😇अहिंसा परमो धर्म 😇 ahiṃsā paramo dharma (“non-harm is the HIGHEST religious principle” or “non-violence is the GREATEST law”). Therefore, only a strict VEGAN can claim to be an adherent of the eternal religion (sanātana dharma).🌱
@vasant_the_punjabi

@@TheWorldTeacher Namakar! Our scriptures absolutely do say that non-harm is the highest priciple/duty/law. I agree with you in general that we should be vegan if we adhere to sanatan dharma. What do you think about dairy? Vegans usually define dairy as non-vegan. However, our scriptures say that dairy is absolutely acceptable if the cow is treated with kindness and respect and non-violence. In America, nobody respects cows so I agree that in America we should not consume milk. But in other contexts, I think it is fine. Also, it is important to note that the scriptures do allow for eating the meat from animals offered as part of Vedic sacrifices. This is discussed in Manu-smriti, Shrimad Bhagavatam, and other scriptures. However, this course of action is recommended against by our sages and rishis, but it is technically allowed. I am only saying this because I do believe we need to have some nuance in how we understand our Sanatan scriptures. Sanatan Dharma does specify that we must be non-violent to the greatest extent possible, but it also give provisions for dairy, animal-sacrifices, war, etc.

Some people get angry at missionaries. If they be being sincere, why get angry at them? I've met Mormon missionaries before. I don't agree with Mormons, but I will be a missionary. These questions some of them made me laugh .. as an inactive member of the church I still answer questions about the church with friends and explain to them however recently some of the questions have all come up about church history and how bad it is and to be fair I never really looked into church history as I am a kind of person where history is the oast we can't do anything about it and I ain't in power of a country so I don't need to know its not gonna affect me in anyway . However these missionarys looked shocked with some of the questions one about race and color of skin and another about women be suppressed When I have come across these questions my answers are always.. Well at the time black ppl were tend to be slaves for the rich ppl and however the gospel is for them it would have made too much of an issue with who had rights and no rights so when this issue was sorted that's when priesthood and what ppl say was the curse gets removed also I remind them that we are all cursed in sin no matter what color until we repent and be baptised. Also women ain't suppressed at all and if it means there more smart focused and modest then thats not suppression thats actually a blessing

6:55 is a tough one, because yes, the Lamanites were given a dark skin as sign of a curse. However, people generally don't understand what a curse is, many even confuse damnation with curse. We are all cursed because of the transgression of Adam and Eve, but that doesn't mean we are all damned or bear the "original sin". Bottom line is: This is a genuine concern to many people but you can't explain it in a few minutes nor should you wash it away.
@fightswordradio3735

That's actually incorrect, the skin thing is actually a Hebrew idiom that is used to figure to leave explain a state of mind or a state of spirituality. Look up Marvin Perkins on KZbin he is on KZbin he is a black member of the church who explains this in detail

@@fightswordradio3735 Oh come on the "virtual black skin" hoax? Really? The Lamanites don't have darker skin? There are no paintings of the darker Lamanites enslaving the brighter Nephites, pictures of which are in your very Book of Mormon? Btw. the Book of Mormon was NOT written in Hebrew. Even this you got wrong. It is really not a good idea to make things up when your limited understanding of gospel truths give you cognitive dissonance. Study the scriptures diligently, pray for advice if a gospel principle troubles your soul and let the Lord give you clarity. HIs promise stands.

I think it does no one any good to bury the past and it could be harmful in this case. These young people seemed completely shocked by the question when really they should've been educated on church history specifically so they would never be thrown by this question or others like it. To be clear, this type of question doesn't come out of thin air and this is a topic that may very well come up on missions. The church promoted a very clear viewpoint in living memory that certainly seems to be racist. I'm grateful for further revelation that made the church's stance today very clear in rejecting racism, but even the church acknowledges that this wasn't always the case: "Today, the Church disavows the theories advanced in the past that black skin is a sign of divine disfavor or curse, or that it reflects unrighteous actions in a premortal life; that mixed-race marriages are a sin; or that blacks or people of any other race or ethnicity are inferior in any way to anyone else. Church leaders today unequivocally condemn all racism, past and present, in any form." www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/race-and-the-priesthood?lang=eng Personally, I really like the interpretation of scripture explained by Brother Fullmer in his "Black and White in the Book of Mormon": kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnWtZ2CFapKUpNU

@Kaspleen 2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure whether this will help as well but I remember reading about this during my study because dark skin was not and is not the curse. The curse was being cut off from the presence of the Lord because of their iniquity. Answers to Gospel Questions, comp. Joseph Fielding Smith Jr., 5 vols. [1957 - 66], 3:122 - 23. “The dark skin was placed upon the Lamanites so that they could be distinguished from the Nephites ... “ “The dark skin was the sign of the curse [not the curse itself]. The curse was the withdrawal of the Spirit of the Lord ...” “The dark skin of those who have come into the Church is no longer to be considered a sign of the curse ... These converts are delightsome and have the Spirit of the Lord”

