For all my fellow weirdos. Some of this is based on my private experience.
If you have any of these "symptoms" (though this is not the whole spectrum), you might want to take an OCD test online. If it turns out positive and you feel your daily life is negatively affected, try visiting a psychologist. Hopefully this video encourages you to read a bit about the disorder.
Don't be ashamed - more people suffer from OCD than you might think. We're just really good at hiding it.

Sierrah DiCosimo maybe I’m just a perfectionist but sometimes small habits make me question if they are still normal because like many people in the comment section are talking about this time pressure thing but I don’t have this I have more like if something isn’t perfectly aligned or if this one specific door isn’t closed or if I write something some lines just don’t feel right even tho I think they’d look perfectly fine to other people but I have to ‘correct‘ them or I’m getting this really weird feeling but maybe that’s just perfectionism Idk 😐
@Nneeras
@Nneeras 4 жыл бұрын
@@insa8142 Perfectionism is the urge for things to be perfect. OCD is more like doing things to your own accord. Perfectionism is the over all definition of that object being perfect. For example; drawing a perfect circle, most would think of a clean line and a perfect dimensional shape. That's perfectionism. Some OCDs close to the perfectionism category would be like; drawing a circle with one indent. It's not "perfect" but it HAS to be that way. In their eyes it's the RIGHT way.
@insa8142
@insa8142 4 жыл бұрын
Sierrah DiCosimo When I’m writing or drawing it’s like you said in the description of OCD but in every other way I think it’s perfectionism🤷🏽‍♀️ But it’s only writing and drawing so it isn’t that bad I should probably not worry about that too much 🤷🏽‍♀️ Thanks tho for explaining ☺️

Soo I'm almost out of the tunnel after battling ocd for 7 years. It's a VERY long process and it's so difficult to eliminate all of the rituals, now I have only one or two. I'm so happy, I have my life back. the intrusive thoughts are starting to fade and now I always tell myself :"your family Is not gonna die if you don't close your backpack 5 times" and know I'm starting to believe it. To all the people with ocd, i'm with you, you can do this :-)

Mine actually developed into urinary frequency , i didn't even noticed that my ocd caused it until I went to the doctor. We did urinalysis , ultrasound , blood tests and all were normal then i realized what if it was because whenever i thought of something bad , i would always force myself to pee because for me it was a way to prevent that bad thought to happen, it came to the point where if i touch something i'd pee , if i think of something bad, i'd pee , for me peeing was a way to relieve myself of these thoughts , but then I wasn't able to really do or enjoy anything because every fricking 3 minutes I would want to pee , it was really frustrating for me , Thankfully I've finally stopped it now, and enjoying life ! ,:)

Agreed. It’s called perfectionism. I consider myself a perfectionist. That means you love things to be clean and organized at all times. OCD is a mental disorder in which you need to accomplish repetitive tasks to feel satisfied and anxiety-free for the time being. It’s a real problem. People shouldn’t really be self-diagnosing themselves. It’s very frustrating, I feel terrible for the people with OCD that have to listen to that moronic bullshit.

Yes and no... Ive had severe OCD for a large portion of my life and it effects my reading alot. If I read and I think I misread, I'll reread the page. Then my brain uses that to,fire a storm of OCD by making me read if again.. Then each sentence out loud.... Then I'll start spelling out the words and reading out puncuation. It got to the point I could not read to help me relax (something I use to do) and in school I had to get extended times on tests cause of how long it take just reading a paragraph. So yes, if you're brain says "do it or else" (not exactly like that but just simplefying) when rereading and u keep repeating that process even though you KNOW you read it correctly.... Then, yes.

So i am almost 100% certain its not Ocd, and im not going to say it is because i am not going to self diagnose, but i have “rules“ i have to abide by in my head. I have my bedtime rules; i have to turn off my light and when i do i have to run to my bed, close my eyes, and count from 10 to 1 four times, then look at my closet and vent 4 times unless I have the feeling that I will get killed in my sleep. I also have a thing where I simply cannot STAND the thought of wearing clothes someone else has worn that I don’t know. It makes me feel disgusted, and it makes me freak out. I have thoughts that pop into my head that show me really scary visuals, and say things like “ What if we just got into a car crash and drove into the ocean right now?” And then I won’t be able to stop looking out the window constantly to make sure it doesn’t happen. It doesn’t happen all the time and it’s not consistent, but sometimes I get things where I have to do something repeatedly until it feels 100% correct, or else I’ll end up feeling really disturbed, and on the verge of breaking down. Just an overall horrible feeling. I’m not sure why this happens to me or why I do these things. I don’t think I have OCD, but then again I could be wrong. I do have BPD, but I don’t think this has anything to do with that considering none of the symptoms are on that diagnosis? If anyone could give insight on this, or have any recommendations, that would be greatly appreciated, thank you! :>

Dude, this comment is too vague to be making those assumptions about it. I understand being defensive about a disorder that is severely misunderstood by the majority of people - especially one which sounds like either you have or a close friend or relative has - but we don't know if this person's mom legit has OCD or not. It's pretty unclear, but again, I understand your defences. No disrespect intended.

