"I struggle with mental health" has gone so fast from meaning something to everything to nothing.
@ohboilien11 ай бұрын
Very true. For years I struggled to tell people that I often can’t meet up or work because of my depression and anxiety. And now as it’s more accepted when I tell people they’re like “ugh yeah I’m also super depressed lately” and I don’t even know what to reply 🙃
@AyshaLovesYou11 ай бұрын
Because people started blaming all of their actions on mental health. Being depressed does not give you a pass to treat people like crap 👏🏻 you can’t blame your disrespect towards others on mental health issues. I don’t know how people started getting those two things confused
@SarastistheSerpent11 ай бұрын
While I don’t exactly disagree, I feel like it only _seems_ to mean nothing because a lot of people say they struggle with mental health issues, and because it comes across as a trend, we assume it is. But in reality, nearly 40% of the population does actually have or will have a mental health condition.

I don’t think it’s going to work like that in Matt Rife’s case, TBH. I think he shot himself in the foot. When he portrayed himself as a relatively progressive guy, his shows were selling out anyway because he’s really good-looking and got huge on TikTok for bantering with his audience. He’s vocalized his disappointment in not having many male fans, and his sudden turn to sexism is his attempt to change that, but the fact is that he’s not funny. He never was. So he’s not going to grow his straight male audience no matter how sexist he is. Because he sucks, and he’s bitten the hand that fed him.

What blows my mind is if the majority of your fanbase is women, WHY would you want to alienate them? Just seems like a bad business move
@Raigaara11 ай бұрын
Cause he's already peaked in that department. The only dudes at his shows are those women's husbands or boyfriends. He wants a bigger audience and the only audience left to gain is single dudes 18-35. Since more people are talking about him than ever before seems like it's been a decent business move so far.
@etothez989811 ай бұрын
It is a back and forth play. He is an attractive man and women crave for him and his good looks, you see it very often when he is doing crowd work. Through his act he has that sweet bad boy persona wich the women find appealing. It is basically a flirt with those insult-compliments. And because he is hot it works. Someone like Louis C.K (despite his former actions) could never pull something like that
@udontevenwannaknowbruv11 ай бұрын
It’s just sad that he thinks the way to get a male audience is to blatantly disrespect women instead of just… oh I don’t know, write actually funny jokes for once? But apparently he wants to appeal to all the incels, divorcees and rednecks now
@udontevenwannaknowbruv11 ай бұрын
@@etothez9898 I don’t think women are all that interested in him anymore after that blunder. Also his ‘good looks’ are due to filler, you can see the difference clearly in his old pictures. But I bet he’s never gonna admit that and just chalk it up to losing weight. So essentially he wants an audience full of insecure women and misogynistic men?

No because he’s never been funny, how he got such a big comedy platform in the first place amazes me, especially when there are much better comedians out there who aren’t nearly as popular, Matt Rife is just lucky so many people thought he was attractive because otherwise he wouldn’t have had a career.
