I played little league baseball with Anthony and currently best friends with his cousin. My dad was the coach for our little league team and Anthony was one of the sweetest kids I knew. He was a shy little kid always wanting to learn from others and had great manors as a kid. It surprised me to hear what happened but I believe he deserves a second chance. He still looks the same! He has my support 100% we only get 1 life, most 14 yr old kids deserve another chance. Not everyone is raised in the right environment. That's one thing I've noticed with a lot of guys who have done multiple years in prison is they don't seem to mature mentally ..."In a lot of cases physically as well ".. they never get a chance to live a real adult life. They pretty much come out the same age. They grow up in a lot of aspects. I'm sure a lot of them do but without living a real adult life on the outside. You get out not even known how to be an adult.

Before they sentenced him, they should have taken into consideration that he was a minor and that it was his first major offense. We've seen it time and time again. Yet, there are others who give up once they are behind bars and fall into the same bad patterns they did on the outside that got them in trouble in the first place. We don't have the answers, but those who can remain positive and find a way to better themselves behind bars always seem to do much better once they're released. If he has a chance of parole and he has a clean record, no longer is evaluated as a threat to society, they sometimes do lower the sentencing overtime, however, if he was tried for murder, especially if it was premeditated murder where he lacked remorse afterwards, he would still get the punishment he originally got for murder. Parole is offered to those who genuinely make a certifiable transformation, but you can’t be tried for the same crime twice, that’s actually illegal. He can however spend his time in jail going after an appeal and many people do start studying law books in prison, so they learn if they’re able to and how.

I’m not saying that he shouldn’t be up for review. But I am saying there’s a legal way of doing this and we can’t just say what would make sense to us one. That’s actually illegal in for good reasons. You wouldn’t want someone who is declared innocent to go to trial again would you? An actual retrial would put the real victims families back in a stressful position and that would be wrong and stressful to anyone who’s had to go through a court case to put their loved ones murderer behind bars to think that there would be a possibility that they would have to go through the whole tedious process again, and again, and again, and again.

I can’t believe that this guy got a 60 year sentence at age 15. Then other adults who beat or shoot their spouse to death get charged with 2nd degree murder and get a 10 year sentence. Or less in some cases. I wish they would reduce his sentence. What a nice, intelligent young man.

This was heartbreaking. My dads murderer just came up for parole. The hearing was brutal. I hated his murderer for 20 years. For 20 years, I had this dark cloud following me until his parole hearing. His parole hearing I heard about his upbringing, his outlook in life. He killed my dad, a complete stranger, just because he was mad about life. I never thought I could forgive him... but I did. He did not get parole this time, but when he comes back up for it in 5 years, he will more than likely be paroled, and I will be ok with it. I hope this young man also gets a second chance. The person who killed my dad was also young. He is also doing things behind bars to better himself. Please keep us all updated.

Your words articulate what so many people struggle with when it comes to cases like this. There are always both sides, and both sides experience incredible pain, each for their own reasons. We have worked with a few victims' family members over the years and what we gained from those conversations will never leave us. Like you, several of the people we worked with said they were filled with hate for so many years that it nearly killed them. Like you, they somehow found a way to forgive. They told us that was when they finally learned to live again. We know that isn't possible for everyone, and we understand that, too. Again, thank you so very much for sharing your story. He murdered someone, but he deserves a 2nd chance? In accordance with God's Word, the penalty for murder is death,. I understand that most don't know His Word or agree with it, but that doesn't make the Word wrong. Considering that he didn't get a death sentence, he already received grace. With that said, I know there are others who were older, who did the same and were let out sooner, but that's an injustice. Letting him out would be another injustice. If God has changed his heart, and it appears such may have happened, then he is already getting a second chance. If his heart was changed and if he knows and confesses that Christ died for his sins, he'll not only get to experience that second chance at life, he will be enjoying far more than most people who never spend a single day in a jail cell on this side of life. What I'm saying isn't going to be popular amongst most people of the world, but it's true. This young man isn't dumb, despite the so-called IQ. Instead of showing any accountability, he deceitfully leads the listener into hearing what he wants them to hear, so that they'll gather that he was just some innocent kid who was taken advantage of and victimized. Some of that may be true, but he made a lot of wrongful choices on his own. In this day and age, where those who defend God's Word are ridiculed, and criminals are defended and rewarded, I would not be surprised at all if someone would tell me that he's going to be let out soon or is already out. I still need to finish the rest of this video and look up more details, as this is first time I've heard this story and I'm only at the 27 min mark of this video. Nonetheless, I'm still going to stick by saying that I'll lean on God's Word to guide me in the way I look at things.

