Everyone knows it's either gonna be Quinn Hughes or Cale Makar taking home the Norris Trophy this season, so I took a deep dive into both of their performance to see who ACTUALLY deserves it

Been watching your channel lately, I grew up in Vancouver and a massive Canucks fan since birth. I found it to be very interesting to find someone from the UK being a Canucks fan. I can’t believe a hockey team connects people all over the world.

I think Zach Werenski might genuinely have a shot too, what he has done this year and under the circumstances, has been nothing short of remarkable. Hughes is my favorite D and I'm a lifelong Canucks fan. I'd like to see Hughes get back to back Norris' too.

Life-long Avs fan: Cale Makar is, to me, a better player. But, Hughes is much more impactful for his team. And the question is, does that matter more? Quinn Hughes might be the most important player on the Canucks. It's a dead heat. And both guys would be deserving. I'm pulling for Makar. But Hughes is the guy I could see winning, and I'd be okay.

Only way we'd really know is by swapping them around. See if Makar could carry the Canucks and if Hughes became unreal or less important with the Avs. Great insight 👍

I think Makar is the more skilled player, but Hughes has more going on between his ears. He’s more creative and intelligent on the ice. I’d take Hughes, but it is very close.

To end the discussion, Colorado played 2 more games than Vancouver has and Quinn is only behind a point or so. If Quinn played the same anount of games, Quinn would be ahead by 3-4 points and there wouldn't even needs to be discussed.

As a Canadian that happens to be a Avs fan, and wants to say Makar is better. The fact of the matter is, I think Hughes is a bit better now. Both still great, but the edge goes to Hughes.

I do think the fact that Makar plays 2 min on the PK vs Hughes 9 seconds should be a bigger consideration. When defense is most needed Makar is most trusted where Hughes sits on the bench

Dont let this fool you. Quinn is an excellent defender. He doesnt penalty kill because hes so incredibly integral to the teams offense that the canucks cant afford him spending his icetime on the penalty kill. They generate basically nothing without out him.

This was a tweet that was going around but it's pretty misguided in my opinion. Penalty kill units are not typically designed to include the top defensemen - they're supposed to be depth units. The fact Makar plays so many minutes on the PK isn't a comment on his superiority to Hughes; it's a comment on the Avs' unique (and arguably questionable) choices on how to compile their special teams. Even if that weren't a consideration, Makar's PK stats aren't great. So it's kind of redundant anyway.

I think he's going to be the GOAT of defensemen. The one thing that should give Makar the edge is that he's helping his team to make & play in the playoffs where Hughes season is over. I actually predict the Jets or Avs to win the cup this year.
