Best review I've seen sofar. That boardroom meeting was right to the point. I'm also disappointed at the screen and the ridiculous 10fps. Kasey you are the one man.... You should get your hands on one of those A77 or A99 bodies and touch the best screen solution of all time which Sony already had but for some fu***** reason they have forgotten all about it!

Realistically, who buy an A1/A7Siii and then only have budget for cheap samyang/tamron lenses ? The high-end feature reserved for Sony only lenses is not really something a budget minded person really care about; like 30fps and breathing in video.

As always very entertaining. What you have here is a refinement to the crippling-to-protect strategy. Canon arguably the masters at this strategy are taking a slightly different approach. They have employed a smoke (overheating) and mirrors methodology, with the introduction of the Canon R5. This did two things for Canon, it increased sales (early adopters), and provided a fallback option as newer models are made available. Sony on the other hand is marketing a surcharge game plan for the A7lV; to test the evaluative acumen of their established base while appearing to address the needs, wants, and desires of a new type of customer. These new customers are more savvy about their purchases and require more substance than fluff (gratuitous features). OMDS has an October 27th Announcement Event. It would be nice if you could have an Olympus (OMDS) T-shirt in the works.

I'm a loser photographer who loved flippy screens even before doing video. But 1.03m dots is a joke. Awful rolling shutter, slow burst, cropped 4K60. It's got some good things, especially in video; but nobody is gonna leave Canon mirrorless for this body. Nikon, maybe.

I was going to buy an R6, but decided to wait on A7IV reviews. Having seen several side-by-sides, I'll be sticking with the R6. The only real advantage the Sony has (other than better overheating performance) is custom modes, a full sized HDMI and ALL i video, (Canon could add ALL i in a firmware update). Canon R6 color science, screen, EVF, IBIS, low light, burst shooting, 4k crop (or lack thereof) and even autofocus all seem to be better. Canon oversamples 4k from 5.5k, Sony from 7k, but with a crop....so pick your poison there. 33mp vs 20mp could go either way depending on what you want. Personally, I prefer 20mp. Still plenty of res, with faster shooting, less processing, less disk space and easier to work with. Honestly, a marginal improvement in over 3 years with a $500 price hike is pretty underwhelming, especially while Canon has been laying off the Cripple Hammer and actually making massive progress.

Bit rates on the image is really low by comparison. Fuji x-t4---All I with 400 mbp. VERY robust for grading and easy to grade and make look great! Good stabe too. A 6k image down samples to 4k at 400 mbps. Can you see the difference between the Fuji 6k at 400 mbp and the Sony 7k at 200 mbp down sampled? If you say you can you're a liar. A little better AF and, IMO, Fuji can rule the roost for mirrorless. Sony LOG---a nightmare to grade---and never looks right. You have to be blind not to see it. Plus, the A7III was a great camera (terrible color)...but you were shooting blind because BOTH the EVF and LDC were HORRIBLE. Connect it to an external recorder and the camera LDC screen went BLACK. You can't do a lot of stealth hand held/out and about shooting with an external recorder sitting on top of your camera. This is just another piece of Sony Iron Pyrite. The are the cripple masters.

the 4k 60 in Crop mode is the nail in the coffin on it for me.....No bueno. I'd rather just pay the extra 1k to get 4k120 in an S3 for a B cam. I may even prefer just to get a refurbished 73 and save teh money over this one because I know I'd be forced into HD120 on either for much of my shoots (weddings)

*How much better is the A7IV over the A7c (or Canon R6)?* I’m looking at buying my first camera for KZbin and social media (and zoom calls which will likely be my future if I can even get a corporate job - unvaccinated because of genetic clotting risks). I see this as an investment, so I want it to last as long as possible, as phones and monitors update in the coming years. *What limitations can they update via updates and what is hard coded or physically fixed?* I’ll be using free Davinci Resolve to edit and basic LUT grades. I’ll be looking at the Shure Mv7 desk mic or Rode mic for camera, and a 20mm f1.8 G Lens. My room is small and I have very broad shoulders. Any recommendations Cheers.

I come here because Kasey has the Vegetable Eye Of Truth. His 4D eyesight can cut through the allure of literally any camera to shed light on its imperfections. Always remember, Canon uses Sony sensors in many of their cameras, Nikon uses Sony sensors, Fuji uses Sony sensors. so you may be getting back a real winner here because they're gonna make sure their replacements are solid because they can't have repeat problems.. anyways.. how can you not like the view-finder? I LOVE the viewfinder. anyhow, I noticed some of the focus rings are not exactly easy to "fine tune" in manual mode. part of me wants to use a huge monitor under a hood to see how good the auto-focus is. hope you get your device back soon.

As far as I know, Canon makes their sensors in-house. They're the only company that doesn't heavily rely on Sony. That's why Canon has so many potato sensors in their full frame line-up that performs worse than a micro four thirds sensor, and why people who wanted dynamic range mostly picked Nikon over Canon when DSLRs were still popular.
