The central theme of the adult plotline is trauma & it’s impact so Callie being a way to explore generational trauma would make sense. The wilderness is in her & always was simply because its in Shauna. And the wilderness is in Shauna regardless if that means it’s supernatural or just them.

Sarah Desjardins (Callie) is amazing. In season one, her acting abilities weren't really showcased that much, since she was kind of a one-note character - your stereotypical bratty teenage girl. With her character expanding this season, we can see how skilled an actress she is. Hopefully, Callie will continue to progress as a character in future seasons. I see her as kind of a partner in crime with Shauna, with nice doofus Jeff as a third banana.

Another great video! Thank you! My favorite part of the finale: Present day Lottie, preparing for the hunt, standing in her room, resplendent in her glowing and flowing robes, eyes closed, pulsing with intuition. Lottie never lost her intuitive power. She knew what all of them arriving would mean and she also knew Van was sick. On a side note, when Lottie looked into her armoire and saw that the lock was broken, she smiled softly; I think she knew that Misty had taken the syringe and would ultimately use it on Nat. She didn't let Nat kill herself because she didn't want her to die in so much pain. She brought her to the compound so that she could find some kind of peace before she died, which she did. Ultimately, she found that she would never be able to forgive herself for what happened with Javi (Nat to Lisa: "Forgiveness is a nice idea"). So I think Lottie knew that Nat would pass and wanted to give her comfort. I think she also knew that if she kidnapped Nat that the rest would arrive and Nat's death would have meaning for all of them. Lottie was clearly impressed by Callie. This could be a development for S3.

I think Misty’s syringe had fentanyl in it since it was the same syringe she had packed when she got there. She’s used it before and it explains the “apparent drug overdose”
@FeyFire Жыл бұрын
It's possible; but they haven't mentioned fentanyl at all in season 2 - most likely because of the real life epidemic. "Apparent drug overdose" would still be appropriate for a Phenobarbital OD, and has been the drug of choice in s2.

@@FeyFire I think that as we have previously seen Misty use a syringe full of fentanyl in S1 to kill someone, that it is inferred that is what was in this syringe. Y'all. Phenobarbital is a controlled substance. Lottie literally uses it to k*ll animals; she threatened to k*ll herself with it; and immediately after Walter and Misty were together in her office - her purse NOT shown - Walter k*lls Kevyn WITH PHENO. It's been shown repeatedly throughout s2, while fentanyl hasn't been mentioned one time. It still counts as a drug OD; the officers clearly weren't distinguishing one controlled substance from another controlled substance at that moment. The women were allowing Nat's death to assume false implications in order to protect themselves. We'll see what happens when Nat's tox report comes back in s3. (There is a fentanyl epidemic happening in the US currently, if you guys weren't aware; which is very likely why they are not focusing on it specifically. It's too hot a topic.)

I know it’s unpopular at this point, but I still believe that Lottie is the one wearing the antlers at the ceremony. Being a leader and an oracle are not one in the same. I think that Callie is the one taking nat’s place as queen. It feels to me like the moment Lottie acknowledges Callie’s power, the favor of the wilderness shifts from nat to her. After all a fee moments later nat dies. This process of nat turning from the wilderness, as you said, has been taking place throughout the season. So maybe her death served as a ritual of coronation, and the passing of the metaphorical torch (the trauma) to Callie, to a new generation. If I remember, the scene that overlapped with Callie shooting Lottie was the girls swearing fielty to nat. If that is the case, I think it supports this theory. I also think the wilderness chooses Callie because of how the other young girl was touched by it and rejected it, through both showing forgiveness to nat and not ever actually shooting. I mean, it is still likely that there is no paranormal “wilderness”. But this theory makes sense to me in a narrative sense.
@FeyFire Жыл бұрын
I really like this, especially because Callie came out with g*ns blazing. I really feel the reason the Wilderness loved Natalie best was because she was the huntress; her willingness to take a life to provide nourishment to the group set her apart. Callie was ready to protect her mother at any cost, no questions asked, so there's a similar fierce selflessness in both of them. Shauna, on the other hand, doesn't really do anything selfless at all, ever. Now my wheels are turning!

