All super great methods! I am shocked you haven't turned your fence into a trellis yet though! Every time I look at that I am just saying to myself, "boy if I had a fence like that it would be filled in no time!!!".

Hey Luke, vertical gardening is such great way to save space, isn't it? It's probably hard to tell the lay of the land from my videos, but I do actually have two of the cattle panel arch trellis's along most of my back fence. The side fences are on a steep hill, one of which has a stairway leading down to the garden, the other fence is lined with wildflowers. We do have some fence space left along the back, which we have been saving for a few video series that we are doing in late summer, early fall, so stay tuned for those! Thanks for watching!

Really puts into perspective the possibilities of different trellises! :) Great video! we use string for our tomatoes attached to our greenhouse, wire for peas and wooden structures for our cucumbers. keep up with the amazing videos!

Great growing vertically. Saves me so much space. Just got done 'twigging' my sugar snap peas that have just emerged from the soil. Thanks for inspiring others, Kim.

Great ideas Kim. I use a netting with my raised beds it's integrated with the gronomics cedar beds. But for container cukes I should use the cages.

Thanks to you lovely lady ! you gave me the idea to make an arch for my clematis , out of the big wire mesh stuff, left over in the yard. Any way , its up tall around 8ft tall and goes from the pear tree , clematis x2 at the base across to the honeysuckle and climbing rose , oooo i cant wit to see it , not bad for a 70 old !! thank you xxxx

some super ideas there. i use chicken fencing for cukes and some other climbing vines. it is cheap and will hold up cantaloupes even. for tomatoes i make trellises from electrical conduit. 1/2 inch emt for the framing and use nylon string for the webbing. i space the lines about a foot apart with both horizontal and vertical runs of string and my frames are about 8 foot tall after sticking the ends in the ground. the emt is cheap and will last for many years. all you have to do is restring every year.

I actually made 2 this year after watching your previous episode and absolutely love it. Made it from left over fence owners had on the side of the dog house when I bought my house several years ago. I secured each with a 6' garden stake. My cost? Less than $5! Thanks for the idea!

Hello - glad you like the video. I do have a video on how to stake tomatoes, kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYLPiHqIj62Bo5o. And yes, tomatoes certainly can grow big with stakes. It actually takes a bit more maintenance to stake, you have to tie them up every few days as they grow. But it's great way to save space if you don't have room for a cage. Let me know how it goes - thanks for watching!

Did you have to make slings for the butternut squash that were hanging from the trellis? I saw you did a video making slings for the hanging watermelons and a butternut squash but would they be able to support themselves?
