I'm so stoked for the airport line, Thornlie-Cockburn Central link, and Ellenbrooke line to get up an running! All we need after that is possible trams to serve more residential areas in Perth. I read about the possible trams on the Metronet website

It is great time for metro public transport, a tram line from the city CBD out to Victoria Park and Curtin Uni, and one up Beaufort Street to Edith Cowan Uni at Mount Lawley.... Drew

@@DrewsRailwayWorld I can not wait. I wish we had better/faster trains that served places like Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Bunbury, and even Albany and Esperance

Thank you. Is the project nearly ready? Any updates in the pipeline?

Thanks for watching, and your comment. The project is progressing but Metronet have announced that the Thornlie-Cockburn Central link will not open on its completion but in conjunction with the opening of the Armadale Line after it's own major upgrades (including raised sections and new stations) are finished, estimated to be 2025. Updates on the various other projects are on the cards, Bayswater Station being the last published (see my last video), then the Ellenbrook Line (some footage already in the can), Thornlie-Cockburn Central link, and Yanchep-Butler extension. ....Drew

How come you filmed on the left on the Mandurah Line train so the middle area where the Thornlie tracks and the tunnel will be wasn't visible. Nevertheless, a great video to see the progress of the construction!

Hi, thanks for your comment, I did on the return trip from Murdoch unfortunately most of it was unusable due to glare and over exposure, normally I would reshoot but I was literally hours away from driving to Tom Price which is where I uploaded the video from today .....Drew

Quick question, I might be being dumb here. But, any idea what the "u-rail" mentioned at the stations is? I just keep thinking of "U-Bahn" in Germany, which is decidedly different.
@DrewsRailwayWorld2 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for your comment. What I found in my research on your question and from my limited engineering knowledge was that U Tunnel is an engineering term/ methodology applied to a category of tunnels built for roads, rail, subways etc. Sorry, this all I could find out .... Drew

@@DrewsRailwayWorld No complaints, that would make sense for the context. And thanks for the continuing quality videos.

I think the U-rail mentioned in this video are U-shaped bike racks

Is the freight line standard guage?
@DrewsRailwayWorld2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the video, and for your question. The freight line is actually dual gauge, a combination of 'standard' and 'narrow' gauges, this allows WA regional freight trains (many of which are historically narrow gauge) and standard gauge interstate freight access to amalgamated rail freight infrastructure, you can see this gauge duality clearly in another of my videos "Calling All Stations - Perth Suburban Railways: Part 5 Thornlie to Perth", at 03:17 - 04:39. This shows the same freight line in the video your question relates too, which runs parallel with the Metronet commuter line currently terminating at Thornlie (the starting/end point of the under construction Cockburn Link extension) ...Drew

@@DrewsRailwayWorld thank you for the reply. I remember visiting the UGL site at Bassendean and noticed the dual guage there. Do you see WA converting all trunk routes to standard gauge?
@drewstravelworld64162 жыл бұрын
@@AustNRail Never say never, however, the narrow gauge lines are mostly in the interior and serve wheatbelt centres, the freight lines are rated as tier 1/ 2 and 3, and read that CBH and the State Government are doing major maintenance to many tier 3 lines that were closed or under threat of closure, I assume they will rejuvenate what exists as narrow gauge, it is cheaper then standard gauge and the infrasructure and rolling stock is already available. ....Drew ps lines built for mining that are relatively new constructions from my knowledge are standard gauge e.g. Pilbara Railways.