@@FeyFire also, I do agree with your point about nat being the original hunter of the group and thus respected by the wilderness. I am also excited and scared to see what nat does to survive and back up her title as leader. It seems that she struggled the hardest, from what we have seen, with coping with her experiences. Not that the others have not. However every other adult has managed to thrive in some way in their adult life in society, or at least be distracted for some amount of time from their trauma. Taisha being in what seemed to be a healthy romantic and parental relationship while also becoming the governor. Shauna being a mother and a housewife, Lottie not believing in the wilderness for a time and becoming a cult leader. Even Misty, who seems at home in her borderline tendencies which existed even before the crash. Nat seems to have spent all her years in a self-sabotaging, suicidal, drug fueled state. She never got the chance to turn away from the past like the others did. Even though their actions were always influenced by their trauma in some way.

@spyrosgkoumas5339 I feel like I've been the only one to notice that. To me it shows Natalie never lost her humanity, she suffered the most because of it. Before the wilderness Shauna had issues and growing resentment being Jackie's doll. I think she wanted to hurt someone before the crash. Taissa already had mental trauma from the man with no eyes plus the only times we see her being an active aggressor or cause of violence she's her 'other' self. Misty had issues before the crash and is desperate to be accepted or belong. Van drank the wilderness Kool aide, she's got that fanatic vibe going. Everyone else as adults are in comparison coping well to Nat because they can say "that wasn't me" "it's what the wilderness wants" "we have to live" etc. Natalie acknowledges it was her decisions and can't bury it the way the others can so she uses drugs.

I say it's on Misty's white and purple jacket she got from the cult. Gun toting Callie is wearing a Very similar pattern jacket, and Tai has a patterned flannel shirt on underneath her brown jacket. Maybe easter eggs, maybe not, 😊

One thing I can see is that in both final moments the characters are side by side, like a visual Ying-yang symbol where "Crystal" represents the light and Misty the dark. Perhaps the scene with Misty and Nat was supposed to reinforce the idea of Nat's spiritual transformation, confirming she is the Light before the end. I am starting to feel really convinced that Lisa is Lottie's sister, or daughter (by Travis?, more later). If you look at their mothers, Lisa's mother looks like the older version of Lottie's. Why are there all moving boxes or (Plyushkin's disorder?) Lottie's commitment in Switzerland cost a fortune, maybe the father took his life or is dead now, and this is now the mom, humble home (no dad there), clutter, yet you can still see the way she carries herself, very proper and elegant....it think they are family....for sure these 3. Lottie seems to be traning Lisa for something, maybe she wants her to run the facilty one day or wants her to be the next queen bee (she seemed the only one allowed to interact with Nat, she also encourages her to return the violence if necesary, although instead the 2 bond....then: enter Callie and Lisa....posible rivals? Daughters of the wilderness? anyway... I also could imagine the girls so feral crazy the second witer that they start to want to procreate, Lottie wanted that baby, maybe this would be a way to feel useful and important. Nat would have to condone? But travis is the only candidate and maybe they want to keep their little cult going because they are so far removed from reality...Loties mom raises the baby...Lisa???? (Lisa told Nat not to tell Charlotte they visited) I am seeing lots of possibilities, they have to shock us again soon....am I crazy?....by the way I love your channel and superb and profound analysis always!

Not crazy at all - we have discussed this is the podcast as well! I think Lisa's mom looks a lot like Travis and Javi's mother, who we just saw for a moment in the pilot episode, so something along these lines as well. Lisa perhaps is the daughter of Lottie or Nat, and Travis is the father; OR that Mrs. Martinez may have been pregnant when the flight left, and Lisa was born while the YJ were stranded. We even speculated the boxes may have been Travis's stuff, after his death. Honestly the secret identity of Lisa is fascinating, and the options are endless! It's a really fun theory to play with. And she may just be Lisa, no strings attached, and her mom just her mom.
@Cdot948 күн бұрын
Interesting theory! I like it. Rewatching the season Lisa's mom does have that classic elitist mother vibe and it would explain why Lisa has the strongest connection to Lotti. I always thought I was because Lisa reminds Lotti of Natalie. Travis and Lotti have something going on, he imagined her during the first time with Nat, he reached out to Lotti not Nat in the end. I can see Lotti convincing Travis to help grow the coven in the wilderness. Lisa does seem older than Callie but I don't think she's old enough to have been born or conceived during the wilderness. If she is Travis's daughter Lottie never told either of them and she didn't say anything about the wilderness to Lisa.

