Paul, I see why your name is the 'Photo Genius'. You are a Photo Genius and an excellent teacher of photography! I have learned so much from you. I have two (2) number #1 photos and they are the 'Coolangatta, Queensland' and the 'Lightning Bolt' photos. This particular video I really like. You answered questions about the particular camera I have. You broke down and explain the different camera settings for the Canon T7 EOS Camera 18-55 kit lens that some/most of us have purchased as a beginner. My safari photos turn out so well, that everyone asks me where did I learn photography. And of course, I referred them to your videos. Kudos to you, Paul, and keep up the great work and thank you so much! 😀👍

Thank you kindly Anthony. To be perfectly honest I chose the company name Photo Genius because I think it's memorable and sounds cool, and I certainly would not consider myself a genius as I believe we learn new things everyday. Thank you so much for the great feedback and for supporting my channel - lots more to come. Paul 😀

Paul some great shoots , you captured the mood perfectly .A tip I would like to share is . When iam taking shoots of touring cars is When taking your action shoots the closer you are to the cars / track you need to change your shutter speed to a faster shutter move back then you can slow the shutter back down . But becarefull not to stop the wheels stone dead or the car will look parked and not moving at fast speeds .I like the idea of you showing us your shots easyer to understand. Great video great work Paul

This was in my opinion the most helpful of your videos for beginners. I am somewhat intimidated by the exposure triangle and the settings on the camera. Great tutorials! I wanted to ask you: I understand now how to balance it (shutter, aperture, and iso), but how do you decide what shutter speed to use in the first place?
@photogenius4 жыл бұрын
With shutter speed you need to consider two things - Light and Movement. If you are shooting in bright conditions a faster shutter speed would be typically used - in terms of movement you would get sharper images as a fast shutter speed can "freeze" movement. If you are shooting in low light then slowing the shutter down allows the camera more time to record light (use a tripod btw) but in terms of movement you will get blur. Watch this video for more : kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5u2dauaiLatoNU Thanks for watching and supporting my channel.

@Kshitiz17853 жыл бұрын
But how to focus when it comes to first 3 shots ( 2 night shots and 1 panning ) . Usually it is said to manually focus at infinity( as kit lens don't have markings for infinity) for night shots or to a some light source at a distance to keep things in focus . For motion blur or panning also ,I manually focus on some point at a distance and when a subject is about to approach that point I take continuous shots following the direction of the subject. If there is another way , I would be happy to know. Love your videos.
@LaurensHoengenaert3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, Fairly new to this channel, but absolutely love it! I already learned a great deal from your videos and like the style, keep it up! Although I already watched a great deal of your videos, there's something I can't get my head around, and would be great if you could clarify: When using a tripod, the shutter opening time no longer seem like a big factor any longer. Especially when taking a panorama or still image without moving elements since your camera is stable on a tripod anyway. So why wouldn't you up you aperture until the max value (smallest opening) to have that maximum depth of field? During a practice session I took a picture of the evening sky on a tripod. One with a aperture of f7.1 and a shutterspeed of 1/200 and another one with aperture f32 and a shutterspeed of 1/10. Both images with an ISO of 100. They look fairly the same with the latter being slightly more dark. Why would you choose for one setting over another here? The same goes for you picture of lightning over Brisbane (awesome picture btw). You chose to keep the aperture at f9... why not increase it and increase the shuttertime to further increase the chance of seeing the lightning? Best regards and thanks again for these amazing videos!
@photogenius3 жыл бұрын
Hi Laurens There is a reason why it's not a good idea to stop down / close the aperture (largest f number) and this is called lens diffraction. I am planning to make a video on this topic very soon, but in short as the aperture opening gets smaller you will notice the detail in your images getting softer. This is why you will often hear landscape photographers talking about f11 as being the "sweet spot", of course every lens is different, but generally once you start to hit f16.. f22... f32 etc you will / may notice a blurring and softening of the image. I cannot recall how long the shutter was open for the lightning image, but whilst having a longer shutter speed may make sense, stopping the aperture down does not - it's all about finding the right balance. Hope that helps, and thanks for the great question!! Paul.
@LaurensHoengenaert3 жыл бұрын
@@photogenius Hi Paul, This certainly answers the question. Thank you! I've heard of this "sweet spot" before but was confused with the depth of field and aperture correlation. I wasn't aware there's a side effect of closing down the aperture too much. Something new to experiment with and take better photo's. You've got a new fully subscribed member on your channel, so looking forward to that video. Thanks again and take care, Laurens

The best two shots were the setting sun on the coolangata beach and the night shot with the river in the foreground, the bridge and the city in the city at the backdrop. The smooth creamy effect of the water is really dramatic. Here, I have got a question. I do a bit of bird photography. But there is a problem that I face when I go deep inside the forests as in tropical forests the light conditions vary. I keep the shutter speed as high as upto 1/2000 or may be 1/2500, the aperture remains wide open to 5.6 or 6.3 depending on the focal length, but at times the iso spoils the entire shot. As I prefer shooting manual I adjust all the parameters but at times, you know when there is a bird fluttering in front of me the first thing that comes to my mind is just lock the focus and click the shutter ending in either dark or overexposed shots. Shall I leave the iso to auto mode? Would that fairly do the job for me? I use a canon 5d MK 4 with a tamron 150-600 f/5-6.3

@MileyonDisney4 жыл бұрын
From iso.org (About page) "Because 'International Organization for Standardization' would have different acronyms in different languages (IOS in English, OIN in French for Organisation internationale de normalisation), our founders decided to give it the short form ISO. ISO is derived from the Greek isos, meaning equal. Whatever the country, whatever the language, we are always ISO." It's a word "iso", not an acronym "I-S-O". Think isometric or isochronous. It would be nice if KZbin influencers would learn this.

Great tutorial as usual, I was down in Brisbane last night to see Elton John's last concert, took my camera down, I thought I would get a photo of the Story Bridge and and some photos from the River Terrace of the City using the settings you use to take your photos as seen on KZbin during one of your tutorials about night photography, unfortunately it was raining a little, (We need the rain of course), but after the concert had finished it was around 1.00am when I got to the Story Bridge, but the city was to dark to get the great photos that you got, I so left it, I will have to try next time I am in Brisbane. Let me know when you are going to do a class of night photography and I will see if I can fit it in if work permits. Cheers Wayne

I have a question about the lightning shot. lets say the lightning struck on the 5sec mark, if you left the shutter open for the full 20 sec,would the lightning still be sharp like that? or would you have closed and completed the shot sooner? Thanks, great, informative video.
@photogenius4 жыл бұрын
Firstly, once you've started your 20 second exposure you are committed - you cannot close the shutter before the 20 second is complete. You can alternatively use the bulb mode which allows you to select when and how long the shutter is open for, I did a video on this which you may enjoy : kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYLdpoipdqykbKM If the lightning strikes just 5 seconds into the image it will still be sharp. Absolutely enjoyed your informative video, thank you for the great tips! I liked all of your photo examples, particularly 1 & 2. I hope to achieve this level of photography. The clarity & crispness is so wonderful. Also, I really need a great tripod, especially to support a 150 - 600 mm. I was wondering about telescope tripods? I am budget challenged. Any recommendations? Thanks so much for your time. Greatly appreciated
