See. It's not about who can play the fastest. RR just had a way that, even after all these years, still leaves me in TOTAL awe!

Yeah, I always turn up the outro solo. Because it’s Randy and there’s so precious little of his playing. I was 15 when my friend had me over to hear Blizzard, and that was it. From then on, Randy became my ‘teacher.’ I didn’t care anymore about most other guitarists, really. Michael Schenker, Al di Meola and a few others. And I saw Ozzy and Randy the following summer, 1981 at Alpine Valley in WI. and I was so blown away! I barely watched Ozzy! Then a few months later came Diary. It so closely followed Blizzard, yet Randy had seemingly evolved overnight! Then, I heard King Biscuit’s Flower Hour of Ozzy on the radio and again, he torched my brain! He played all these fills in between - he was so beyond! And then one night, March 19, 1982, sitting on my bed and listening to the radio and playing my guitar, came the news of his death. He was a shooting star. Just a flash in the sky. I was heartbroken. Anyway, I really appreciate your spotlighting Randy. He needs lots of attention and studying. He was outstanding.

Randy didn't have the monstrous tone or the bag of tricks Eddie had and is still considered a musical peer of his. That speaks volumes about how important arrangement is.
@herbcanter21143 ай бұрын
Randy was a huge fan of EVH according to Rudy Sarzo . Guitar World: Were there any particular players Randy admired? Rudy Sarzo: Yeah, let me tell you who they were. He really admired Gary Moore and Eddie Van Halen. Those were his top two guys he really, really admired.

It’s always interesting to me how music affects people. Personally, I much prefer Randy over Eddie. For one of the reasons you mentioned. Eddie had a lot of tricks. But for me he didn’t really convey emotion. The VH stuff was also much poppier. Randy may not have had all the tricks, but you could feel the emotion in the song. Additionally, Randy had the classical background that always amazed me. Still does. EVH was an amazing guitarist, a trendsetter. A trailblazer if you will. Randy’s style and feel was much different. For me, Randy was what struck me. What really meant something to me.
@gibsonfan15926 күн бұрын
@@herbcanter2114 that may have been a "modern admiration" statement from Rudy, but Randy was certainly inspired by Mick Ronson most of all. He copied him to a t in the early days.

Every time I hear the outro solo, makes me sad that Randy left so soon. He was so brilliant makes me wonder what he would be doing now with his music…

Probably not a lot. He was apparently planning to leave Ozzy to go back to teaching once the Diary Of A Madman tour had finished.

Randy is my favorite metal guitarist, and the outro (and solo too) for tonight conveys so much range and emotion. Thanks for walking through it. Hard to pick a fav track of his, but this is def near the top.

And not really trying to pick a fight, but imo some EVH solos just sound bad. Can’t say that for any Ozzy/RR song.
