Im also using WASD for camera movement, glad i found a bunch of players here do as well. Transitioning from mainly playing FPS games made me do this and now its a muscle memory. My keybinds setup are 1234 FG for skills, Q for attack, E for stop, Tab to select hero, T to select other units, Space to select all units, ZXCV ALT2 Mouse4 for items, ALT-1 for TP scroll, and ALT-Q,W,E,R for control groups. Also love you speeed for using the WASD keys as well. *wink wink*

For those who struggle to creep block and uses mouse to edge pan. Just double-tap and hold F1 (Select hero key) so your camera follow your hero.

I don't see many people talking about the select hero button. I have it on spacebar because, for one, it's a great panic button when you lose track of your hero while micro-ing, and you can double tap and hold to keep the camera centered on you while you are blocking creeps. This feature and mostly using the camera grip button gave me way more control than I had when I used to play with WASD.

This is super cool. I thought i was alone in using WASD camera controls. I really think that it gives greater control and precision in fights than pan does, regardless of skill level, but having 4 less hotkeys can also be detrimental depending on the heroes you want to play. 9:16 I agree with everything he says, except this. Having this option checked will cause out of positioning problems, if you misclick the creep, then your hero will move towards that direction. I believe it is better to leave it unchecked, that way the mouse is strictly for movement, and quick attack on key for last hits/deny.

Dude as someone who plays more action/adventure MMO's and RPGs than mobas like dota, this is so great of an idea. WASD for camera movement feels like second nature, and because 1-0 is usually the buttons assigned to skill bars by default in lots of other games, 6 is perfectly within my reach for heroes with numerous skills-- happy that you're bringing this idea to light with your platform

I personally don't use edge panning nor WASD. This is what I use, and it works perfect for all heroes, from Invoker to Meepo. Camera: Mouse3 (drag scroll with middle mouse button), you can use edge panning as well Abilities: QWERDF (default) Items: alt Q, alt W, alt E, alt A, alt S, alt D, S (tp scroll) Unit selection: 1 (hero), 2 (all other units), 3 (all units), F1-F4 (control groups), Tab (next unit) Courier/shop: alt 1 (deliver), alt 2 (select courier), alt 3 (buy TP), alt 4 (courier shield), T (shop), G (grab from stash), Space (purchase quick buy) Misc: Z (fortify), X (scan), C (toggle auto attack, never by default), ` (cancel action), H (taunt, most important), V (scoreboard), 4 (directional move, consider changing this to Mouse4 if you have it) Normal cast everything, except Meepo and Pangolier. Auto select summoned units except Phantom Lancer. I rarely ever use my pinky; my ring finger lays on Q, middle on W, index on E. Index finger does a lot of work.

camera grip changed my life, WASD and 1234 is hard reach for me. Here is my set up: Q W E R - main abilities D F - secondary abilities (D inventory if no secondary) C V SPACE 2 - inventory quick cast TAB X 3 - normal cast (double tab for self cast) A S - attack / HOLD (pressing hold = attack never A = attack always) T - Teleport 1 ~ 4 - select hero / select all / select summons mouse scroll UP/Down - select next /previous G Y - chat wheel

For creep blocking i would recommend left clicking on hero or hero portrait twice. The cam follows your hero if u do tht. Lotta pros use it.

HOLD POSITION was useful at that time the ranged heroes were great at jungling - you cut trees to get above a camp and you stand right in the spot where creeps turn back and you farm creeps without moving and taking any dmg. Luna, troll could outfarm lane carry in jungle. The option that is missing is METEOR HAMMER requires hold/stop, I make this mistake so many times in a middle of a fight, it could have cost me games.

personally i think edge pan is easily the worst option out of the three and i've heard other people say the same thing, i come from a background of playing RTS games so i was used to edge pan when i started playing dota but i tried wasd after hearing someone recommend it and i found it way better. So it has nothing to do with people being inexperienced with it or something it's just better so even if you've played for years i recommend trying wasd or at least camera drag

I use this but little diferent, Q - E - R - C - V - F for spells, Z for attack, X for cancel, 1,2,3, first items capslock, mouse 5 and mouse 4 for items also, T for teleport , all on quick-cast, tab for rotate selected units.