I see adult Nat's character completing a Redemption Arc in season 2. To save time I'm just hitting the high points... Starting at Nat's Kurt Cobain moment. Nat has lost her sense of life-purpose, and hope for happiness. The character could have ended then, but miraculously she is kidnapped at just the right time, and then starts the cult life phase. This phase begins her Transformation. She is paired with Lisa, the Personification of "Nat's own Innocence". Lisa withstands all Nat's attacks, meeting them with unconditional love/forgiveness/acceptance. The scene where Lottie sends Nat into a dream state with a flashlight is the moment where she confronts/faces (instead of running from) her shadow/demons/dirty deeds. When she lays her head in Lottie's lap, it turns into the Young Nat's Face!!! This is Nat's spiritual awakening moment reconnecting to herself, her inner child. The rest of her time at Cult Lottie is the healing portion of her transformation. She embodies her lessons from Lisa, and learns to love and value Herself, and to forgive Herself and Let Go of Past Traumas that haunt her via shame and guilt. To complete the redemption arc, it's common to perform a heroic act which makes up for past wrongdoings. Here Nat's last act was to sacrifice her own life, in order to save Lisa/ the personification of protecting or saving "the innocent/the ideal of innocence". I like to think that Nat was saved from a "Kurt Cobain style death" which to some cultures and religions has certain negative consequences, to have the opportunity to Go by selflessly trying to save another life, which some would say is a better way to go out. There's so much more there about greater themes in the series, but that's for another comment. Here I want to say that I feel this goes along well with our discussions about the Fisher King and Perceval. We talked about how the traumas of life leave us scarred, and to heal them we must face the traumas, and learn to let go/move on, and get back to a state of innocence, see life with the enthusiasm of a child again (the baby on the Sun Tarot Card idea). Also all the discussions about Jung, we see the process of "shadow work" in Nat's arc. All the Catholic symbology you mentioned, sacrificing your life for another, is kind of a Jesus thing, that fits in with the Catholicism. This message is already too big, I'll end on that for now. I would love to hear your thoughts on Nat.
@FeyFire Жыл бұрын
I agree, she had a beautiful arc and even her death can be interpreted as a continuation of her journey. I see her transitioning from warrior to healer, much like Eowyn in LOTR. She evolved from vengeful to healed to healer, and I think Nat's journey was quite similar. Although I would have liked to see more of her in the healer role. Nat was already at the root chakra, so her evolution to death seems natural, imo. But in a sense of surrender, ritualistically speaking. This whole story revolves around the life-death-rebirth cycle, and Nat just took the next step; and this is also why Lisa is so connected to her as well. The things Lisa just experienced will also force her to evolve to a new place, and I think Nat will be her spiritual guide, internally.
@craigenem Жыл бұрын
@@FeyFire WOW. Your ideas are truly next level. Thanks so much for the reply. I actually hope the storyline leaves Lisa alone. Even if they're making 5 seasons, they're reaching critical mass of unexplained questions, especially Tai. And they need to use the episode "time" to explain the other characters and the smaller bizarre mysteries, cabin daddy, the symbol... I see Nat's arc touching on the theme of determinism vs free will. I saw a School of Life video which mirrors Nat's situation, it proposed the higher amount of sushicide in the modern developed world vs. ancient world. Because ancients could explain their actions/situations as controlled by fate or an act of the gods. Where as the rise of ideas of individualism, and being in control of / responsible for your own destiny, grew as a popular thought in the modern age. In the modern scenario it basically sets a person up to blame (different than accountable) themselves for any and all bad things about their situation. The culture breeds shame, guilt, anxiety, self loathing etc. Which are all factors that can lead to those Tendencies. So I see Nat's story as a social commentary as well.
@craigenem Жыл бұрын
@Wolfie Van FrankenStryker I agree that you can apply social constructs any time you're talking about humans. So outside of that and the ever present lack of or unconfirmed information that's not part of written history, I was specifically referring to the one tiny element in that larger design, to only mention the tv show connection to the literature and ideals of Antiquity, just like the references to Ancient Greece in several Fey videos. I will admit it was a horrible summary of the School of Life video which inspired me to write the comment. I think it makes a very interesting point that makes sense in a simple generalized way that is certainly not meant to be explained as the Only reason, and not even the most factual reason. I didn't base it on, what suggested in some research, for sure. It just resonates with me. I recommend watching the full video because unlike me, it's entertaining and a Million times better at explaining the point, than my lacking description. It's a school of life video called The Origins of Sui... It makes a lot more sense than my weak explanation.

I do like the idea of Cali being inducted into the coven because she did join the hunt and she does have that prepared for violence look her mom has.
