I was on a set to the Perth royal show last Friday on the second last day it said special on the thing rare

Hi, thanks for watching and your comment. you're right normal service trains do run to Claremont Showground during a significant event like the Royal Show etc., but they are everyday services that would run anyway show or no show, they are not 'specials'. However, during the Royal Show Transperth run extra trains that are called 'specials' because they only run during the 8 days of the show and only travel between Perth and the Showgrounds. In off peak periods, weekends and public holidays these 'specials' run non-stop which is very unusual pattern, the use of Platform 3 at Showgrounds is also unusual. and use of Perth's Platform 6 and 9, more so the latter are also fairly rare. Events like the Royal Show which is once a year concentrate a lot of passengers into a relative short time and the trains that serve an 'event' station like Showgrounds exclusively are given the title 'Specials'. In railway terms a special is a train that runs outside of the normal timetable. On the first day of the show this year 60,000 people attended, many, maybe the majority, travelled by train. Another example are events at Optus/Perth Stadium when event 'special' trains typically carry 28.000 people away after the event finishes. ...Drew

I went on this train for the sake of going on the train on Sunday but I didn't film it. Didn't think someone else would make a video of it!

Hi, I thought it was worth it after I did the initial trip. It's not often we get as much going on with Perth's Platform 9 and 6 in full swing, and the bay platform 3 at Showgrounds as a terminal for off-peak non-stop services and extra stopping services at peak times, a train every 10 minutes in both directions. There was only 1 glitch I experienced in filming 8 trips (I had to be at the Royal Show not just for filming), but didn't film, when a 'non-stop' Showground service stopped at City West station much to everyone's surprise, the driver came on the intercom and explained the wrong stopping pattern was set! I bet the passengers that got on were happy! .....Drew

@@DrewsRailwayWorld I guess mistakes will happen, but that is quite funny

@@DrewsRailwayWorld Oh wow that mistake is cool! I've never experienced something like that before. So you went on the train 8 times?
@DrewsRailwayWorld3 жыл бұрын
Indeed 8 times, but I was helping with setup and troubleshooting on the CBH Grain Train at the Royal Show, parked at East Perth and got the train in /back which accounted for 6 times, I was going there anyway so killed two birds with one stone as the saying goes, the other 2 times were to to re-shoot a couple of sections in off peak. ....Drew

Awesome video and I didn't know that Perth had the same EMU's as Brisbbane. I haven't visited perth for like 17 years when my sister and I caught the Overland from Melbourne to Adelaide then the IP to Perth. We took a day trip to Freo before boarding our 11 pm flight back to Melbourne.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment, wow that was quite a journey for such a short stay, I envy you. I travelled on the Trans-Austrlian which only went as far as Adelaide, then the old overnight Overlander to Melbourne. Still on my list to do is the XPT Melbourne to Sydney, and the Tilt train to North Queensland, travel on our 'shared' trains on Translink, also the QR inland services, the Gulf-Lander and the Savannah-Lander. ...Drew

@@DrewsRailwayWorld I was on the tilt train 15 years ago to Cairns. My 2 sisters and I caught the 2 overnight xpt's from Melbourne to Brisbane. Then spent a day at Dreamworld before boarding the tilt train. Back then I left at around 7:30 pm. Also been on the Kuranda scenic rail. Haven't done any other QR trains yet. And a few months ago my partner and I went to Canberra for the day on the Explorer.

are there certain times that it goes cause i would go on it just cause. i also want to go on an express service but it just never happens
@DrewsRailwayWorld2 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks for your question, the Express seems to start running just after the normal commuter morning rush hour and finishes just before the afternoon commuter rush hour Mondays-Fridays, I am not sure about Saturday/ Sunday express services. In my video the trains were just after 1:30pm from Perth to Showgrounds and just after 2:00pm return from Showgrounds to Perth (on a different day). ....Drew
