Omg, I feel for him, I lost everything in a fire a few years ago. It’s so sad, I lost everything, the things you can’t replace, Ornaments and cards your kids made since they were in kindergarten, holiday photos. To this day I still think about things I have and then realize, I don’t have it anymore, I lost it in the fire, they’re gone forever! People say, they’re only things but they’re things that meant so much and they can’t be replaced!

@ Thank you, I often feel like I’m over it until I need something I used to have and then I realize that I f don’t have it anymore. It’s not something you think about everyday, at least I don’t, until I need it, or until my boys remind that they don’t have something I’m talking/asking about anymore since the fire 🥲 It’s a process, it will take them years to get over the emotional loss. I was fortunate that we all got out and my 2 dogs, we sat across the street numb watching our lives turn to ashes. My dogs were traumatized by the whole thing. To this day, I can’t light a fireplace, my grill is at the end of the yard, as far away from the house as it can be. Those poor people don’t know the years of trauma that’s ahead. People use to say to me, you’re handling it so well. My fire happened a Friday evening, I didn’t go to work the Saturday morning because I had to find a home for my dogs and by clothes, I only had what was on my back, no shoes. I went to work the Sunday like nothing happened, it takes a while for everything to sink in. They’re going to be dealing with this loss for years to come, they have no idea as yet. I still get shivers when I see fire engines speeding by.

There is nothing more devastating than a fire. When my son was in college two kids left unattended in the apartment next to his were playing with matches and set fire to the apartment complex. They got out safely but burned out 11 families that day. My son was on campus and our little dog Chelsea was inside. When he returned he saw the fire trucks and immediately started running to his apartment to try and get to Chelsea. It took 4 firemen to hold him back. They later found her little body at the door where she was trying to escape. There was nothing left. I remember walking through the ashes and it is the most heart sickening feeling. My heart goes out to all of the people affected by these fires.🙏

My husband, at age 12, recalls watching his family home burn down. Not from a wildfire but undetermined causes. But even now, over 50 years later, he recalls his father, now in Heaven, valiantly trying to save the home with a single garden hose. He recalls his Mother, also now gone, grabbing the family Bible and some family photos. He said he didn’t have time to get his beloved baseball card collection, which would now be very valuable. Everything gone. He said the helplessness the whole family felt was overwhelming. But they rebuilt and moved on. What else can you do? Praying for California.

Very sorry for all who are suffering the loss of their homes. I lost everything in hurricane Sandy and I truly understand the devastation. Glad that Cameron grabbed the photos because in my situation my husband lost all the photos of his deceased son and those are the things that are not replaceable. Same thing, in my heart of hearts I kept thinking we would be spared so when we got the word to evacuate we grabbed important papers and such but weren't thinking of the photos in those moments. My heart truly goes out to everyone going through this as well as those still suffering in NC, Tennessee, etc from the last hurricane. We never recouped what we lost and I have since lost my husband so when I see disasters such as these it hits home and my heart breaks for all going through it.
