$500 is considered a lot in Cambodia. But if you're coming from a western country, this might be a little hard. My first month was more than double that! Check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKiQdn2nfZijfdk

I’m Canadian living in Cambodia on the countryside which cost us $250US and my wife helps her dad and mom for another $250US. So it depends where you live in Cambodia.

A 'western' lifestyle makes it more difficult for people used to that life. A very frugal American I've seen says a very ''comfortable'' life can be had for $700 - $800 / month in Siem Reap. Others have said it's easy to have plenty of money left over on a $1000 / month budget. -?- Whatever that means ? --- It really all depends on ones lifestyle choices - rentals choices ac use food selections transportation choices travel decisions smoking drinking dating entertainment......... Sounds like many really like living there ? Haven't heard anybody that dislikes the place ? People are generally awesome and reported to be some of the friendliest in the world ! --- Also heard many expats live there on $900 / month. --?--

Coming from the US and living there only - for 70 years - might make it impossible to live there on $500/mo. ? -- I expect closer to $900 or so being a frugal life by my normal standards. -- Good thing I have $1500/mo. to work with ? Gives me $1200 -- $1300 - if needed - & still be able to have some savings. -?-
@MoconutLife
@MoconutLife 6 ай бұрын
I know a lot of people who can make it work under $500/mo. because they live outside the city center and eat where locals eat, so it's definitely possible. However, I also know a lot of people who spend over $10k to sustain their lifestyle in Cambodia. It all really depends on the person. Lifestyle creep is real. But discipline is the true power.

@@MoconutLife -- Thank you very much for the response and extra info. -- Knowing the difference between a want and a need is key in my opinion. -- I am retired & used to frugal with some comfort. My '''goal''' will be to get by on about $750/mo. as often as possible out of my $1500/mo. income. Future health care in old age will likely require some extra care ? A couple cheap 1 hour flights / year to Bangkok for some fun and quality medical check ups. -- ? -- My desire is to buy a 3 wheel Bajaj RE tuk tuk for personal transport / out of the rain & sun to carry groceries and 'exploring' SR + local area. Would make living outside city center easier & allow for cheap rent ! -- Hope it's doable ???

listen: i lived in PI and thailand for years. into my 50s. i had a retirement visa. spend time in cambodia. IF you are from the west and you want (need) the following: a girlfriend (or other) AC western food go out say NO more than 2 or 3 times a month. cheap local beer. and here it is never mentioned: a good international medical plan than this $500 is BS. we can talk budget all day. $500 is click bait so you click the story and this person numbers go up on YT for revenue, ratings. a realistic minimum for a westerner. AC, decent small apt, food, going to a non asian restaurant every so often. $1700/ Int. medical insurance depending on what you get, deductible, age, ect..for someone in their 50s is going to be at least $220-$260 per month. OR you can lay in a thai government hosptial and a 75yoa doctor that does not speak 5 words of english will make you death or life medical decisions for you. OR you go with your insurance to bangkok international or bumrungrad. maybe one 1 or two of these "retire on $99 a month" clickbait videos do i hear medical insurance spoken of. moped, girls and housing. but IF you need cardiac surgury...dont worry the thai government will foot the bill. i would say, at least $1600 to $1800 (or course, plus, if you want) is a median for decent, basic living and going on. then again what city and where. i would say hua hin..this can do good. you can not do this bangkok. or IF you want to eat cambodian soup 29 nights a month. click bait video, little else.
