@@TherealDanielleNelson i did something like this a few years ago after the release of Legend of Zelda a link between worlds. In that game the main character gets the ability to essentially turn into a painting on a wall and switch between worlds through cracks in the walls. Well I was making a cake for my dad with whom I've always bonded over gaming together and the fondant on the cake ended up cracking. I busted out the gel food colours and painted the crack and the cake until it looked like that game. a cake with a steep learning curve but in the end I think it looked really cool

I have a mild almond allergy so I feel almost devastated whenever recipes say "add almonds" cause it feels like I will never be able to taste these delicious recipes, and in comes Ann to the rescue, saying to just use chocolate or something else that you can melt to the side or replace it with. This is why I love Ann, she understands some people are allergic and she will try her best to help us enjoy these delicious creations, it makes me feel included ^^

I'm not allergic, but I babysat a little boy for almost two years that we found out was allergic to a large number of things, particularly a mild nut allergy, a mild gluten allergy, and a dairy allergy. So the first thing that popped into my head when she said almonds was, "allergies!" and then she said that and you're right, that's what's great about Ann. She's always thinking through things like that.

Coconut flakes, chocolate chips, diced dried fruit, SPRINKLES! The possibilities for this fix are limitless. I recently had this EXACT thing happen where my caramel topping was too warm and melted the ganache on my cake. I ended up using crushed pretzels to hide the runny bit around the side. It looked beautiful and totally fit in with the salty-sweet theme of a chocolate peanut butter cake.

For my friend's daughter's 4th birthday, they did a Jake and the Neverland Pirates themed party. They ordered one of their pirate themed cakes and asked them to write something piratey on it(like ahoy, arrrgh etc).. My friend went to pick up the cake and they literally wrote "something piratey" ... You'd be surprised what people do.

The secret to piping character cakes is going slow, and using the right tips for the job. For skin color, I use dots, I don't attempt to go in lines. You can also use modeling chocolate for the skin! I can't really stand fondant, even if you flavor it. Star tips are great for that braided hair of hers. If all else fails, frozen buttercream transfer. Just make sure it's on WHITE buttercream! I've seen people try to put it on a dark color like purple or blue, and the whole design gets tinted/stained. Piping human characters is always tricky. What you showed is also a great solution!

About that “nothing” cake: I know some people that work in places that offer those types of message cakes, and apparently the people that make and decorate the cake and the people who write the messages aren’t always the same. They have blank cakes ready for when someone wants them, and will put the message on when someone asks. Since writing is usually less difficult than decorating, there is a possibility the writer will be much less skilled.
@mai_komagata
@mai_komagata 3 жыл бұрын
As someone who has ordered a lot of cakes with messages, this is absolutely how it works, blank cake, message added. That said, I don't think the message writer is unskilled in these cases, just too literal, and a game of phone tag was likely played between the teller taking the order and the decorator. It just seems unlikely that common sense would be this lacking sometimes.

For cakes like that, they literally hand you a sheet with a box where you write EXACTLY what you want written on the cake. And sometimes the "decorator" is untrained and/or doesn't speak English. So I could totally see some idiot writing "Happy Birthday Steve in purple" inside the box and then getting mad when they get exactly that written on their cake. Ok, I love this series. Here’s why 1: you don’t just say “oh, your cake went wrong, here’s a way to fix it next time”, you actually bother to remake the fail and fix it so people know what to do it they have that. 2: you don’t act really rude and condescending, being like “oh your cake is terrible! I can do it better!” You are really kind, you even say that yours is worse on the Elsa one. On your most recent one, you congratulated them for deciding to use raspberries. 3: the tips you give are really useful, easy to understand and I honestly wish that my cooking teacher showed me your videos to explain these things and why it happens (this is also something I love about your debunking series). You can just look at something where somebody says “why did this happen? What can I do to improve?” And be like “ok, this is what went wrong and this is why” (upsides of being a food scientist!) Love the channel Ann!