I think a lot of these misconceptions date clear back to the early days of the restoration, when only a few thousand saints were around and many areas of the world simply had no members anywhere close. They just kind of heard about a "spooky cult" and without solid information to go on, things were basically made up and invented. Even here in the 2020s, we're seeing many of the same imaginations of critics crop up in the public consciousness and it does get hard sometimes to deflate that these things simply aren't real. Being honest about it all is usually enough to convince a fair-minded person. They might spawn more questions, you might answer honestly. Perhaps they'll understand it's not spooky, and probably not a cult (highly depends on definition of cult -- the ones that include it would also have things like Catholics and Protestants labeled as cults and that's not what critics want ;) )

Fun video but there is a big error at 4:59 that needs to be fixed. The church in fact does has paid ministry. The top 90+ church leaders all make a healthy six-figure salary and with all their salaries added as well as other church positions it sums up to a much larger amount than the church donates to charity everywhere.
@CalledtoShare
@CalledtoShare 2 жыл бұрын
It is not a salary, it is a stipend. But yes, very few of the officers of the church receive this stipend. Those in the ministry who receive the stipend are so few, that it's more accurate to state that the ministry of the Church isn't paid. Should people know about the stipend? Yes. But are any who receive the stipend making more money than they did at the previous employment? Probably not. President Nelson was a heart surgeon probably making over $500,000 (or a lot more) and now gives 24/7 of his time to the Church for a stipend of $150,000-$200,000 a year maybe? The only reason a stipend is given is because they are ask to give all of their time to their calling as prophets, apostles, or seventy. Thanks for the comment!

@@CalledtoShare in 2014 the stipend (living allowance) was moved to $120k per year. As reported by The Salt Lake Tribune with no response from Church representatives, 89 men make up the top-tier of the church that make this allowance. That sums up to nearly 11 million per year, which is shockingly only half of what the church donates per year (According to financial records the church donated $60m per year, more than 60% of that comes from private donations such as LDS Philanthropy Organizations and not from the Church’s funds whatsoever). Yes, it is a stipend but why does it need to be so much? Praising these men of dropping their larger paid jobs is nothing more than a Scotsman Fallacy that holds no value to this topic. I see members here in Asia that go hungry for days because they pay their 10%, please tell me why the church decides to divide 11 million among its top 89 men? Let’s also address the New Testament where Christ said his disciples should sell everything they have and give it to the poor. I don’t see this happening even to the 1% from the church and especially not from the leaders. Very disappointing.

I’d also like to add that included in the “stipend” besides a yearly salary is free life insurance from Beneficial Mutual, free housing expenses, free travel expenses, free tuition expenses for family members at church schools. @@LoganBeck Let me ask you....have YOU sold EVERYTHING you have and given the money to the poor? Also, keep things in context....when Jesus said this, He was speaking to an individual referred to in the Bible as 'the rich young ruler'. This man felt he had kept all the commandments, but Jesus knew his heart. Jesus knew that he clung to his riches and and placed them before God in his life. The counsel Jesus gave was for this individual and was not a blanket statement that applied to all. God is not opposed to wealth (look at Abraham and Job, Genesis 13:2; Job1:1-3), but it is the LOVE of money (not money itself) that causes problems in people's lives. (1Timothy 6:10). Elsewhere Jesus said 'it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for those who 'TRUST IN RICHES' (not those who HAVE riches) to enter the kingdom of God'. (Mark 10:23-25). It's all about your relationship with money and whether it is impacting negatively on your relationship with God. Abraham and Job had great riches but they handled them responsibly and valued their relationship with God above everything....and the fruit of their lives bear this truth out. 'By their fruits you will know them' (Matthew7:15-20).

They do. The general authorities that devote their full time to the Lord receive a stipend. "General authorities leave their careers when they are called into full-time church service. When they do so, they focus all of their time on serving the church and are given a living allowance. The living allowance is uniform for all general authorities [including First Presidency, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, First and Second Quorums of the Seventy and Presiding Bishopric]." - Latter-day Saint Church spokesman Eric Hawkins

Their questions: "you don't believe in the bible because you have your own book?" My answer: "not true at all you've been lied to. In fact if you read the book of Mormon the first family of the book left Jerusalem for safety. God commanded the sons to return to get a set of brass plates. When they returned with the plates their father read them and discovered "they did contain the five books of Moses, which gave an account of the creation of the world, and also of Adam and Eve, who were our first parents; 12 And also a record of the Jews from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah; 13 And also the prophecies of the holy prophets, from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah; and also many prophecies which have been spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah" in other words God sent them back to get the Bible to bring to the new world. Ah yes all wrong, note the different number of so called wives. I am no church historian but, no I would say he only loved his wife Emma. He loved his family also but not in the same way. Sickness often would take the lives of husbands or wives, women didn't really have the rights they have today it was very hard to be a widow with a few kids, ya know. So people were married for that reason, also there was a time were members were confused on how to get to the highest degree of glory so there was something called sealings or temple marriages and women would get sealed to the prophet (that's not how that works btw) and then the two people would go their separate ways. All the being said yes there was men with lots wives, kinda weird, not gonna lie. Something to do with the church needing more people, probably because everywhere else we went everyone wanted to kill us. I really don't think I could do that if I lived in those times. In the Saints book, I believe it talks about how Joseph really, really didn't want to tell people God wanted it to be a thing, but hey when God tells ya to do something you so it. Also if you want to know what I am telling the truth, just pray about, God's not going to lie to you.

