Ingredients:
Grated coconut - 1 big
Urad dal - 4 tbsp
Dry red chillies - 2 handfuls
Tamarind - Lemon sized
Whole black pepper - ½ tsp (Optional)
Asafoetida / Hing - 1 tbsp
Curry leaves - 2 handfuls
Salt
Oil
Steps:
Heat a heavy bottomed pan and add grated coconut, urad dal, dry red chillies, pepper and curry leaves.
Stir continuously.
Sauté until the coconut starts to turn golden.
Then add tamarind, split into small pieces.
Sauté till the coconut turns golden.
Lower the flame and add asafoetida.
Mix well and switch off. Remove it to a plate.
Once cool, transfer it to mixie jar and add salt.
Powder coarsely.
Transfer it to a clean dry container and store it in room temperature.
Use a dry spoon to serve. Enjoy with hot rice.
