Summary. Thank you for making this video. 1. write it down (the new and interesting word) keep a notebook either online or physical copy and include it in your list 2. write the word in a sentence, incorporate the word in a new context rather than the one you read it in, or include notes of the context the new word you heard/ read it in, include words that are similar to the new word 3. relate new words to personal life in some way: connect it with experiences in your life, describe experiences, use it to connect to family, people around you, incorporate personal meaning to the new word. making it relevant to yourself. 4. some words that you hear repeated a lot, those are the important words you must absolutely try to remember, some words are not as significant (not all are equal) 5. repetition- review the new word over time, in the beginning, you will have to review it more to avoid forgetting it and to ingrain it in your mind as important, however, as time passes and you review it more, you can start spacing your reviewing time longer and longer (think of the Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve) i included this bit

I have been doing what this guy said for the past 5 years. I have a journal with just the most popular vocab I hear; I have collected popular vocab from TV shows, sports events, and stuff, and after that, I decide what phrases to pick and choose, because some phrases do not match my personality, for instance. Now I have about 450 something phrases, among phrasal verbs, collocations, and so on and so forth ...I'm thinking I'm not going to type more than 500 phrases. I type every phrase in context, and like he said, whenever possible I relate it to my life. A plus I must mention is that I have every single phrase linked to video clips, using that specific phrase I click on. What have I been doing during these past years? /I've been using the phrases in real conversations, when they come to mind; I also type them in the comments section of KZbin videos like this, and I watch the video clips of phrases almost every day, I also record myself practicing the shadowing technique, using those video clips. I would leave a copy of my journal, but it's very personal and there's a lot of work and time invested.

You could also show a word with a picture in order to use different types of memory. A learners would be able to play all its favourite words in the right order which would follow according to the statistic. Learners would choose a repeat option of pronunciation as well - how many times repeats the word in the playlist. You could be able to do the different types of exercises and to get a maximum of your learning.

Another thing to note in your notebook is take note of expression or words you want. You are likely a certain kind of person in your L1, you are going to need to rebuild something similar in your l2 if you want to express yourself naturally.

Imagine, you are reading a book in English on your phone and working with the new words from the book simultaneously. Every time when you come across a new word, you add it into the favourite list of the Dictionary. You have thousands words in the list, but how we could be able to know which words were the most popular? The dictionary had to count the frequency of our requests of every word. We can use a statistic in order to make an entertainment for learners.

I agree. It`s useful try find how use it by yourself. You can count words from text and check most of common first. Make a test how many new words you can remember overnight. It is your personal limit to memorize. Test it by making list and word with sentence. Which is better way.

The key is repetition over a longish time interval with long gaps so that it moves from short term memory into long term memory. Repeating a word, and it’s English translation, regularly over a couple of days might not be enough as it might still be in short term memory. Flash cards work well, and commercial ones can be bought for foreign languages.

Капитан очевидность в действии :) Для этого уже давно изобретены системы изучения языка, куда можно загнать текст (можно ещё и аудио), и, читая, добавлять слова в словарь, а потом штудировать. Либо просто прослушивать этот текст, читая в это время текст. Это, кстати, самый эффективный способ. А записывать слова в блокнот вам надоест не пройдёт и недели.

Except he didn't make a spelling mistake at all. He simply used the British English spelling because that's where he's from. It's just like Realize (US) and Realise (UK) Both are spelled "correctly" or "incorrectly" only according to their geographic usage and because the internet is not bound by geographic boundaries he's free (and expected) to use the spelling as it is commonly used according to his location and upbringing.

It is the best though. You might know your words when they flash up on anki but your understanding of them is vastly inferior to someone who has learned them through reading. There is science to prove this. The only thing better for retaining words is by actually using them yourself in real situations with natives who are patient with you. Again, this is science. As a side note, i learned over 23000 words in French in 6 months. Just from reading. That's over 120 per day. The crux ? I didn't read every day. You don't need to. Words don't come as you can check them off and file them away as done. You will be reading and suddenly there are dozens of words that make sense to you. It's accumulative and vastly superior to flashcards or stupid post-it notes or silly courses like Duolingo. Anybody with a fantastic (especially written) command of a foreign language is the vast majority of the time without fail a voracious reader.

Comparing reading to writing, the former is, IMHO, a passive method of learning new vocabularies. Writing own sentences is the most worthwhile method to memorize those words that you really need.
