I love a good Turducken with cornbread and oyster dressing, But as an old man thinking back I remember one year my uncle in Oregon made a Smoked Turkey and filled the with onions, turnips, rutabagas, fingerling potatoes and parsnips inside it and I must say that was the best tasting turkey I ever had. My aunts made the stuffing and baked it in the oven. Everyone was sitting around with their pants unsnapped. It was kinda like the turkey leg you can get at the fair, and the veggies mashed with some gravy on top was really something as were the homemade cranberries. plus we had a reg. turkey also along with ham, Lots of people there.

Happy Thanksgiving to your family. We used to go all out. Turkey, pineapple ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, black olives, sweet pickles, fruit salad, cranberry sauce. While waiting for dinner we would have a vegetable tray with dip, cheese, summer sausage and crackers. This year being by myself i am fixing steak fajitas. Jim you are a blessed man to have such a beautiful wife in Lydia. I really like how you both work together as one. Much love from Washington state

All my extended family, my self and my husband like turkey. My daughters do not. After most of their growing yrs, they ate enough of other dishes to be satisfied. But when they were almost grown, we made roasted primerib. Or ribeye roast. Noone says you have to eat turkey to be traditional. You can make your own traditions for generations to come. 😊❤ 23:59

My late father used to make a corn casserole where you fry chopped up bacon, saute onion in the bacon drippings and then add a combination of whole sweet kernel corn and creamed corn and then bake it in the oven. It is good and it reminds me of him anytime I make it. ❤

Being an English man in UK - I use any holiday world wide for an excuse ... Where I live there are many friends who are from USA (all over so its important to celebrate, however as you say I am constantly surprised how many don't like Turkey, so I go with the defunct UK Christmas concept and purchase a load of large cornfed chickens and cook them in a similar vein, The unexpected result the first time I did this everyone was happy because they all had a leg each and no infighting 😄 To couple this we all bring in something to contribute so we end up with about 14 veg of various sorts and weird combinations of mac & cheese etc. IN the UK we would call this a "pot luck celebration" Must work out ok every year it getting bigger😁 Oh yes forgot might have something to do with the booze on tap / supply as well. Graham PS happy thanks giving.....

You could thrown down some elastomeric roof coating sealant on that tape to UV protect it. Brining our turkey is the secret (1 hr per pound) comes out perfect every time! Mashed potatoes, corn pudding, green bean casserole, and home made cranberry sauce are our sides.

This year changed the turkey feelings. Much like you, we did one for tradition but usually also had a prime rib or ham for the real meats. However, this year my brother did a Cajun turkey in his Traegar grill. Best turkey ever!! That was the consensus from a large Italian Texas family that takes food (and critiques) very seriously. Happy Thanksgiving to all the CCL family.

We don't like turkey either however a few years ago I did the thanksgiving bird (yes a turkey) on the pellet grill, injected, and fast cooked at 450º till the breast were 165º internal. It took less than 3 hours and was the best turkey method I have tried yet kinda became the standard around here

Hi you two ❤❤!!!! You're going to think I'm crazy, but the best thing about Thanksgiving is the day after 😊. Take all your leftovers, dice everything up, put it in a large frying pan or dutch oven mix everything together, turkey, potatoes, vegetables, dressing, sweet potatoes and lots of gravy. Heat it up and enjoy!! Sooo good.

The fringe on those cut-offs lights up easy and burns fast, ask me how I know! Mine were full length denim pants, frayed at the cuff, took the pant leg half way to my knee before I got it put out. My recommendation is protect those pretty legs, burn scars are ugly...

We do the Turkey, but we get fresh, never frozen Turkey to cook. I make the stuffing/dressing, which is probably my favorite side dish, mashed potatoes, candied yams, cranberry sauce, lima beans in butter, green bean casserole, and fresh baked rolls. That tape was a good idea. I love turkey on Thanksgiving and then the week of turkey sandwiches and turkey hash made from the last of the turkey, stuffing and gravy. My mama made the best turkey gravy. I can make it like she did but it isn't quite the same. Candied yams and Crack Green Beans (Google that recipe, it's awesome) are my favorite sides. One thing I really miss are my grandma's chocolate layer cake and red velvet cake. Both completely made from scratch. I hope y'all are having a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Well it's just another Thanksgiving just my wife and me along with our three very little fur babies.... She bought us a ham stake and made some mashed potatoes with some dressing. We spent the day just being lazy and talking about the many ways God has blessed us over our past 48 years of being together. Even through the hard times, God has been faithful and GOD PROMISES TO ALWAYS FAITHFUL NO MATTER WHAT UGLIES LIFE THROWS AT US!!!!!!!! God is so good ALL the time........ Love you kids, be blessed in Jesus name... BBE...

A very simple side dish is homemade cranberries. It’s called a cup, a cup and a bag= 1 cup orange juice, 1 cup maple syrup and 1 bag of the regular size bag of cranberries you see at most grocery stores (serves about 6 people and is very good). Bring it all to a boil and let the berries pop then simmer about 20 minutes and done! I really do like the turkey😊.

When we built our pole barn construction heavy equipment shop, we wrapped the bottom of the vertical posts in the same flashing tape. You are not kidding, VERY expensive!! We are in NY so our frost line is quite deep. We ended up having to use 1.5 rolls per 6x6 post to get everything protected to just past the top of the concrete. In case you weren't aware, concrete destroys wood, even treated wood, so we did this to get the longest life out of our DIY build. I make baked corn for Thanksgiving (I guess you could also call it a corn casserole). Unfortunately, I'm home sick today, so not only did I not cook, my husband and son went to the family dinner without me. I'm super sad 😞 Happy Thanksgiving too ya'll!!

We have a small family but she has to cook two turkeys so the family has left overs. I used to fry my turkey and it would turn out good but not as good as good as my daughter’s baked bird. We will have to but a couple extra because we like to have her turkey all year long. So happy thanksgiving to all of our Cajun family and keep up the good work. I love turkey drumsticks and that's the only part of the turkey. My family does not like turkey. This year all the grandkids requested the menu...... starting with Mimi's Gumbo, aunt Kim's Mac N Cheese. Also, Mimi's potato salad, cornbread, dressing and shrimp alfredo. Along with a few other sides. Yeah, it's a twisted up mess, but my grands are getting older and I cherish every moment with them and especially love that they feel comfortable asking for just what that want. We're also celebrating on Friday this year because of the social calendars. haha! Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving........... off I go to do all the cooking.

Great background music! I make great turkey not sure why this is a thing. Try spatchcock, then split in half. Smoke one half and slow cook crockpot the other half. Boil the neck, trimmings, and spine till you have a nice broth, add the crockpot juices. Strain the separated broth. Separate the fat and give to the pets with their kibble. Slice the turkey meat off both halves and return to crockpot with all the juices till time to serve. Its a winner winner turkey dinner, especially the dark meat.
