I watched David Woolson’s shoe guide and he mentions that the sabo deadlift pros have a slight heel arch that throws him off in the sumo deadlift. Initially that was a major turn off for me but it seems like you have no issues regarding the heel of the shoe. Did you notice the same issue and if so was it very noticeable ?

I am a 156 pound male, age 76, and I'm not an expert on weight lifting or its related equipment. I have cervical spinal stenosis and, just over 2 years ago, I began doing deadlifts 1 day a week using a pair of Reebok's with the flattest sole I could find. Since my 1st deadlift was only 65 pounds, there was no problem. I lifted with the Olympic bar until I reached 230 pounds and then my trainer and I decided to switch to the hex bar. My deadlifts are now up to 365 pounds, with 2 sessions per week, and I sometimes experienced a mild balance issue while doing multiple reps at the heavier weights (300+). I watched your review (thanks for mentioning your personal balance issue) and then purchased the SABO Deadlift Pro from MAXbarbell. I really like these shoes! Once my feet are placed where I want them, the shoes provide total stability for my lift with no slippage or balance issues. It almost feels like my feet are pushing INTO the floor. Although I'm not an authority on deadlift shoes, that is what the SABO Deadlift Pro shoes have done for me and it is exactly what I was wanting. I'm now really looking forward to increasing the weight of my lifts!

This review is perfect: (a) you actually use the shoes, (b) you started the review within 10-20 seconds, (c) there was fancy eye-distracting editing that was pleasant, but didn't get in the way of the actual review, and (d) you have a frank and honest approach. Also - thank you for not "reviewing" the opening of the box. Seriously - who cares about the box and the packaging of a thing?

Thanks for the video. I pull in Chuck Taylors. They seem to do just fine, so I’m not set on getting something else while they are still in working order. David Woolson of Brazos Valley Barbell made a video recently on this and he said he thought they did have an effective heel. As has Candito. Yet Sabo say they do not. And I guess you're saying the same?

According to sabo there is a slight heel that is made to compress under the weight of your heel, creating a flat shoe.

Candito and David Woolson have been critiquing that this shoe has a 'thick' sole, outweighing its pros which includes build and durability, making it a good squat shoe but not a deadlift shoe. What do you think?
@calgarybarbell4 жыл бұрын
I actually spoke to Candito about this the other day. I disagree, but obviously there hasn’t been an effective way to prove either side. I’m going to reach out and see if I can get a one off shoe to deconstruct and settle the debate ahah