@annabak8331
@annabak8331 8 жыл бұрын

The worst is when you have those ticks that if you don’t do something a certain way then something bad will happen. For example, I would have to pray this exact same prayer every single day.. repeatedly begging god that he keeps my family (specifically my grandparents because they are getting old) alive, healthy, well, and safe. I had a whole speech memorized that I would repeat constantly to god in prayer. One night I was so exhausted after repeating this for the 10 millionth time in a row that I ended up giving up. The anxiety I felt all night was eating at me.. worrying to death that since I didn’t repeat it enough that something bad would happen to them. But I stayed strong and finally ended up falling asleep. Nonetheless, the next morning I wake up to a phone call.. Turns out my Nana got admitted to the hospital and nearly died. I think god just wants me to have ocd at this point.

The fact you have to touch something until it feels right is so true. Sometimes it never feels right and I cry because the anxiety I get won't go away. It is a such a disgustingly strong lure to having everything perfect. I had OCD so bad, I would constantly wash my hands, it got so bad my hands were so dry they cracked and bled. I got on medicine which helped but I stopped taking it. I hate when kids at my school act like its cute to have OCD. They don't understand its a terrible disorder. The fact I have to turn my fan off and on 20 times and realize my footing wasn't right and do it again. To then realize my hands our now disgusting and I must go wash them and I have to close the door with my foot so my hands won't get dirty and to make sure my bed sheets are perfectly over the bed and the bed it pushed against the wall, to go wash my hands again. Finally become content and go to sleep. It has gotten better after speaking with a therapist. Please don't say you have OCD because its "cute". I commented this but I thought it would be nice on this thread.

Let me add that when watching a movie and I don't know what they said, I can't focus and it ruins the next scene. As a kid I didn't know it was already starting. Ang example of this is when I was young I would be like: "If I don't get there in 5 seconds I will die." "If I step on the line of the tile I will die." -I would keep on fixing the knife's position to make sure that if ever someone trips they won't get hit by the sharp part of it. -scary/harmful thoughts -destructive thoughts Having an OCD is not fun BUT you have to always remember YOU ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS. Don't try to fight it. Just observe it instead. You are not a bad person for having those thoughts💗 Hang in there, buddy. There are no such thing in this planet that is permanent. So, if you get a thought let it come and go. Letting go is hard BUT by living in the present moment you will see a difference😊 Keep on going! Don't give-up! Try to live every moment instead of expecting that this will end ( this may cause you more anxiety if your expectations aren't met ) You're a wonderful being!💗✨

@bean dingus no its OCD, its completely irrational their brain is tricking them into thinking they want to do that, they dont want to do that they have a fear that they will, almost in a way that they cant control it like all a sudden something will come over them and they will do what ever action it is, and so they begin to obssess about it until they convince themselves its irrational, but then 2 minutes later it comes back and torments you, so you repeat the this is insane process because its better than living with the fear, the fear people with OCD in a situation like this expierience is the same amount of someone actually stabbing your eyeball, its absolute hell. This is one of the many many many examples of things people with OCD go through their entire day, restlessness.

I had this since I was eight. Always had to walk steps in 1-3-4-6-8. If I didn't, I'd go back all the way down and repeat it until I get it right. If I didn't do that, I wouldn't be able to concentrate in school and would obsess about it until I can finish it. So fucked up, yet you can't do nothing about it. Your body literally shakes until you get it right. Luckily I moved into the country and there are no stairs here...

Tilly I lot of things bug me that shouldn't matter (also that thing she said in the video about having to touch things just right, I do that, but I can usually resist the urge to retouch something in public, or touch my phone, ruby finger along a desk or something) but it's not OCD, it's just things that but me. And every one and a while my mom will do the "you're so OCD joke" and I remind her that's not the case. Next time I might joke back and ask if she's willing to pay to go get diagnosed (since she's so insistent)

I myself is pretty sure that I have OCD. Examples: -When I walk in public, I can’t touch the littles gaps between the concrete. -When I walk up the stairs, I have to count to 3, and repeat it until I am at the top. -When I am sitting in a chair, I have to fidget my foot in a triangle 7 times before I can relax. (If I am talking to someone, I don’t stop till the conversation is over. -when I’m listening to music, and have to stop it for some reason, I have to stop at a point where they take a pause (I cant stop in the middle of them singing a sentence). -when sitting someone I cant reactance the floor, I have to count to 7 until I can get off. -when walking across the street, I have to touch the pole 7 times. -when laying down in my bed, with my knees up. I have diagnosed OCD, and everything your saying is relatable on such a fundamental level. If what you are experiencing is having a major impact on your life or even if your just curious if you might have it TALK TO A DOCTOR. As for being conerned- well it depends on the person. I have often suffered the downward spirals depicted in the vid, and I learned what was particularly triggering and avoid it. I've also learned to accept it as a part of me- in many ways this was made easier by my upbringing bc my dad also has it, but there was definitely some pain and self growth to get where I am now. I hope this helps and enlightens you (and that the double spaces after sentences are not triggering 🤷) 😊

