Art and Production Art are different beasts to most, youre correct, make sure your production breakdown is well understood, pre, during and post job, saves so much stress,. When done then the confidence and ease of performing brushwork is free and fun... Good luck, stick to it...

Not wax or glue,... Most brushes were sized, been pin striping, sign painting/ billboards for over 50 years...my grandfather and mother and father were signwriters and movie artists. My grandfather in the 1960 started showing me to letter and stripe. At 17 met Big Daddy, then Von Dutch... I appreciate your instruction and shared experiences,.. not everyones cup of tea, but some of us drink well from it

Thanks buddy love ur video. Not sure how to get that wizard vortex scroll. Can you give me more info on that. I'm just getting back to pin striping after being retired. I am now 77 yrs. Old a little rustic, but so excited picking it up again. I was so interested in the scroll brush, always had a problem with the scroll work. My trade name is Cap Stripes. Personally known as Happy. Love this profession, also a sign lettered.

Mackie, since your focused on that Mack ,I’ll tell you an old secret , I started with that nasty thing and used to cut about a 1/4 inch from the bottom, and make a round cut on the top, and like magic I could do loops and curves , it led me to design the original scroll brushes, if you’d like I can do a drawing of what the cuts look like. It opens up an entire new world. Hope this helps you and your viewers. Motor oil is not natural to any animal hair…

Sweet! Ive been wanting a good how to on this, some of my brushes are just not right compared to others. I picked up a #0 Vortex after your recommendation I an earlier video and love it, I have a #1 Typhoon as well and its just as nice I think. Have you tried any Kafka scrolling brushes? I picked up a set with #3,5, and 6 they have a much more blunt tip which is nice for noobs like me but you need to clean em for at least half an hour! Sooo much wax. I'm glad to see this, Thank you sir!

TnTcyclesPDX glad you like it bro. I could have made it MUCH shorter...and said "just trim it from the top" but thinking about it, there is so much more to it really. every brush is different, and there is no right formula. so I'm hoping this helps a little.

there are a lot of videos, and that's all they do! For beginners that's not quite enough, seeing the issues was everything. I just kept trying to go more vertical with the swordliners at the start to get rid of the point, kept thinking it was me because 2 of my 3 were doing it. Now I can see what the problem is.

Can't find any Kafka scrollers in UK, and import from the USA is just silly money for a brush... But I will get one one day! And the Typhoon is just as nice as the Vortex. Still want to try the Wizard Black Widow series...

Thanks yet again I use warm soapy water to get the stuff off the brush first then turps it comes off easy then ? Don't know if it's right but it seems to work ? Really great info as per. Reading other comments you can get all Kafka brushes from jacksons art shop. He recommends the #3 scroller first and it's perfect out of the box. Well that's what I think for what it's worth lol. Thanks for the advice you gave me on the thickness of the paint I've been practising and you seem to be that good at what you do you were dead on thanks mate. Can't wait for more 🥃🥃👴🏻♿️

Thank you so much another awesome vid and just what was looking for. I just bought a series 10. My first attempt was with a series 20 on glass. Too fucking hard! Jesus it just would not make a turn and I gave up. I don't know if this is already a thing or not but I've bought a pack of high gloss photo print paper - it's coated in a glossy layer which is pretty close to a painted surface. Maybe a touch more grippy, but that makes it easier for a beginner to practice on. It works out at 10-15p a sheet, and is really convenient for practice drills and doing terrible beginners designs that need to be hidden in the bin!

Hey brother, thank you for the series. I’ve just got here because I’m airbrushing a helmet that will have some text on the front and I’m going to give it a shot on stripping it. I’ve bought a Kafka script liner 0, a Kafka stripper brush 0, and a Mack green ferrule 00 (i think) but have a couple questions. You mention you use motor oil and, in my humble experience airbrushing, I’m petrified on putting oil within a mile radius from my paint! Can i use linseed oil instead? On the solvent many pinstripers use mineral spirits, what if i use xylene? To clear over the striping, I’ve read you can add the same gardener from the clear into the enamel and that would prevent it from reacting to the clear. Is that true? If so, how long would you cure the enamel before clear over it? I’m using one shot enamel for this project and high grade automotive urethane clear. Please let me treat you to a brush you want from here. You’ve been so helpful I’ll send you one. Just PM me your address so i can get it going. Thank you!

Hey man, I've been using motor oil and never had any issues, just make sure you clean that brush in white spirit before using it again. Not used anything else so cannot comment. Yes, you can use hardener to mix with enamel, just few drops and you should be good to roll. It changes paint consistency, so watch out. Let it cure as long as you can, 24hrs at least, still be very careful, go light with first couple of clear coats before you go heavy. Hope that helps.

Stay away from xylene, and some brushes if you use soap and water ruins the hairs, they get wompity... Plus, remember fat on lean principle...

Do you think a toothbrush would help to get the residue off? Oh I heard they use hair gel? Do you think that’s true? Make so much sense but I have no clue. This was from another comment form another video. I’m wondering if it would come off with warm water and a toothbrush? I don’t have any mineral spirits right now and the dang coronavirus makes it hard to get stuff. What 3 brushes would you recommend if you could only have 3 for life? And I’m gonna go buy them :) Thanks for the video by the way, fantastic. The camera could have been better at up close shots but that’s not your fault. Thanks for the expertise and information! Oh one last question. My passion is watercolor. Do you think these will work well with watercolor? And if there’s one you think mig he work better with watercolor I’m all ears. Thanks again! Keep up the great videos.

Warm water and soap will get it off a treat, yes. No toothbrush needed ;) When it comes to brushes, man, you need to experiment and it all depends on your style and what you want to do. And finally, water base won't have so much coverage and durability as enamel, so not for this application, but it is better for other style, so fill your boots buddy :)

Professional brush makers make these brushes, and except for the occasional out of place hair they are shaped a specific way for a reason. Most good brushes are ready to go right out the package, once you clean the sizing out of them. I don't understand why complete amatures think they need to ( or even think they can) reshape a pinstriping dagger or outliner, or a scrolling brush before they even learn to use it. 🤯
