It feels like bowl games have surpassed "meaningless bowl games". It feels like they're actually worse for you team/program and that needs to be discussed... Take this as an example. Oklahoma made a bowl game and lost, since then it's been a complete disaster. Whereas Auburn didn't make a bowl game and they feel pretty good about their outlook. Now Alabama fans are quick to point out that Oklahoma had a depleted roster and only played freshman. My point is that Oklahoma gained nothing out of that bowl game win or lose, and would've been much better off not even playing it. TLDR it feels like bowl games are evolving past player opt outs and might move towards team opt outs.

I was at the game and it was a great experience as a whole and the atmosphere was great and fun. Of course it was upsetting to lose but in the long run this was needed. If I didnt see Emory play then I would have had hope for him to do well next year as our starter. But now we know that he is clearly not the guy and now we have time to go and get someone from the portal. Cam Ward saved our season and made us happy finally. I wish i knew he would quit halfway through the game but still im not upset with him and Im glad we saw Emory play.

My issue with the decision is that it appears he only played the first half to set the record, then opted out to save himself potential injury. I don't know if I would have done anything different, but it really is the definition of selfish here. Played to get a personal record and then let the team fail without him once he had his. As a Canes fan who sat in the orange bowl and watched that 2001 team, I was grateful to watch him suit up and give us one more great half of football. Does it suck what Bowl games have become? Yes, but the guy was nothing but a consummate professional throughout his time at Miami and delivered the best season by a QB that we have seen in decades. Without Cam Ward, the 2024 Canes are a 6-7 win team. While I would have loved to see him play the 2nd half as well, I respect that Cam did what him and his agents thought was best for him.

If bowl games are going to be viewed as nothing more than a preview of the next season, they should be moved to the summer and billed as pre-season exhibition games. As long as bowls are played at the end of the season, fans rightfully want their team to win. Any player who opts out or pulls the sort of stunt Cam Ward pulled should have their NIL payment docked accordingly or heck, just fine them like they do in the NFL for refusing to play.

Playing 1 half make sense because you put your team in the ideal postion as the starter. However, the TEAM needs to know how their QB of next year will be. He needed to be tested out in tough situations. Cam won't be here next year, Lots of miami fans thought Emory (back up QB) was a Great QB. Because of that 2nd half we found out he clearly is not. I'm glad we found that out in this game (that meant nothing) rather than week 1 of next year. The point of 2nd half was the to assess our offense for next season. So it did make sense for the future of MIAMI

Josh missed an important point here. Cam Ward was willing to play in the game as long as he needed to boost his personal stock. He broke the passing TD record for that reason. At half, when it became entirely about the team, he wasn't willing to fight for them. I would honestly prefer if he sat out the entire thing rather than pad your stats and then leave as soon as they're sufficiently padded.

He watched as his team struggled and then lost, which wouldn't have happened had he played the 2nd half. As a Miami fan, the problem was the messaging. If they said Cam will play to break a record, then I say good for him. But, everyone was saying he was playing because he’s a competitor and wants to go out on top. Not a single person suggested he’d sit at the half. So it was confusing and frustrating because it looked like we weren’t really committed to finishing the season with 11 wins.

The fact he quit after he got his record makes it ten times worse, and very difficult to defend. Extremely selfish to let your team lose after getting your personal record. NFL GMs won't care because they'll pretend that his decision won't affect his play in the NFL where there will be a ton of incentives to play as much as possible, but these GMs would be fooling themselves because while there will be plenty of financial incentives to play, nevertheless character flaws like this come out in all kind of funny little ways. You don't want a "me first" guy like that leading your team. You see it all the time in the NFL, QBs doing just enough to earn a big contract and then - poof! - they play like dirt.

i get why people are mad saying he let his teammates down, but honestly he’s carried the team so hard all season. they would’ve never been in the conversation for the playoffs if it wasn’t for him. not many of the other players for miami are draft ready whereas he could definitely be a first round pick. he played great the first half but their defense kept isu in the game. the backup couldn’t do anything and they had to rely on the run but once again their defense couldn’t do anything and lost them the game essentially. he was still on the sideline looking excited for his teammates. i think he did everything he possibly could all season to give his team the best season possible

As a Canes fan I'm more worried about coaching and Emory than Cam Ward sitting. Also he was great to the guys all season. He stayed positive and was more involved and vocal than any of the Vets on the team all season. I watched every single game. Most people don't even realize Martinez and Fletcher were sat after Martinez was hurt a bit. Martinez had 179 yds.

See I disagree. If they keep score, it means something. I fully believe also that the media and the fans have pushed the whole it doesn't mean anything narrative. So the players in large part have adopted that mindset too. Which is unfortunate. If I was running CFB, I would stop all the bowl games. That way this would not be a problem. As that is the mindset today. Why even play them. But as a CFB fan though, I would hate it because we wouldn't get more football outside of the 12 team playoff. I would kill the bowls but it would make me sad to do it if I was running the CFB.
