that there hasn't been a front and center narrative talking about her parents and the Iowa culture that supports youth. We had a little bit of this with Tiger Woods dad and the Williams sisters dad where everybody wanted to know their secret ways, but even that didn't go too far and seemed more focused on how to make your kid a millionaire then how to make your kid do well in life.

@@theadriennerossshow3143 I agree, but I think what this teams needs most is to bond, work together as a team & feel like they can depend on & trust each other. And that comes from the coach. Sides even admitted after the Sparks win that CC was helping her coach by suggesting they needed plays for teammates that were shooting well or whose defenders were allowing them openings. I've seen NaLyssa Smith, Kelsey Mitchel & CC frustrated with Sides coaching at different time these past 2 wks. And then there is her favoritism of Wheeler & Wallace, who played for her in Atlanta & she talked the Fever into bringing on the team as soon as she became coach last year. She doesn't have the respect of the players b/c she has done everything to show them she doesn't deserve it. The only thing out of her control is the horrific starting schedule they were given that hasn't allowed the team to even have a rest day much less a practice day. The schedule is the fault of the WNBA who chose to use CC like a rented mule to get attention for other teams, sell ticket in other arena, & get a lucrative broadcasting contract. Rebecca Lobo even pointed out that no team has had a schedule this bad since 2013. She even suggested Sides should bench CC & Kelsey Mitchell this last game against the Aces b/c this schedule is actually risking the health & safety of the Fever players.

I don’t know if you’ve done your video on last nights game, but I can’t wait to hear it. What the hell benching both Clark and Smith in the last quarter it seems so obvious I can’t imagine Kaytlyn what she’s going through. She’s actually so professional and won’t put anyone down, but man give it up to her because most of us would probably be saying things that were inappropriate

Caitlin did say, in a very diplomatic way, that they did well when she was point guard. It was a quick comment in the post game press conference. And she used other words, but I think she meant they did the best when she was running the offense. And she is 100% correct.

You are ABSOLUTELY right on! I’m more than weary of the racial hypocrisy and double standard, I’m angry about it! We are REGRESSING in uncomfortable, unjust, and very dangerous ways! What a disservice to the extraordinary progress we made. It is disrespectful to those who fought, died, and spent their lives working towards our country living up to our stated & codified principles & laws! I am so disheartened and truly concerned about what’s happening in our society. There is a war on merit in this country. There is a war on exceptionalism in this country. There is an anti white sentiment that has somehow become acceptable after being ushered in via the Marxist inspired Frankfurt School’s critical theory / critical race theory nurtured and installed bit by bit since the 30’s that was set on fire this last decade. It’s not acceptable or healthy for our nation.

When a child enters life with a strong support group that includes men and women, that child has a better chance of success during life because that person is not as vulnerable as those left without people that have their back. I bet her dad is making sure she has the best legal and marketing people looking out for her best interest and he is vetting everyone that comes in her life. It is such a rare thing that is put on display today by media. It makes me feel good to know that someone is watching out for her when so many are against her in her new enviroment.

...It just occurred to me that this is somewhat an attack on parenting. We've come up with such a contrary and narcissistic subculture recently that people cannot acknowledge the fundamental importance of parents, community, church, or any type of deeper fellowship. It's honestly amazing to me that there hasn't been a front and center narrative talking about her parents and how uniquely the Iowa culture supports youth, including having the longest and deepest history of supporting girls basketball. We had a little bit of parental acknowledgment with Tiger Woods dad and the Williams sisters dad, where everybody wanted to know their secret ways, but even that didn't go too far and seemed more focused on how to make your kid a millionaire then how to make your kid do well in life. If I could I would give every kid a chance to grow up with supportive parents and in a small community where they are supported. We all know that this is not possible, and that's where the community comes in to fill in where sometimes parents cannot. Everyone could stand to learn from how the Iowa community generally does this, not perfectly, but well enough that Clark is not the only overachiever who comes out of the cornfield and fly over state. A quick look at the football team and one will find that the most NFL players who started out as three stars or even walk ons come out of Iowa s program. There's a story out there right now about a dad who goes to schools and he started a gentleman's club for the young boys, so they could learn the positive ways of interacting as a man, unfortunately this story isn't blowing up.

What we have is a war on traditional families. This man raised her, he coached her, he loves her, he supports her, he's extremely important to her and so is her mother. Her parents seem to love each other, they never divorced. They are ALWAYS there for her. They raised quality human beings. OH NO, we can't have these people on TV being excellent role models for young parents and what's possible if you do stuff right. No, no no. You can't control society if you can't get between children and their parents. Bottom line.

I wonder if part of why he doesn't want to see CC's dad is bc he knows she's been being bullied and very nearly injured every game with all the uncalled flagrant fouls she's received. Maybe subconsciously he's reminded of the indefensibility of it all, that this is someone's child -- just like all the other players are. Maybe in some part of his brain he's thinking, how would I as a man feel to watch my daughter being practically mugged out there with refs (police) so biased they not only won't call these horrible fouls but actually add insult to injury by calling tech fouls on *the victim* the rare times she speaks up. It's prison ball alright, and it's horrible to witness. No integrity, no shame. Reminds me of women in Afghanistan and Pakistan who get stoned to death for getting raped and then naming their perpetrator, telling the truth. CC's not the only one being treated brutally, she just gets it the most, by far.

We absolutely need to see dads at games. He seems to imply that the focus is being taken away from the court to where it's not meant to be. Absolutely awful take. Could have been ok as maybe a badly delivered joke but made worse by how he doubled down on it. It's too late for most of these players, huge company's that offer endorsements expect people to project a positive attitude and this directly affects sales of their product. You've all blown that opportunity out the window before you entered WNBA Along comes Caitlin with incredible collegiate numbers and a much more likeable personality. Tenacious yes, disrespectful, absolutely not. Has a positive image and that's it in a nutshell. Big sporting good companies had their eye on Caitlin during her 9:13 9:13 College days. Don't blame her for your shortcomings. "You Blew It" no one else! NBA men are behind her, that's proof enough for me. What better endorsement is there.

I think we need to get a hold of his boss, he should be fired. Maybe Catlin needs to step away from the WNBA, and take her fans over to the Big3, let the players go back to flying commercial. If she walked away this league would tank. unappreciated people, if I'm the owner of the Seattle Storm, and knew my team didn't even shake hands with The Fever players I would be upset, with so much disrespect going on to a young lady who only wants to play competeive ball, only speaks for itself. She doesn't even mention the hate. When do the team owners step in, and come down on this hate, in the end without Catlin the league doesn't survive. There will be a breaking point sooner or later and the league and all its players will only lose all its credibility. Shameful, after what i seen after the end of the Fever Storm game, makes me only want to watch and support the fever more, and tune out the rest of the other teams, no support for them.
