So generous of you to share this John. Well described. Thanks for taking the time and effort to help potters who are more artists than scientists.

Hi from york uk. Yes, it was clear! I love how you changed your usual sign off. .''go make 1000 by tomorrow'' or whatever...to '' Just rest now...'' after all that mental strain of the umf. You're funny John. Love it

I'm a few years behind when you made this, but thank you! This is very helpful. I'm just getting started and have been relatively lucky with glazes so far, but I know that will run out eventually and I need to learn.

This is enlightening. I was wondering what the point was to do mole formulas vs. recipes until you got to the limits chart and then everything fell into place. Then you understand what you're doing when developing your own glazes. Thank you very much indeed.

Thanks John, I'm looking forward to tomorrow's video. Make 1000 of these and we will see you in the morning. ;-)

This is very clear, but I got lost in the math the first time. Now I have seen the film a few times and I think you did it! Great explanation. I am going on Glazy now to see if I can look at few glazes I have thinking about. Great day in the classroom at your school.

These videos are really great and informative! My professor is having my class watch them since the university switched to online classes

Fantastic stuff here! I finally had my Aha! moment while watching this; too many unbonded sodium (flux? still adapting to the terminology. I'm used to calling them catalysts). Perfecto, and just what I needed!

Thank you so much for that patient walk through converting from batch to UMF. Do you have another video for converting from Molecular formula to glaze recipe? I used to know how to do it, but haven't done it for over 20 years! Would be great to have a tutorial video, but if not, I guess I will just try to work this backwards, and convert to materials that have the least unknowns and variables....

Will try after I finish this series.

Is that chart the stull chart? And dose it only apply to cone 10 ? How would it look for cone 6 or 5?

If you are firing to a different temperature, the limits would change. But the method wouldn't. :-) Susan Peterson's Book, The Craft and Art of Clay, has a chart with the glaze limits for different temperature ranges. Very helpful.

Very helpful to see this explained, but goodness me , so fast!! will re draw up and see if I can actually do it alone tomorrow, I want to adapt some lead glazes to lead sesqisilicates.

Thanks John..Just want to know can we have Leach 4,3,2,1 for Cone 6
@johnbrittpottery2 жыл бұрын
You can try 40 nepheline syenite but usually need frit, lithium or zinc to melt that low. The 4,3,2,1 for cone 6 is the glaze 5 x 20.

Hello sir, I just wanted to ask, if it is possible to use UMF or the seger formulation in glass batching?
@johnbrittpottery Жыл бұрын
I am sure it is...go on Glazy.org...ask Derek Au who runs it...he will know.
@deanzelcabatu-an8957 Жыл бұрын
@@johnbrittpottery Thanks sir, I was just wondering because in our class we are tasked to formulate glass batching using Seger formulation and I was reluctant about the idea of it. Thanks for the reply Sir, and sharing your knowledge to us
