Over a century ago people used birch bark like we use post cards. They were sent through the mail according to one source I read. I tried it once, but it must have been chewed up by a sorting machine, or lost, or crumbled. It never arrived at its destination. People did what they had to do with the tools at hand. A much more peaceful time.

Always a joy to see the sun shining through the woods. 💚 The creeks looking like dark roasted coffee, I can almost smell the leaves and the pine needles & the crisp air. This video made my evening! Especially the birch trees. It reminded me of clearing out my grandparents property in Harrisville on Lake Huron. We were only three lots down from the state park. Oooo that looks so fun!!! I know what you mean about sitting still sometimes. I was in Montana as a child, and sometimes nature just takes your breath away. Once, I walked up the valley behind the house, looked up at the pines in the snowy sky, and actually heard them whispering! It was so wonderful, there was nothing to do but just stop and listen to what sounded like God's voice, filled with awe!

Just an aside…. I live in a small town. Power went out early 2/2/23. My neighbors are in their 80’s and their house is all electric. My loan of my buddy heater made their day! I have learned so much about acknowledging the blessings I have from camp Whipple! Bless Brook and Dave!!!!

We live in extreme NE California and most of our roads are rural Forest Service roads. Since watching your videos I look at the forest differently! I see great spots for debris shelters and know I could make one! Of course, I'm 75 and disabled but you never know!
