Al Cherny from the Tommy Hunter Show on CBC TV in Canada. Al was a guest on Sun Country, a TV show out of Edmonton Alberta on CFRN CTV, that I was the fiddler on. Ian Tyson was the host. Al passed away only a few years after this. He was a dear friend. You fiddle fans in Canada will remember Al. My look has changed over the years as well. I had a yellow fiddle.

I actually worked briefly with Al Cherny - when I had replaced Donna Ramsay as the female vocalist in Dallas Harms' band, Shiloh in the early '70s. We band members worked on the demos of Dallas' songs - and the session players that Gary Buck hired for these demo sessions were Red Shea, Al Brisco, Ollie Strong, John, Arpin - and Al Cherny. I remember when Al had to fit a comprehensible bit of 'The Sailors' Hornpipe' into Dallas' song, "Old Ira Grey" into one bar - and the (mock) temper tantrum he threw at getting only that one bar to solo in. It was hilarious. "Is that it ?!? Is that all I get ?!? One bar ?!? I'm a card-carrying Union member, and I know my rights !! I want more - MORE, I tell you. Wahhh !!!" But he and Al Brisco gave me some of the best professional/musical advice I ever got - and I've never forgotten either of them.

This video just never gets old. Two of the worlds best by far. Just idling here too, sandbagging would be an absolute understatement! 😁😁. Such crazy talent!! Cheers! Justin.

If that ain't great fiddlin' a pig's butt ain't pork. Love the Canadian and Cape Breton fiddlin'. If you can't tap your toes to that, call the funeral home because you is "daid".

On the Hunter show he very seldom played the fiddle...he was used for comedy routines more than as a fiddler.