I hope so too, but we can't tell if someone has a good heart that easily. I came from a family where 90% of the men on my mother's side are abusers, and it's not always easy to see it coming until it's too late. One of my late uncles got remarried and then we had to help his wife flee the country for fear of her life. It isn't immediately clear to everyone that family are abusive. Violent people don't always show their ugly side. I'm not saying this person is a bad person. I'm saying we don't know simply with an interview. If one interview was enough to tell if a person has a good heart, then nobody would have married my uncles. Sometimes, you don't know a person's true nature until after living with them for 2, 3, sometimes even 5 years.

A lot of women start dating a guy and he's super smooth and well spoken. Heck, sometimes they marry him, and only find out they are an abuser or even serial killer (and still actively killing) years later. It's almost impossible to judge someone based off a 1 hour interview. You have to live with them for years before you even catch a glimpse of the real deal. If it was so easy to judge people, then all these hundreds of thousands of women wouldn't marry abusers or get murdered by their partners. I believe people are too quick to judge. Not even my mom or my wife totally understands what I am, and I don't fully understand my mom or my wife. For example, I just found out last year that my dad doesn't like sweets, and I'm almost 40 years old. He never told me he doesn't like sweets, ever. You learn something new about someone even after 39 years. You definitely can't know everything important about a person in 1 hour.

Martin Anthony Villalon Jr., known to his friends and family as Anthony, is 19 years old. He resides in the Wabash Correctional Facility in Indiana - a prison well known for housing some incredibly violent and aggressive offenders. He was 15 when he was arrested in connection with the shooting of another teenager named John Shoulders. Though the DNA recovered from the crime scene did not match Anthony or the other person accused of the offense, he was subsequently convicted of murder and sentenced to 60 years. The prosecution’s case was based on eyewitness testimony. The other individual charged with committing the crime, Prevaun McDaniel, was acquitted in adult court. The case against both boys was equally as weak, but McDaniel’s defense attorney fought hard in the court room for his client. He meticulously debunked the prosecution’s cases, piece by piece. He discredited alleged witnesses who were admitted gang members and likely had nefarious motives for lying to police about the shooting. McDaniel’s attorney systematically answered every question the jury could possibly have about his client and as a result of this painstaking approach, McDaniel is free. Anthony was not nearly as fortunate. His attorney showed up to the trial, but he did not put on a defense that came close to rivaling that of McDaniel’s. In fact, a number of people waited in the halls of the courthouse to testify on Anthony’s behalf - including his grandmother, Cheryle. None of the people who could verify Anthony’s alibi, or speak to his character, were called to testify. Additionally, because these people anticipated they would testify, they were not allowed into the court room to observe the testimony of others. Cheryle was present at the trial of Prevaun McDaniel, however. She credits the avoidance of a wrongful conviction in McDaniel’s case to his attorney. “His lawyer fought like it was his kid on trial,” she explained to me. “He pounced on every lie, every conflicting testimony, every witness…every flaw was discussed. Every time the prosecutor came up with something the lawyer jumped on it and tore it apart.” She went on to explain that even though his attorney was working for free, “he fought like he was being paid very well.” The eyewitness testimony did not include anyone who observed the actual shooting. Instead, it consisted of a colorful array of characters. First there was Sergio “Outlaw” Rosa. Rosa admitted in court he was a gang member - belonging to the Latin Kings. In the prison doc on KZbin titled “prison dialogues” a man in that video was also asked what he missed most and he said “climbing a tree” very interesting that Anthony said touching a tree. But a actual tree especially a tree that is big and grown freely for many yrs. Is very rare in a prison yard or on grounds... and some prisoner's are 23 and 1 which means they are confined to a cell 23 hrs. A day get out one hr. For shower "recreation" or phone call....

Lmaoooo he literally took someone’s life….i don’t agree with the punishment either but he “deserves” life in prison….ask the persons family who he killed how kind and gentle he is, he does seem like a kid that made one bad decision, but that doesn’t excuse taking someone’s life, get a grip LISA, what if he killed your husband or son? Would you be willing to give him a second chance?

