My adult daughter had cystic acne and we went down the internet rabbit hole where sites claim to cure acne. It was becoming disfiguring and she went on Accutane. It completely cured her acne and now she’s on a prescription Vitamin A. She’s so much happier with her skin and cystic acne really made her sad. Thank you for challenging this companies claims

As a person with acne, I took the benzoyl peroxide slander personally 😤 It's been an incredible addition to my routine and it makes me sad to think that someone who's struggling with acne might see that fear mongering and steer clear of an ingredient that could honestly change their life. It also angers me because it's such a predatory marketing scheme they're employing - inventing a problem so they can sell you the solution. Of course, they're also the _only_ ones that have the solution - everything else is bad and dangerous and doesn't work and yada yada.

It has been a real game changer for my sensitive armpits too. Passed in the info to my young adult child, they are utilizing it with great benefits to odor control and acne healing! It's so frustrating that many companies want to destroy consumer confidence in efficacious, affordable treatments. They really do not care about people's health in any way.

You're absolutely right. BP is an amazing treatment, and I had great success with it until my skin developed an intolerance to it. I think that's how this product should be marketed - by giving people who truly can't use many of the conventional treatment a new option. Not by scaring people from trying the more researched ingredients in the first place.

i tried phyla for about 4 months. previously i was using bp, niacinamide, azelaic acid, and tretinoin but still having occasional breakouts and hoped the bacteriophage would be helpful for reducing those. i had a bad purge for the first 3ish weeks with worse acne than i'd ever had. after that things seemed to be calming down for the next month, but i had really bad hyperpigmentation and couldn't use any products to address it since they say the bacteriophage can be killed by a lot of common skincare ingredients. about 2.5 mos in i had a second round of even worse acne than the first purge and again a lot of PIH. eventually i decided to switch back to my former routine and am now on the slow road to tapering back up on retinol. i definitely regret being swayed by phyla's marketing.

Thank the LORD someone is talking about this! I finally caved and bought it after year of solid advertising got to me and I could see nothing about it on KZbin or Reddit. MISTAKE. I had the worst, most painful cysts and blind pimples I had ever had in my life!!! Not just in my normal problem areas but also my cheeks and even by my temples too. And worse because Phyla is sensitive to everything else you could possibly use on your face to help, I was stuck doing 20+ minutes of warm compresses for relief at night. After 3 weeks and no improvement I had to call it quits. Skin instantly started healing, thank god but I am still not out of the woods with PIH.

Thankfully now there are specific moisturisers for people with acne, who in the past were of the mindset of thinking that they needed to "dry out" their skin (by going in the sun, using hash astringents & physical exfolients and avoiding moisturisers). Acne heals better when the skin us hydrated and supple...not when the skin is dry & tight on the surface. For the day a 50+ sunscreen will contain ingredients to be able to "double" as a moisturiser, and at night time a salicylic acid moisturiser on the acne prone areas and a regular moisturiser on the acne free areas (eg. around the eyes). Don't forget the azelaic acid too, as a preventitive, helping to keep pores clear and reducing redness. Even if you are a teen you still need to moisturise! 👱‍♀️❤

I came across this brand a couple years ago when my acne was cystic and before I saw a dermatologist. I was honestly really interested and persuaded by their “study,” but in the end decided not to take the plunge because a. i had never heard about their technology before and it seemed too good to be true and b. it was out of my price range. I’m glad I didn’t end up using their products, because eventually I did see a dermatologist and it turns out my acne is hormonal, which cleared up after she prescribed me my spironalactone. With the knowledge about skin that I know now (thanks to this channel) I’m also annoyed by all the fear mongering and misinformation spread by this company. It’s not surprising and yet I’m still disappointed to see it.

As always Dr Dray is the voice of knowledge and reason. Thank you for debunking this misinformation. I hate to think someone would avoid treatment because of that ignorant person. I personally have suffered with mild to moderate acne as a teen and starting in my 30's, rosacea. I have subscribed to your channel for several years now and credit YOU with "curing" my rosacea. For me minimizing inflammation is key to controlling my rosacea. Topical niacinamide, sunscreen, and high potency oral turmeric are key along with good non irritating skin care. I would love to use tretinoin for the anti-aging benefits but it is just too irritating for my skin.

I just quit Phyla after 6 weeks. I had to tap out; my acne grew far, far worst than before. My face looked like I had a severe food allergy; it was all over my forehead, cheeks, and neck, with both cysts and white heads. Even areas that never had acne started to develop some. I just washed now with my good ol’ benzoyl peroxide wash and I already the inflammation starting to shrink and calm. Will also be going back to my previous routine of retinoids. Phyla is an interesting concept on the science side, but it is not quite developed yet for widespread and consistent effectiveness. Like another comment said, I wish I had never bought it, but at least I can say I’ve tried it.

