Amazing illustration, and you pointed out a lot of concern I have with my brake. Thanks 🎉 (it's a FJ Edward's BESCO TRUEFOLD )

I have a commet, fyi you have helped me understand quite alot about these 10' brake i have a tennsmith 10' brake (as well as 2 hydraulic brakes) but I use the manual brake more often and my question is when I bend a 10' piece of metal, regardless of the thickness (mostly 24,20 and 22ga in steels and .032,.040 and .050 aluminum s)i get the ends bending to a 90° but the middle is somewhere around a 80° to 85°. How can I readjust the brake in order for it to bend a constant 90°?

Check to make sure the brake is not sprung: ie, when you raise the bending leaf to 90 degrees, the line of sight gap down should be the same all the way across, 1/16" or so. If it's 3/16", or worse in the middle when the ends are 1/16", the bending leaf is sprung and not much can be done. Sometimes the problem is the clamping pressure is too much, or the 3 truss nuts are not adjusted correctly, so loosen them all off and see what moves over a couple of days. Also, make sure the brake is level in both directions and not twisted in any way. Hope that helps

*sprung refers to the front leaf being deformed in a dimension that is not correctable by the leaf truss nut*

No I completely understood what you meant. All I ended up doing was loseing the three nuts in the middle and it instantly started bending stright. I've been waiting for almost a month before posting again about the results but its been staying stright all this time but I appreciate everything and thanks bro.

Hi Great video do you know how to convert that finger brake to hydraulic or air instead of manual? please let me know Thank you God bless you

The brake in the video is not a finger brake, and converting it to hydraulic or air control is outside the scope of this video

Hi Brad, I just got a new to me break and I'm having trouble balancing the counterweights and putting the stop bar back in. I'd love some advice on how to do this alone. It's a Tennsmith HB97-16

Unfortunately I don't have experience with that brake.

Lol I have the same one. For me I loosen the two bolts the the counterweights as I hold the bar between the weights and where the bolts are with my under my arm area (keeping most the weight on my arm) after loosening the second bolt I spin the counterweight as so its sitting just past the opening forward of the upper and lower leafs where the metal gets slid in. Then tighten it down and push on it to see how fast or slow it comes back. You want a medium swing back without it slamming back up or slowly coming or stopping just before where it is supposed to be. Hope this helps you.

As for the heavy angle bar for bending heavier metals I place the bar just under where its bolted to the lower leaf and pick up on one end go in about half way just before the middle on the side your lifting on and insert a bolt and finger tighten then simply lift the other side and finish putting in the bolts. Just be aware that there's only one bolt at first so lift the opposite side stright and smoothly as not to twist and break the first bolt and it possibly letting that heavy bar fall on your foot. Good luck and happy bending my brother!

Your comment was a year ago so hopefully you got it set up now, but we do travel if needed
