Thank you for letting us know that her mind was the largest part of her success! I admire her even more. Now I understand part of why she became an icon: she controlled her image through producing, directing, and scriptwriting as well as acting. And she did it at a time when women had fewer rights. Even now, it is *extremely* rare for an actor to do all four at her level of success. I had wondered how she had the opportunity to be so consistent, and appreciate the education.

Thanks for this video compilation. As it turns out, my mother's favorite actor was Cary Grant, so I knew that he was the recipient of Mae's "Come up and see me" line. This is one of my favorite Mae quotes: "Ten men waiting for me at the door? Send one of them home; I'm tired." I don't know where it came from. Though her quotes were considered risque at her time, Mae got laughs from them--she's getting them from me!

The singer Elisabeth Welch told me that she met Mae West in London in 1948. She said: 'Miss West was not brash, but so gentle you could hardly hear her talk. I admired the enormous topaz jewels she was wearing: matching necklace, earrings, bracelet & ring. Miss West explained seriously that this was merely her "summer jewellery." I wanted to laugh, but she was so sweet that I couldn't.'

@@mello6176 ....doesn't make us uncultured..... Exhibit A @Morgan Olfursson How old are you wtf, just because we enjoy watching a show doesn't make us uncultured. Get a life and stop hating on people for enjoying drag. Its homophobic, really. You're funny. The world economy is crushing, the planet is in the same situation as it was during world war 2, thousands of people are dying every hour (and you might be next) and all you do is come talk about drag and call a gay man, homophobic. Yes, you are the very definition of a cultured person ! Really .
@mello61764 жыл бұрын
@@morganolfursson2560 Bruh what is a cultured person. We know about that stuff and that isn't even what it's about. That is like calling you uncultured for fighting for Mae West instead of talking about global warming that doesn't even make sense. Where did that come from? And if you're referring to yourself as a gay man then why are you bashing other gay men for doing what they please, by calling them stupid drag queens, etc that makes you homophobic.

Mae West was actually cited as the reason the board of censorship in films was formed. So she turned to innuendo instead!
