On the Eastern slopes of the Adelaide Hills, about 40 km from Mt' Lofty Station, is the small town of Callington. This once , vibrant Copper mining town , is now home to a few hundred people , and is a quiet , close community . Just outside the town , among ploughed fields , is the popular "Callington Curve" , a favourite with local rail fans. Having been on my list for a while, I decided to take the "Polestar" for a highway trip to this interesting location. My first train is a Eastbound Pacific National , which has an issue with a loaded steel car , which I report to ARTC, who own and maintain the tracks , and the train is put into the next siding to inspect the car.
This is a great spot, and worth the 40 min drive from Stirling, so stay tuned for more from "Callington Cure".
Cheers Gregg.

Wonderful video, Gregg, it's amazing how fast that train was going. Lot faster than North American trains going up a pass. Again great video. Cheers from Terry in mild Nebraska.

Thanks Terry! That's actually going downgrade there, its tricky to see , but looks flatter than it is. Remember , our axle loads are a lot less than yours , so the same length train down here is lighter than those in the US ! PLus our locos weigh about 60 tonnes less, so they have less tractive effort 🙂 Trains going up past Lofty get down to a crawl , as you have seen . Lovely weather coming in now , and less humidity! Cheers Gregg

great camera work as always Gregg! Two lovely looking consists, especially the third locomotive on the first train with that full-width carbody. It looks quite British too with the livery and shape.

Thank you Sir! The "G" class is a EMD loco , 3000hp and a vintage unit now days, pretty much identical to NSW railways 81 class. Still a lot of 81's getting around, as they are very reliable , and powerful locos...basically a SD40 -2 in a box! CHeers Gregg.

@@FishplateFilms EMDs in boxes always turn out great. BR class 66s are proof of that. The “G” reminds of a class 35 hymek, but bigger.

Nice spot Gregg. How far off is the move from Brisbane? Surely the summer just gone will be your last stinking hot humid Qld summer and you can enjoy the scorching dry heat of SA.

Thanks Peter! Things are moving very slowly , but I hope to make some progress later this year? Absolutely sick of the humidity in Brisbane , and hope this will be the last one , fingers crossed! It was 32 in Stirling one day last week , but it was lovely and dry and so much nicer! Can't wait to move Sir. Cheers Gregg.

LOL Thanks Shaun! Actually the Polestar is much nicer than the Tesla Model 3 I hired last visit.... much quieter and a normal car interior! Great regen with one pedal driving and real door handles! Gregg😋

@@FishplateFilmsi always drive an auto with both feet. i have better control. if theres only 1 pedal, are brakes an optional extra? how does it work?
@FishplateFilms
@FishplateFilms 4 ай бұрын
@@vsvnrg3263 There is a brake pedal! The regen works the same as dynamic brakes in a loco, the traction motor/s generates power when being pushed or going down hill. That power is fed into the batteries , which causes a load on the motor , slowing the car and charging the battery! Locos use huge heaters which waste the power as heat, but in EV's you get free power back every time you brake or go down hill. Once you get used to it, it's great! Gregg.
