My buddy did this same tank 2mo ago. It works. His car runs close to 10deg cooler all the time and when he makes a pull and slows back down, you instantly see the Temps start to lower. He has a ported blower, cam, etc.

Nice! I need a new laptop and download HP tuners so something, not to tune but to monitor. I think Banks makes a monitor too I could get and verify all this.

You can clearly see his guage is several deg lower and watch it return to a cooler temp fast after making a pull. We are drag racers not road coarse racers. We both have zl1 cars. His is a 1le manual and mine is a standard z with an A10. Both cars are modded except I have a Maggie 2650 and he has the kong X port. Both cam cars, etc. Nice install video. And nice ride, too.

@@mjc3502 o nice. Guess I never really paid attention to it. Like 99% of cars they never seem to move and are so generic I figured it just stays still. Have to watch now doing pulls. I like the kong port. LMP picked up like 40 wheel with no tune or maybe more like 60. I’ll definitely need to monitor things like AFR because I have an intake and no second cats. Port plus a TB I might be in trouble. Wish more people were around here! Miss back home having friends over to do garage stuff.

@mjc3502 sounds good but what about the heat from the engine if they are make the water in the tank hot too ?? I have zl1 1le with kong ported blower and already with heat exchanger But I want to try fender tank bc its not in the hot engine and it's colder place too

@@hythekiller this tank is small.and limited. He has coolant in it, not water. Yes, it helped him by 9- 10 ged but there are much better ones that will do a better job. Late modle performance makes their own and it will out do this small one, easy.

Thx for covering the radiator coolant tanks. Mine system was 1 gallon low from the factory wtf. So I thought I had a leak but I don't after filling both and refilling after running in.. Top completely full and lower half full. The lower does have two small holes open to atmosphere so evap does happen slowly. Would love to hear how the Cordes tank has worked over time.

So far no issues. It’s sealed unlike the supercharger tank so my guess it’ll be a none issue. So weird though they did that on the oem ones. Must be a pressure a thing

I worked at GM for 31 years ... last 20 were at Flint doing emission compliance tests and tsb's for dealerships. That engine 'cooler' you described is not a cooler at all. It was designed to warm and stabilize engine oil temp for the federal emission test. In short... faster warmups helped in passing the federal tailpipe/emission test. Anyway...It's an 'oil temp stabilizer'. Think you pretty much figured that out. .

This is to old for my brain, you talking about the little water/oil cooler that’s bolted to the side of the engine pan called an oil cooler by GM? Or we talking about another??

Yes... the one bolted to side of pan...

If you can make that work going from the oem component to the aftermarket. This is slightly easier though.

@@chrisworth4265 I’m not sure. Been to long since I looked. I’m sure it’s a special connection too. It’s like a slip fit with a C clamp holding it.

Very informative video and it might be a mod I’ll consider on my ZLE. What’s your opinion on adding an oil catch can to these LT4s if tracking the car a few times a year? Btw the wheels look great!

Thanks and thanks! My opinion on the catch can is they aren’t aloud. Unless it’s a sealed system. Most I’ve seen have a breather and that’s a direct access of oil onto the track or engine for a fire. There is an issue of not having one of course because we are not port injection and direct injection but I don’t think it’s as bad as people think. You can always clean it all out later either by hand or sea foam etc. someone showed a motor the other day with 100k and the valves were very clean!

Way to go Chevy Engineering at it finest where all they had to do was have the actual fill coolant tank on top for easy access.

Our new Miata isn’t any better. Have to do the same with a new metal tank because the NC uses a pressurized tank where the plastic tank cracks and leaks and leaves you stranded.

you don't need the cords tank to bleed the system. You can use the valve on top just like he did in this video with out the tank. But the tank does help with monitoring and bleeding the system over all.
