Yeah. Back In college I listened to be so good so they can't ignore you. And decided not to pursue the automobile field rather go to the Software development industry. Sort of life style career planning , anyways I am feeling very happy about the career and lifestyle it brought.

Great. I finally find your channel. Thank you, Prof.Newport. Your work (Deep Work) contributed to my life during my PhD program in 2019-2022. I just earned my PhD in July.

After i read "digital minimalism" and "deep work" this concept of Deep Life ist the logical consequence. Finding more value in life by living a deep life, now i really know how to approach that. Thanks a ton, Mr Newport! :-)

Love the concept! -I think in the Eastern culture this is called “Ikigai” (even though it’s not the same as deep life). - The closest things to Deep Life are the “Lifebook Online” course from Jon and Missy and Life OS course from August Bradley (his YT videos are s good!). One observation i have after reading so many books about these topics is that Western philosophy tends to focus more on “planning” (Start with Why, Start with end in mind…) while Eastern philosophy is more about “Discovering” (Ikigai, “Chanda” in Iddhipada 4). Excited about this deep life concept!

I love your observation. I think western cultures value control and dominance whereas eastern cultures value harmonizing with the forces of nature (like a karate master telling his students to utilize their opponent’s force)

Thanks for referencing those other sources. I haven't heard of lifebook before. I see the course is $500, have you done it? Would you recommend?

Cal, you describe exactly what I have been feeling for quite some time. Thank you so much for laying out this approach, I'll get on it straight away.

Man, this video just reminds me of how my entire life has been lived completely haphazardly in an ADHD nightmare. Yeah I accomplished some awesome things in ice skating and in music, beyond what most of my friends have done. But oh man was it a nightmare at the same time. Really looking forward to going through this process. I knew I needed a change, but I just didn't know how to do it.

I hope you're writing a book on your "Deep Life' philosophy. Your status a NYT bestselling writer will be crucial to making this deep philosophy mainstream. This video has set my mind racing on how to approach my own journey through life. Thank you for publishing this Cal. Thank you very much.

17:15 what would be even better is that instead of viewing it as a dreadful activity, one shifts his thinking to have fun, thus being able to use instincts like laziness and procrastination instead of resisting them. Imagine if you could train the things you procrastinate with to be productive. Ex: I'm learning Japanese and my procrastination is scrolling through Japanese yt shorts instead of reading a novel.

I like your content and appreciate the message. As a long-time Richmond resident, I do wince at how many folks are moving here from DC and hiking up the prices of everything because of remote work salaries in more expensive places. :( I don't doubt your friends are sweet people, but that story hit home!

Somehow money corrupts, when you start earning money no matter what's your intention in the beginning, it will bound to change, Cal in the beginning is sincere in full potential of learning, now he is trying to make a band " Deep " deep this and that, it's his brand easy to understand but the thing not talked about is the financial gain and motivation by doing this, well you need to think deep to conjure that up.

Cal seems authentic and as uncorrupted by money as anyone. Not sure I see this.
