Call of Duty World at War PS2 vs PS3 Graphics Comparison

Call of Duty World at War Final Fronts was the last CoD game released for PlayStation 2 console. It was made by Rebellion and is pretty much different than PS3 version in terms of campaign mode Even if both games has unique storyline they still are quite similar. Let's compare some scenes and see how massive graphical gap is between these two.

A bit of context for my personal story : my last PS2 game happened to be this one. Also, my first PS3 game a little bit after. It shook me. I was terrified by the quality of the horror depicted in screen, I vividly remember seeing members being ripped off and loads of blood in the PS3 version. I think to this day, it's still one of the darkest Cod games. Don't even get me started on zombies.

The fact that something like that runs on the PS2 it's impressive for itself. The graphics, for example, they lack specular maps, shaders; sure, yet the conversion to low-poly manages to look good for a PS2. The gun reloads also look nice animation-wise. Seems like a decent port for me. Now compare that to Black Ops 3 on the PS3. They didn't even try, not even in sound quality.

Kind of like how they didn't make COD4MW on the PS2 and the original xbox. I beat COD 3 on the PS2 and the game reminds you that it's water-downed by showing you cutscenes that are from the PS3/360 version.

I think it was because of the engine and budget the big red one was made in the idtech3 engine while the waw ff was made in the asura engine the same engine of black hawk down ps2 and sniper elite and maybe treyarch have a lot of money to make the game while rebellion not maybe because the new generation of consoles what i think is i like the ps2 version of course the pacific missions is not so good only in the end of game but the british wich is not on normal waw and the american europe missions is great

The thing that separates the two though is that Final Front followed the path of the 5th Marine Division who landed on guadalcanal, Tarawa (no ingame mission), Tinian (the beach assault in this video), Saipan, Iwo Jima (no ingame mission), and Okinawa. Also followed a platoon of American soldiers who fought alongside Patton during the battle of the Bulge as a side campaign. World at War followed the 1st Marine division who landed on Guadalcanal, the Marshall Islands (no ingame mission), The Philippines (no ingame mission), Peleliu, and Okinawa. Followed the Russians during their war as a side campaign.

That wont happen. Ever. We're already at a point where some games look basically photorealistic. All thats left to do now is to add even more details, better lighting etc. Early 2000's to early 2010's was and will be the biggest graphical leap in video games ever.