I have been doing these "strange things" since I was on elementary school and now I'm 40 I still didn't get rid of it. Some things disappear but sometimes new things pop up. The one I dislike most is that I can not inhale air while I look at a person, whether in real life or on tv or a picture. I can only look at someone if I exhale. Very annoing when talking to someone. Afraid if I look at a person and inhale, I inhale bad things of that person. This often gives me hyperventilation because I don't breath right. And everything I do has to be an even number, I don't like uneven numbers. A lot of times I have to touch things an even number and again....and again...multiply by another even number. And if people talk while I do I have to start over again, no talking allowed when doing so....which makes me angry a lot when people do talk. Wish I wake up one day and these handlings are just vanished out of my mind....

Harm OCD really sucks the life out of people. I hate it when people generalize OCD to washing hands and counting and all. For God's sake, please educate yourself. There are several types of OCD, some of them being harm ocd, homosexual ocd, suicidal ocd which are classified as Pure O, as they do not have any obvious compulsions to their intrusive thoughts, but the compulsions are limited to the mind. I suffer from Harm OCD and the only thing I am grateful of is that my prior knowledge in psychology helped me understand what is happening to me and get some perspective to my situation a week after I had my first panic attack came. If that would have not happened, I would have convinced myself that I was a murderer, which I am obviously not. Harm OCD attacks those who are really calm and harmless people in real life, and the end of those harmful thoughts are loved ones, parents, boyfriends girlfriends, elderly and sometimes strangers. My thoughts send me in a spiral and really emotionally exhaust me. Sometimes I think that I am a bad person and maybe I will harm someone. But other times by watching some therapists videos explaining that that's how OCD manifests and attacks, I calm myself down. I understand that, too, is a form compulsion which I shouldn't be doing to get better, but you need to understand that the thoughts feel really real, hence the extreme anxiety. I hope no one ever experiences the devil of OCD, and if someone is going through this, please know that we are not alone, we have help available and there are many people who suffer from this. We are one, and we will overcome this one day. Peace.

@@mefisth8678 Yea if you really do have it and have it bad you'd probably be less proud of having and more annoyed lol. There are some that may have mild cases however there's a fine line between being organized and having a disorder. Everyone wants to feel included and have the same shortcomings as everyone else nowadays so they can feel "real" or so that their accomplishments stand out even more in their life but you can't go around falsely claiming these hardships it's messed up. Imagine someone falsely claiming they had cancer or something very fatal. I'm not comparing the two that was simply an example of false claims.

It all depends on which things you do and what you mean by a regular basis. Thinking that you forgot to lock the door or turn something off every once in awhile is not the same as clearly remembering yourself doing it but still having to checking it before moving on. Counting stairs as you walk down or up them every once in a while is not the same as counting them in a specific way every time, like how she counts them in threes (I count in fives that must add up to a multiple of ten, my tens must add up to multiples of fifty, etc.). The really telling one is near the end about wanting to commit violence. What she means is not just thinking you are so mad at someone you want to harm them (like your boyfriend cheated on you). It means (in my case anyway) I will be just sitting watching TV with my wife (who I love and would never harm), nephew or niece (ditto), friend or really anyone else and I will think "What would it be like to just kicked them as hard as I can in the face right now" for no reason whatsoever. They have not said or done anything to anger me, the thought just comes out of nowhere. Or, like the driving one, I will be driving and see a car coming on and think "What if I just turned into them right now". I have no other thoughts that some might say are suicidal and do not want to end my life any time sooner than need be, but those thoughts still come into my head out of the blue. So many people say they have OCD when in fact they just have quirks.

I don’t want to self diagnose but here is what I’m dealing with : when I wake up in the morning I randomly get out of bed and I have to do 20 squats or else my cat will die , if I can’t run to the toilet and back in 10 seconds I will die , when I turn the light off I have to do it exactly 10 times or something bad will happen to me , when I get out of my house I have super strong anxiety because I feel like I forgot something so I have to go back to check , if I stub my left toe I have to go back and stub my right toe , I can’t sit still my legs are always shaking if they’re not it just isn’t right , when I cross the road I have thoughts about getting run over or sudden thoughts to go in the kitchen and cut my finger off , also it may sound so weird but I have thoughts about me wanting to have cancer ( that’s really messed up ) And probably even more random stuff that I don’t even think is weird because these happen to me everyday . I think that there might be a possibility that something’s wrong .
