P.S everybody- not here to argue. When I talk about weight I'm referencing it compared to a Mustang GT of 2013 (this ZL1 was a 2012 year) Mustang GT base model- 3,483 lbs Camaro ZL1-3,750 lbs Just diffusing people comment wars start happening since the new Mustang is heavier than the previous generation. I love my '13 ZL1. I have had many hotrods, and this one is just ridiculously fab. FOR THE MONEY, you can't beat it. Sure the new Z28 might be impressive - but it is no daily driver (and ridic expensive by comparison).This is a Great daily driver or race car. And dudes are always trying to FCK with it (mostly in 5.0 Mustangs or SRT8 Challengers) and they get embarrassed every time. It drives amazing, brakes amazing, handles dreamy, but when you STOMP IT, you'd better hold on. There is no SS, no 5.0, no SRT8 (I had a Challenger SRT8) no nothing that compares overall. (OVERALL). Sure, you can nitpik little things here and there - as you can with any car.FIRST THING any ZL1 owner should do - GET RID OF THOSE AWFUL GOODYEAR F1 Tires. They are horrible. Even new tires, awful. Swap out the tires asap - or you will find your self spinning around into a ditch without even trying. Even with traction control, those tires cannot handle this car.I personally put Nitto Invo's on mine (315 on rear/ 295 front). A LIFETIME of improvement, control, safety compared to the F1's. No lie.Love the brakes, BUT, they shed dust all over the wheels in no time. So, swap out the pads for ceramic pads (I did Hawk brand pads). Problem solved.Also, the splash guards on the fenders are not good enough. You will sling road debris all over this car (especially with the horrendous Goodyear F1 tires) Anyone who poo-poos this car has NEVER driven one. Simple as that. I have driven them all, GT500, SRT8, no comparison at all. Not even close (as an overall sport car).There are fewer ZL1's on the road, so you get noticed by REAL gearheads. Sure, the Challenger looks cool and all, but not even close to this car as an overall sport vehicle. I personally think the newer Mustangs look too futuristic compared to this. Even the 2016-17 Camaro looks a wee bit too "spacey" for me.I drove a GT500. Sure it's "nice" and all. But overall, does not compare. And I was considering the GT500 before I found a ZL1. It is nowhere close to the same. Anywho, I might be biased, but as a previous owner of an SRT8, and test-drove a GT500 (open-mindedly), none of those cars compare overall.Get the 315 width tires on the rear, put you some extended splash-guards/mudflaps, and get rid of the Goodyear F1 tires, so you don't cringe every time you hear road debris spattering all over your baby. And blow away every flippin moron who thinks this car is 'just' some SS. (Happens to me at least 3X a week)
@godsaveamerica26118 жыл бұрын
If I had to choose between a GT500 and a ZL1, Hands down I'd choose the GT500. It should cost less and give about 90hp more (@667hp) and it's 2/3 of a sec faster in the 1/4 mile. Sure it doesn't handle anywhere as good on a road course but most people don't track their cars and even fewer would even race along side another car. I race along side people every chance I get on the highway or from the light and the gt500 is a car I would love to do that in. Don't get me wrong If I owned a 580hp supercharged 6.4L V8 monster, it would put a huge smile on my face.
@HorsepowerHouse8 жыл бұрын
They are both basically the same price. And if your only reason for buying "anything" is because of its horsepower - you know very little about anything, my man. There will always be "something" more powerful. But for a daily driver, and a race car, you cannot argue with what the ZL1 does. I drove the ZL1, GT500 and SRT8. All "nice" cars. But the Z runs circles around them for everyday driving as well as racing. The brakes and suspension alone destroy the GT500. I tried it. I know. There is nothing better than having all of that in one vehicle that few people own as well. Rare to even see a ZL1 on the road. But I see tons of GT500's and SRT8's. I prefer rare and still badass. GO drive them all and get back to me. Until you actually drive them - you have nothing to say. Goodbye.
@HorsepowerHouse8 жыл бұрын
How often do you go to a drag strip with your car... (never) thanks for playing.
@godsaveamerica26118 жыл бұрын
+David Harris exceptional brakes suspension really only good on the track. In normal driving even at fast speeds they mean nothing. The gt500 will beat it well from light to light or in a roll on the highway (no dragstrip you're not a good reader/listener I take it) which is what most people care about. I mean just look at the tons of videos real car owners upload on KZbin. As a daily driver, how can it be better? Visibility is very bad, I mean very bad. Tolerable, yes, since there are a lot of 5th gen owners, but that alone makes it not a pleasant drive and I've driven the SS and because of the poor visibility, it wasn't worth getting use to since I own the mustang GT so I abandoned driving it after 15 minutes while my cousin constantly wants to drive my mustang. Better daily driver? I don't know what criteria, you or some reviewers are basing. Better visibility, faster, more power, lighter, more exciting experience (watch the comparison video from a British perspective). Nuff said.
@HorsepowerHouse8 жыл бұрын
Until you have driven them all, you really have no comment to make. I have driven them all, and I know what I like. If you don't like a good car, that is up to you. If you only go on horsepower numbers, and what you think is pretty, that is on you. But to go on what performs best for the money, you can't beat it. Simple as that. Nothing more to be said. Go drive them all, and then comment on it with some educated terms. I personally don't give a damn what some other reviews says. I go on what I feel on my own. If you care to just read something and swear it is Gospel, that is on you as well. But if you actually test it yourself, and feel the same, that is also your opinion. But just going on what you see and hear without feeling it yourself, that is called an uneducated opinion.

I rented the SS convertible not long ago around Arizona and it really did feel great. The interior was much better than I expected too. There is leather on most common places (seats, arm rest, steering wheel, shifter, etc.) and although there are a couple of hard surfaces, it's much better than most Mustangs and older muscle cars. The visibility due to the thick pillars, big mirrors and thin window openings is something you get used to and with the top off, it's really sweet. It sounds and pulls great and it does 2000 rpm until about 80 mph so the engine and exhaust are very quiet when you're not revving high. Being able to pass cars on the highway while In 5th or 6th at under 2000 rpm is pretty silly and you really don't realize how fast you're accelerating unless you shift manually and let it go into the higher RPM. The HUD interface is also great, you really don't need to check your dash at all while you drive. It's a really nice car and with some weight reduction it'll be even better.