I, for one, have only had true success with lessening the severity of my acne using a combo of a salicylic acid or enzymatic cleanser, a Benzoyl Peroxide spot treatment, and both Niacinamide and Hypochlorous serums. (Followed up of course with peptide rich moisturizers and a face oil to provide occlusive layers in my routine) that and focusing on anti inflammation in my diet has helped alot too. I noticed no change in my acne using Phylla. I really wanted it to work but at the time didn’t even know about the aggressive anti BP/Tret/antibiotics marketing they have. At the end of the day, it was wayyyyy too expensive to keep up for my budget. Plus it had to be refrigerated, wasnt nearly moisturizing enough, and it bothers me now to know that they market themselves as science backed when its not

I wish you had commented on how low the supposed IGA score improvement they claim is when compared to the standard used for the standard of care acne treatments. Standard of care treatments have multiple, published, peer-reviewed clinical studies and usually define clinically meaningful improvement as a >=2 point improvement of IGA score. The phyla "study" claims an IGA improvement of

As an aside, I think it’s important to mention that many of the major online acne treatments companies formulate their products with topical clindamycin, and in my experience, have had no intention of taking me off it or making clear the dangers of “super bug” development. While I do use benzoyl as well and my skin looks great while using clin, I have tried stopping clindamycin for a four month period and all hell broke loose on my skin. It was primarily intolerable cystic flares, despite my continued use of other abrasives such as azeliac acid. I would love to figure out a way to stop clindamycin without going through this again!

Wow...the bogus claims just keep rolling in. 🙄 It's amazing how many people keep spreading misinformation about tretinoin. The internet truly is a double-edged sword. 😕⚔

As a living proof of using benzoyl peroxide, I think I have a say in here. I have been using benzoyl peroxide for 10 years now and still using (I just ordered Panoxyl and Cerave 2 days ago), no signs of premature skin aging due to it. Helps to keep my skin clean, clear and better than without it. Every time I took a break from it, I always has to go back to it to fight with acne. Of course you have to always use moisturizer with it. In moisturizer there are always a bunch of anti oxidants if you’re afraid of oxidative stress. Side note: I look many years younger than my age. Not because of benzoyl peroxide but maybe because of the moisturizer I used with it helped smooth my wrinkles in my early 30s. Now I’m in my late 30s and look not much different, and also because of my lifestyle. These claims are just doing more bad than good to the community. I’m surprised and saddened to see how people can really have the gut to claim things like these for their own sake. No good at all.

I wonder with telemedicine sites being able to provide topicals formulated with antibiotics for indefinite usage (as long as the consumer keeps buying the product) if this has posed an increased risk in antibiotic resistance

Salam. I think you should try to do your best. Technically only 3 prayers…fajr, Zuhr, and asr need reapplication in my opinion. And that is pretty similar to her recommendation of reapplication. But it does depend on whether you’re indoors vs outdoor as well

Thank u!!! Would be great if you could look into Kat Burki, the skincare company based on adaptive nutritional science (is that even a thing?)? The pseudoscience is strong, altho the formulas feel lovely & certainly do moisturize, esp in the vitamin c line. I paid less than drugstore prices for a couple products on boxy, but regular retail prices are insane, esp if this is a lot of hogwash. Also, once you see the ingredient lists, your eyes won't be able to stop rolling lol.... there's all kinds of flower waters, horsetail extract, and so many layers of pseudoscience. It really seems like the chemists created a lovely base formula (it's one of the nicest feeling face creams I've ever used), and then the head pseudoscientist started jazzing it up with every concept under the sun, although I don't see much nutrition involved, but i guess that's the vitamin C, ufda. The ingredient list looks like what you would get if you told someone to just look at botanical diy skincare on pinterest (and I say this as someone who loves to diy skincare, but with commonsense thrown in lol).

Hi Dr Dray☺️ Hope to find you well. I follow you since a year now and thank you for sharing your knowledge with us🙏💕 I LOVE your series “the best 10 products of a brand”. In particular, I’d loooove to know which are your faves of the brand: L’Oréal. I come from Europe, from Italy and most of the retinol based products such as adapalene are not available here🥲 but L’Oréal is very popular and I really would like to introduce a retinol in my skincare routine (I have adult acne). Hope to find one 🙏 love you, bye🥰

This company thinks people are stupid especially acne sufferers. I have acne and it was worse when I was younger and I use and still use benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid alongside tretinoin and I know it does not make me age faster. The fine lines around my eyes and on my forehead are not since using retinoids over 5 years ago and the sun damage on my back is almost gone now from using tretinoin.

My acne prone sensitive eczema skin that can't even tolerate niacinamide loves benzoyl peroxide wash and clindamycin gel. Morning I use clindamycin followed by a vitamin B5 and vitamin E serum, night I used BP wash followed by adapoline.. My acne and eczema haven't flared and my skin went from terribly dry to now plump and shines like glass. Science can be a mess lol
