Some of the people in these comments seem to have forgotten that the fates told him that he would get one answer for each question, so if he tried to be clever and ask a broad question to find all three items at once, then he would have gotten an even more broad singular answer (like if he asked where his stolen items were, then he probably would have gotten the answer that they were strewn across dimensions, not telling that they were specifically between the mortal realm and hell, because that would be two answers to the singular question. If he asked who held his stolen items, then he probably would have gotten an answer along the lines of “beings of power” referring to a duke of hell, a magician, and John Dee who was currently using the Ruby’s power, but they couldn’t have given him specifics without breaking the rule of one answer per question)

Speaking of that, I remember overhearing my sister some months ago talking about a new Netflix show coming out from Neil Gaiman, and she was excited about the casting of Jenna Coleman as Constantine (which piqued my interest- I’ve loved 2005 Constantine since I was a kid). I asked who else was in it. She goes « Charles Dance, Gwedonline Christie as Lucifer, mark hamill, and the lead character Morpheus is Tom sturridge? » I went from half listening to standing straight up. 3 years ago, I went to see a play at the Hudson theatre in NYC with my friend. It was called Seawall / A Life, and it was a 2 act production, each act was 1 actor, 1 40 minute unbroken monologue. I was interested because Jake Gyllenhaal starred in the second act. I followed the play’s social media for MONTHS leading up to it. Jake was the second act. The first, was a stage actor who I didn’t know. His name was Tom Sturridge. I read the playbill, saw he was acclaimed in theatre, with some hefty award nominations, one including a tony (the play I was at would soon grant him a second), but he wasn’t it any movies I had really seen besides Velvet Buzzsaw. So he walked on stage, and the lights went, and he began talking. Ive seen countless productions of musicals and plays and one acts- ive been a theatre kid since I was 11. But, I have *never*- not once- cried at the theatre. SeaWall / A Life was the first to ever do it. I wept in the first act, and bawled in the second. But it was Tom Sturridge who made me cry for the first time. His name stayed in my mind, his words, the wonder filled o shaped mouth, the smile laden grief, the half empty beer bottle on the ledge, his animated gestures, the long silences between words. I never really watched his movies, they were a niche kind of indie not up my alley, and he had no social media for me to keep up with. (Only thing I knew was that he was roommates with Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield, Charlie Cox, Jamie Dornan, and Eddie Redmayne in the 2000s. The British line of acting success). So I heard that name, after 3 years. 3 fucking years. And i saw him in my mind immediately, and I went « not TOM STURRIDGE as in seawall a life play TOM STURRIDGE? » and by fucking god it was him. My surprise was genuine, and my half hearted interest leaped into devotion into seeing this show. Because of life, I wasn’t able to watch it till September, but fucking GOD did the entire thing make me smile and so pleased and proud because yes, this is the Tom sturridge I saw on stage, the one who made me cry, whose gentle flurrying voice carried me through a story of grief, the voice that could seamlessly go through pitch and volume in a way that MADE the scene. And here he was with this low, commanding, otherworldly voice, dappled with moments of airy wonder. He played Dream to an incredible degree of extraordinary I could only ever expect from him. I knew he would shine, and I have never been happier to see everyone else see it too. He’s in mainstream now. (Well, almost. Sandman is still a little on the nicher side, if only slightly). And I cannot WAIT to see what other projects it’ll lead him too.

The comics/tv show are based on Greek Mythology, but it's not the actual one. Hecate and Fates are different deities. Hecate is associated with crossroads truly, and granted powers by Zeus in every realm. Fates are those who know past, present and future.

@@רוןגורליק-ה5ע Hecate according to greek mythology was the daughter of the Titans Persis & Asteria while the Fates are daughters of either the Night or of Zeus & Need and their names are Klotho, Lahesis and Atropos. So it is not a good adaptation of greek mythology.

I thought the first answer was the worst. He asked a specific question- the location of his bag of sand. The Hecate told him what happened to it initially, but did not answer the question asked, where it is now, even in an indirect way.

@@whocares8576 I understand a vague answer if the question had been imprecise or was only implied. But the question was very specific. It would be a different thing if Dream had asked “what happened to my bag of sand”. Yeah, I know that the Hecate have a reputation of mystery to uphold. But riddles have rules that even such as they must honor.

"passed down from a mother to a son" is more helpful than it sounds. "The woman who lives with me has gone and robbed me of my fortune. She's also robbed you. She's taken your helm, your sand and your ruby." If you assume the riddle is _intended_ to be solvable, it's not much of a leap to suppose the mother is the woman who stole them.