I'd run out of space for control groups, but it might work with some smart alt-binds. I've been using camera grip since way before Dota2 came out and I have no complaints. It's not great for all mice, you need a solid middle mouse or side button that's easy to reach.

I use WSAD from the day I started playing. Cancle action on X and then abilities on Q,E,R,F,T and 1,2,3,4, space and TAB for itimes. On minimap I have iscons too. Much more easy to spot someone.

Please make a video on how to bind attack move click to left click like in League of Legends & Heroes of the Storm, for some reason there is no easy way of doing this in Dota 2 which is kinda sad to see both these other 2 games having a superior way of choosing your binds/settings, a guide would really help a lot in that regard hence it seems necessary to use the console commands to do so

How is using your own ingrained standard movement keys for camera control not standard? Edge scrolling has always been a major factor that keeps me from playing this kind of game. It's simply slower and an unnecessarily awkward way to pan the camera. Now to absorb some of the other ideas and see how well they adapt to a left-hand keyboard layout. PS : ESDF allows you to have your treasured TAB move to A which is even more convenient.

Went to 4k with keyboard arrows to help move camera. I've become so quick changing from arrows to QWER etc keybinds. Then I just thought I better learn a new method because this one looked inefficient and switched to the classic one. It's still difficult to say if you are better off with the naturally developed method or by trying to maximizing the maximized one. Hell yeah, WASD for the camera, QERT for skills, mouse thumb buttons for skills 4 and 5, items are placed in slots by priority of Space bar, Z, X, 4 and 5, with boots always in Caps Lock. It's a much better way to play without having to jerk your mouse all over the place in order to see properly.

I played call of duty for years and switched to dota, I’ve wondered about this at times. I naturally got my commands to almost exactly your setup except swapping control groups to 1-3 and spells to F,R,caps,tab... I don’t play micro intensive heroes so never bothered with more than that. The big problem mine vs yours is I can’t really play invoker with 2 fingers (pinky/pointer) for spells.. you probably use edge panning when moving and invoker combos. In general I’m just surprised how many people don’t do this and have horrible camera placement (I mean I’m 3300mmr so me too probably but example just don’t move the camera at all for mid lane while half their camera looks at their own tower) v strange

Remap mouse 5 button to move camera. Use your thumb to hold the button down. Pretty useful. Best mouse for Dota 2 IMO is Logitech G502 because of those key features.

I’m al about whatever works for people. I could never imagine using wasd for camera. That being said see panning also sucks sometime. Thank god camera grip is a thing. When you addressed blocking creeps I also think edge panning is ass for blocking creeps and I see tons of people doing it even pros. I don’t understand why people don’t just hold the select hero button to center on your hero when you are blocking.

do this in your console: bindtoggle (button you want to lock onto your hero) dota_camera_lock. you can toggle camera lock on and off by pressing that button. if your console is not up go to your launch options for dota 2 and go to properties, type -console

personally i think your buttons for items and hotkeys are not great 6 is definitely to far and i find 5 even to be kinda uncomfortable, also for me pressing zxcvb etc. feels very awkward. I use WASD for camera. Abilities are q 2 e r m4 m5 items are 1 3 4 f g m3 attack move is alt+a stop is alt+s tp is t select hero is space f1 for units other than my hero f2 for all units I don't think this is perfect but think about it now using capslock for something would be nice

I play alot of ARPG's which some of them used WASD for movement ,and its easy to move around but most of them used Right click or left click for movement.I also played starcraft2 alot at ladders (Rank) and micros are utmost important in sc2(lets leave macro here for now) . So , im not hating ur set up at all for Dota but wASD will not work for me for camera control cos i wouldnt have enuff comfortable to hit keys for so many other things lol. What im trying to say is , u cant hate other people's Hotkeys. You jst experiment and even if u have a go to settings u olways use ,there are still ways to improve and be quicker if u try and experiment n practice with it. What u use(not u speed lol) might look stupid to others but what if u are faster than them?? Thats my point. A rank 80 hotkeys but i jst cant do that , i use arrow keys for camera movement but normally i use edge pan more !!! What im suggesting is not for u sir , ur rank 80 at this time so im in no position to give u my suggestion,Im just putting out there for other new players lol !!!