At 20 years old, I did 10 days in jail. Driving citations finally caught up with me. Hated every minute of it. Being locked up and having your freedom taken away was a terrible feeling. At 64 years old, I never returned to jail or prison, I learned my lesson.

I have complete faith he is a good guy who took advantage of every program available to rehab him. He should be very proud of all he’s achieved. I wish him well. I hope he gets an early release.

This young man’s story reminds me so much of mines. As a Los Angeles gang member stuck in the street wars started way before me and will probably be around way after I’m gone sucked me into the madness which would eventually lead to a Life Sentence here in California prisons. At 16 years old I was involved with a shooting that would get me a sentence of 45 years to Life. During the first few years of my sentence my criminal ways increased in custody with more violent behaviors with nothing being able to stop me. It took the Lord Jesus Christ to break me to my knee’s and after that encounter my life was never the same. Miracles after miracles started to take place and one of them was me being released when no Lifer was released. I came home in 2003 and have not looked back. I believe I was set free to be a light to the lost. My goal has been to help the troubled youth and the family to break away from the curse over my city of Los Angeles when it comes to gangs. I might not have helped thousands but I’m helping hundreds and that makes me feel good about my release. I pray that Anthony also gets a chance as I have had. 60 yrs for a child whos never been in trouble, wow.. I get he deserves his punishment.. But tell me how I have a friend who was a driver in a drive by here in Texas that ended a newborns life and he only served 25 yrs... And he was an adult with a record.. These laws truly needs to be re-writing. I hope someone in office / government sees this video and helps this guy.

You DO understand the difference very, very well. It's about intent. Your friend who killed that baby did not had the plan to kill that baby, or to kill anyone. The only "intent" you could say there was to that, is the: "He could or should have known that this or that ould happen", which is nowhere even CLOSE to PLANNING to kill someone. Now I do not know if you believe killing a baby is worse than killing an adult, but if you DO think so, you are in the wrong: murder is murder, age is 100% irrelevant.

I watch many docs, many crime channels, and investigations. I dont know why my heart felt drawn to Anthony and why I came on to see the comments, but the support for him is overwhelming. I can't imagine anyone killing one of my kids and then wanting to see their killer free, 😢 but I also can't imagine my child being in jail while looking at Anthony (one can relate as a parent on both sides), yes knowing the huge mistake he made and the devastation to another family and taking a life precious to God, But when one truly repents, how can we not forgive them when God forgives us? Truly repents. To turn around and not make the same mistake. Not one is perfect, yet no one deserves to die either.. God is the God of justice and he is the giver of life and death. He is author of all things we make make choices, they have consequences yes. We learn we grow. We heal. We forgive. Anthony seems so so humble, and he is accountable, and that is what shines through. Accountability is so important in life. Love covers a multitude of sins. Forgiveness releases ourselves not the other person, we should forgive ourselves too sometimes. Life is tough, abuse, addictions, maturity, pain loss and rejection can make us all handle things differently. I believe that God has a purpose and a plan and turns all thing's out together for our good for those who love him. Dont give up Anthony, God has forgiven you. Just be sincere always. Not a person in this world is exempt from being able to turn their life around. God can do all things. Prayers to the family who lost their loved one. May they know that God loves them and sees them and they too can overcome, in Jesus name. Anthony, in my spirit I feel hope for you. I pray for your release and I pray you wil take what God has given you and change the community where you grew up. Witness and testify in order to bring hope to those who battle in this life and give hope of forgiveness to the families who have suffered loss. You can be the change. @janine5540 yes, good point. I forgot about that. They just said it was 71 to try to get sympathy from the jury or make them think he didn't know what he was doing or something. Well hopefully he's changed. I would think that he has. He seems like a decent person now. Who knows. I know there's a huge debate whether children should get life. I really don't know what my opinion is. Does he have to do 2/3 of his sentence? I don't know the laws very well. But if so then I think he would get out at around 60 years old? Hopefully he rltruly regrets what he did and would never do somehlthing like that again and gets out and is a productive member of society. It's hard to say what someone will do when they get out.

The reality is that Anthony knows what he did and is proving to himself that he and know one else knows what is while heart feels . Humbled, responsible for his actions and still hoping for the time that he gets out of prison . That’s a true man right there. Wish I could see this kid in person and just hug the kid to tell him thank you for being himself. Life is a roller coaster in life we don’t think before we see our consequences. This young boy has see it first hand and is paying the price for his actions. No one better than Anthony deserves that second chance .
