Honestly, I would like to see more videos of the build projects of HSR. Also, I would like the CA HSR Website wouldn't use a private video producer like Drone Zone Flyover? I'm picking a specific video producer, because his videos were very good and appeared every two to three days, making binging on KZbin very much a good day. Also, the CA HSR website only shows projects once they're completed, but they don't show any in progress videos!

One of the hardest things with CAHSR is finding detailed maps of the alignment. When you were using Sentinel you were toggeling between satellite and map views. Is that correct and with a map view in Sentinel we can see a more detailed alignment indicated? Or was the map view in another website.
@AmpereBEEP Жыл бұрын
Sentinel2 shows the OpenStreetMap view until the Satellite view loads in. So zooming in and out or panning around allows you to check where you are exactly on the map.

One of the difficulties for the layperson to have clarity about progress is that the buildhsr site doesn't provide a % of progress with civil works which is common in many large rail projects worldwide. A monthly progress update both for each construction package & for each major structure/site. Eg Tulare St could be updated at 45.73% progress & Wasco viaduct at 87.28% progress. That sort of transparency on the site would help all to clearly see construction progress.
@TohaBgood2 Жыл бұрын
They do something like that verbally during their board meetings. Maybe the community can just create our own progress scorecard website based on those reports?
@brucemcdanel4933 Жыл бұрын
Not sure we can get progress numbers from meetings. During July meeting, commissioners asked for separate numbers of completed vs under construction projects. The presenter supposedly made a note. But the numbers were still combined in August F&A meeting. Commissioners again asked for separate numbers.

An idea for a future video, you should do a collab with Lucid Stew after the CAHSR 2024 Business Plan is released, talking about the plan and offering your insights. Talk about where the project stands now (2024) and what you believe it'll require to keep going (beyond just more funding). Lucid Stew does good analysis on the latest figures from CAHSR, and based on them gives his insight on where the project stands. He's no optimist, but he's not totally cynical either. I'm not sure where exactly you stand on the project's SF-LA prospects, but his stance is pretty much it'll take nothing short of a miracle at this point to get CAHSR to LA, and possibly beyond the Central Valley anytime in the foreseeable future. It would be interesting to get your similar and/or differing perspectives.

Lol, the first segment is finishing guideway construction literally right now as you can see from the sat images in the video. The other two segments that are under construction in the Central Valley are at about 80% completion and will be fully complete by 2026. The Peninsula section in the Bay Area is already testing electric trains and will have them in regular operation by next year. You lost. You lot failed to cancel this project with your lawsuits and delays. Take the L. You've earned it.
@RR98guy Жыл бұрын
I am not at all opposed to the HSR. I live in Eastern Europe so I have no reason to wish the project to die. We love HSR here in Europe where we have it it is amazing. But knowing how California and the USA are I am also a realist.@@TohaBgood2
@TohaBgood2 Жыл бұрын
@@RR98guy You're also pumped full of negative propaganda from both the left and the right in Europe about the US. The right says that we are inefficient wokesters and the left says that we're the second coming of Hitler. Both views are fundamentally wrong and more a projection of your own local realities than an accurate representation of the US. I've lived in Eastern Europe for a while. Rather, I spent a few summers there when I was a kid and later worked for a company with an office there requiring visits about once per month. I still occasionally visit cousins for weddings in the region. I know how opaque the US can be when viewed from there. I assure you that this is just a case when the propaganda has gotten the best of you. The view that this project is "stalled," or "dying", or "won't complete until 2040" is precisely what our local anti-CAHSR propaganda has been trying to promote in order to stop this project and build a highway instead. This is a referendum-approved project so the only way to cancel it is via turning the public in California against it. So far they have completely failed at this. All the early land lawsuits that they used to delay the project so that that 2040 date looks at all plausible were summarily been defeated. And there were hundreds of them in addition to thousands of local regulatory hurdles that they engineered. All of that failed, believe it or not. The project is more popular within the state than it was when we passed the referendum. All that they achieved is that now we are angrier at the Republican obstructionists than we ever were, and there is a lot of support to pass punitive legislation against this kind of regulatory terrorism. The reality that you can see in the video is that CAHSR has overcome the original opposition and has learned how to deal with it in the future. With the opposition defanged they have been making steady and accelerating progress for almost five years. Now the project is moving at a pretty good clip and still accelerating construction, completing segments left and right. The first section, CP4, as you can see is 99% complete and waiting for *one* agricultural canal to be moved. That's it. The other two sections are approaching 80% completion and will be done by 2026. Two more extensions are in pre-construction after being announced in 2019. If you're not an anti-rail troll then this evidence would lead you to conclude that you have been fed propaganda about this project.
@TohaBgood2 Жыл бұрын
@@RR98guy Oh and, this project is part of a statewide HSR system that will cover 9 out of 10 of the largest metros in the state. It will likely never finish construction just like the Shinkansen, the French TGV, the HSR system in Spain, etc. are continuing to add lines. It's just that we already know exactly what lines we will build over the next several decades. This will only accelerate progress as CAHSR is hitting its stride. That is, they are doing preparatory pre-construction work now that will make future construction dramatically faster.
@dr.emilschaffhausen4683 Жыл бұрын

Looking at the satellite views which are flat it is remarkable to see the terrain so similar to the Laurentide ice sheet bulldozing of many mid western states! The low population gatherings also are very similar to rural mid western states. The main attribute of railroads is how they conquer changes in terrain which is lost from this over head view. The statement that the Central Valley doesn't have bed rock with sediment down to 4000 feet is very interesting. The whole idea of putting high speed rail though a very rural area seems absurd with no major populations areas to connect. Although the main objective of connecting major population centers in later stages might make the routing prosperous these surrounding are greatly agricultural with little hope for real estate high value. California might have done better to have high speed motorways without speed limits.
@TohaBgood2 Жыл бұрын
You're kidding, right? 4.3 million people live just in the metro areas in the Valley with a stop on the early operating segment. 6.5 million live in the Central Valley overall. The Central Valley is larger than 2/3 of US states! Oh, and both Fresno and Bakersfield have metro areas of about 1 million. Either would be the largest city in most US states. Half a million live in the Visalia metro area. And Merced, which will have a timed cross-platform transfer station to Bay and Sac trains, has 250k more and a rapidly growing University of California campus. Oh, and btw San Francisco has a smaller population than both the Fresno metro and the Bakersfield metro. So think what you are advocating for when you say that SF deserves a separate station but Fresno doesn't! San Jose is about the same size as Fresno, yet it too gets its separate station. How come? I don't understand why people are so bad at California geography. We make half of your food, ship 70% of the crap that you buy from China, most of your entertainment, and all of your tech. Learn more than two city names in California! There are other metro areas in the state outside of SF and LA! And, shocker, most Californians live there rather than in the two that you know the name of!
@JackKack-kk5dd Жыл бұрын
@@TohaBgood2You can make an argument for HSR without these silly points. SF only has a lower pop than Fresno or Bakersfield because of arbitrary city limits, which just connect to other cities. The Bay Area has a much larger pop and would be the comparison to make. And don't even get me started on your other points.
@TohaBgood2 Жыл бұрын
@@JackKack-kk5dd We're not talking about cities or metro areas. We're talking about stops. There already is a stop in San Jose so the question is why SF deserves another stop while an area with a similar amount of people per stop doesn't. We're talking concrete station locations and the number of people that it will serve. If you have multiple stops per area then people will use the closest stop to them.
