@JGB_Wentworth3 жыл бұрын
My theory would be that with a flat surface, you can clearly see the well defined tiny area you’re in. When the walls are jagged and create lots of shadows there is the illusion or even actual possibility that there is more space than if the walls were smooth due to the increased surface area of the walls.

It's kind of one step at a time. We didn't just end up in difficult caves. We've been doing this awhile and know how to approach each situation. The basic rule is if you don't fit in a passage you don't fit. It's not that easy to get stuck. If the passage goes downhill we back in feet first. If it's super tight we usually leave and come back with tools as well as other people. Or we just go home and think about it and make a plan. We also have cameras on robots that we can send inside a passage to ensure its basic safety.

I keep hearing about this other guys videos but you know we are too busy caving! There's a lot of videos out there that are based on fake fear and drama. Even though what we do is crazy we try to be fairly straightforward about the process. There's no need for the truth to be embellished.

When I watched the JJ documentary I got really scared of caves cuz I also once was stuck in a cave that the exit was covered by heavy snow (our entire group spent 2 hours to dig ourselves out) However the more I watched the videos and learned, I became less anxious. Love your videos! Stay safe ☺️

I am a former caver from Kentucky. My days of crawling on my belly as my back scrapes the cave ceiling are long over and I feel thankful to still be living. Even if I were thin like I was then, there’s no way. The thought of these really tight caves terrifies me now. Maybe it’s the John Jones story that was the tipping point for me.

This is one of the gnarliest caves I’ve seen you guys do. If for no other reason than I could HEAR the lava rocks ripping you & your clothes up with each reach. Well done.
@CalvinHikes7 ай бұрын
That cave sucked. That was a painful painful adventure. Not so much because of the cave, but because we hiked like four miles in the ice and snow... And on the way out, after we were scraped up and tired and already cold, we had to make the hike back through the snow and ice in darkness. But we lived! I wasn't sure of a few times. But we lived.
@miketausig42057 ай бұрын
@@CalvinHikes I remember you guys hiking in, but I hadn’t even thought about you having to hike out all ripped up and physically spent. Those lava rocks not only rip your clothes up but they really sap you of energy, as every pull and slide of the body has to be done so much more carefully. Certainly glad you guys made it out with only bumps and bruises though😉
