i honestly really like the simplicity of it. i would’ve liked more variety in the outfits bc that’s always one of my favorite things in BP videos and seeing them reused in more than like one scene was jarring but that’s just nitpicky 😭 i see why people think the white backgrounds look empty or odd but i really do think it was to emphasize the main set piece (all of which are now stuffed with cash and black + pink, lol) and the girls. idk. it was different for them. i really liked it and i think i’ll go back to it a lot.

It’s so satisfying to see them just do what they do and continue to go up and up. I also love the vulnerability & maturity in this album.. they’ve really grown as individuals and as artists.

many have differing opinions about this album, saying that Shut Down isn't the best song, and that it shouldn't be the title track, and things like that but i think Shut Down is the title track because it's a statement, a declaration of some sort, that it's a new era, a new level for the girls. 🖤💗

Shut Down I think it's literally a compilation of absolutely his entire career so far, all the references to his songs and all that, I love it!! This album showed so much of their versatility this era and this album. Its different and fresh but i love it! I appreciate how they took this route. I am so proud of them. the interesting thing about the mv is that they used past props from their mvs, so Rosè on the globe was from their mv Whistle. Jennie on that sliver tank was from Kill This Love, Lisa with that samurai sword was DDu Du DDu and Jisoo was also DDu Du DDu! lastly Jennie with the fire was playing with fire. Rosè on the chandelier was Kill This Love (please feel free to correct me if i made any mistakes thank you and have a great day❤)

I think that the whole goal of this song is showing they're only going up from there. Each scene (most of them) were from one of their previous MVs and they shut down the doors and at the end they take the elevator and go up and you see a new hallway of doors so I really think it's about starting anew starting with Born Pink. Honestly, this song and MV was such a nice sendoff to their previous eras as they move onto new horizons 💖 ...Not to mention all the savage lines like "It's not a comeback since we never left" and "Keep talking and we shut you down" 😭🔥. I also think the frustration with the formula is the whole point of a formula is to streamline the song making process and speed up that process, but with blackpink they have massive gaps between comebacks- which feels like a big contradiction (also YG's general "we focus on quality not quantity" and then giving BP the same song 80% of the time which doesn't feel like quality to me). It feels like waiting such a long time for the same old thing that could have been made in a matter of weeks/months. I really appreciate the switch up of Shut Down's sound and giving us an actual chorus.
