I appreciate your patience with this rascal of a horse. I must admit i was giggling throughout this video, not necessarily at you, but to the horse, talk about having his own mind. I am quite sure he knows what he is doing, and loves it.. I love it! :) Good work, you kept his feet happy even though he is a pain to you! Thank you for sharing!

I marvel at the work you farriers do. The horses that have been exercised first seem to give the least amount of trouble. After watching a farrier work I wonder if there is a nice hot tub waiting for you...makes my back ache just watching these videos. BTW...good job with a difficult horse.🤗

This is me and my daughters horse. Mine is such a prick! My daughter passed away from cancer at 16. We bought him as a 2 year old, he's now 19. He was owned by all men, 4 owners before us! My daughter through her treatments, and an allograph trained our horse alongside a very well known trainer. He is so f'n light, leg and seat, side steps, and my daughter jumped him in a bosal. Son of a bitch prick knows better. Thank God mine isn't shod, he's got very nice feet. Sorry but he drives me crazy and yep, exhausting!

Horses and kids. It seems that we only remember the two extremes of behavior. I have heard of “sure-fire” cures for this type of behavior. A long piece of duct tape stuck to the nose as a distraction, to my best friend’s uncle biting the end of a mule’s ear off to make it stand for shoeing. That was before Mike Tyson was born.

Geez, what a tiring video to watch!! And I just got to the barn and am waiting for my farrier to arrive for my 2 four year olds. They are due for a trim, and 1 needs shoes put on as he's getting foot sore, even just doing groundwork in the arena. He has very little sole depth to him. So shoes for him for sure. The other one is doing great and has tons of hoof. I hope you have a great weekend, Caleb!! Best Regards from your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖🇨🇦🇺🇲

If this horse has trouble standing while you shoe him, maybe it's because it is uncomfortable for him, maybe he has a sore back or an arthritic joint. Has he been seen by a vet or a body worker? Horses do this for a reason and not just because they are being "bad". Give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe put his foot down more often, you are holding it for quite a long time.

I have a big TB mare who I barefoot trim. She is very difficult, I mean very difficult for my little 5’4”, 110 lb self. After years of studying equine behavior, I’ve learned thee is no such thing as a jerk horse, a bad horse, there’s only a horse speaking in the only language he knows….behavior. So, I used a positive reinforcement training method to help my painful mare be able to accept the hard part of standing on three legs long enough to let me trim and balance the foot!! It’s taken some time, but the end result is less time, less stress, for us both. I click and treat frequently when my mare offers a good position, and I might click and reward that effort 1000 times in the course of a trim, in order to reinforce the positive aspects of a difficult, even painful task.

What I do to let them know that they are being jerks is put a chin chain on and through the halter run a small rope back to my elbo so I can let them know they are goofing up at the exact second.