Hey! Saw that your question wasn’t really answered, so ima do my best. I’m fairly sure that it’s still a held belief that Native Americans are descendants of Laman and/or Lemuel - the sons of Lehi, who left Jerusalem in 600 B.C. - however, I am not sure about Pacific Islanders; at least, I never really learned that as the introduction of the Book of Mormon only said that the Lamanites are “among the ancestors of the American Indians” (Introduction of the Book of Mormon). As that statement is still in the introduction of the Book of Mormon, I would say that it is still a held belief (idk bout “common” or not) that Native Americans are descendants of Laman and/or Lemuel; not sure about Pacific Islanders, since I don’t know. Not saying that’s it’s not possible, though, since it does say something interesting that MIGHT (emphasis on “might”) point towards that in the Book of Mormon in Alma 63:5-8: “And it came to pass that Hagoth, he being an exceedingly curious man, therefore he went forth and built him an exceedingly large ship, on the borders of the land Bountiful, by the land Desolation, and launched it forth into the west sea, by the narrow neck which led into the land northward. “And behold, there were many of the Nephites who did enter therein and did sail forth with much provisions, and also many women and children; and they took their course northward. And thus ended the thirty and seventh year. “And in the thirty and eighth year, this man built other ships. And the first ship did also return, and many more people did enter into it; and they also took much provisions, and set out again to the land northward. “And it came to pass that they were never heard of more. And we suppose that they were drowned in the depths of the sea. And it came to pass that one other ship also did sail forth; and whither she did go we know not” (Alma 63:5-8). Dunno what happened to those Nephites, so they could have been the ones to be the ancestors of Pacific Islanders, but I don’t know. They supposed that they drowned, and they very well might have. It’s not impossible for them to be their ancestors though, if you take into account the Great Pause in Polynesian history, but I’m just going to leave it there since this is just mere speculation. In other much more shorter words: Yes, we believe that Native Americans are descended from Laman and/or Lemuel, but we’re - or I’m - not sure about Pacific Islanders; although, they MIGHT (emphasis on “might”) be, but that’s something you gotta ask God about since I don’t know everything. Anyways, sorry for the essay lollll. Hope that helped! If you have any more questions, I have some missionary friends that would love to help :))

However, there is no archeological evidence of the cultures presented in the Book of Mormon during the time periods it takes place. Man these questions are really surface. What I want to ask missionaries: Why don't you use Joseph Smith's written down first hand account of the first vision? Why would God give free agency and then use an angel with a flaming sword to threaten you to do his will? Why is coffee so bad that if you drink it you can't go to the temple but Red Bull is fine? Why did God change his mind on if children of gay parents should be baptized in just a few years time? Why would God give two contradicting commandments at the same time and make it impossible to follow both?

Great questions. 1) The account that is used was canonized in the Pearl of Great Price and thus became the best known account. That's why it's used by the missionaries, but all the accounts are found here > www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/first-vision-accounts?lang=eng 2) Great question. Plural marriage must have been really important. 3) Not sure. I trust the revelation given in section 89 of the Doctrine and Covenant. Hot drinks are specifically mentioned, Red Bull isn't. 4) President Nelson gave a whole talk on this at BYU. Link should start at the 1709 mark where he references this > kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHO3ZZZrn7yHo9U 5) If this is in reference to the Garden of Eden, I have thought that it might have been possible God didn't want them multiplying and replenishing right away, but later. Consider the law of chastity, there is a sequence to us living that law. Before marriage, sexual relations are prohibited. After marriage, sexual relations are divinely approved between husband and wife, legally and lawfully married. Perhaps God didn't want Adam and Eve to partake of the fruit for a time, and then that command would be lifted so they could multiple and replenish. Just a thought. This one has always confused, me, and the whole Christian world. I can't wait to fully comprehend this one day.

Study and learn and pray for yourself with a sincere heart and you’ll have your heart softened and eyes opened! Blessings to you all!

I was raised LDS in the 70s My African American friends who were members of the Church could NOT recieve the priesthood nor serve a mission , couldn't recieve a temple recommend etc because of the curse of Ham due to the color of their skin. But it changed in 1978 when the priesthood ban was lifted. released
