Lovely video! It brought me to tears remembering my camino aragonés back in 2013, including that intense (but also rewarding) jaca - san juan de la peña - santa cilia - detour. Thank you!

Thank you so much, I had a lot of fun making the video (it brought back my OWN memories!). Did you also walk that detour?? I very much agree that it was intense but also rewarding. Buen Camino!

Thanks Christian, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Working on it both helped with my inability to go on a long walk at the moment (by reliving the memories, etc) AND made me long to be back out on a trail.

Thank you Caroline, I'm happy that you watched and enjoyed it! It's been fun to add another layer to the way I share my walks (I love words, but they can only do so much. Something you have to actually see what's going on!)

Thank you Alan!! This is NOTHING like your outstanding videos, but it's a start. Making these videos has me missing the Camino even more, but it's filling the hole a bit, too :)

Nadine, this video was incredible! I'm so glad you made it. It reminds me so much of our time together hiking in France and the little videos you'd send me after I left. Ah I miss it so much, what I would give to go again. Please do keep making these videos, so great!

Honestly, Hilary, I'm pretty sure that I was "talking" to you in half of these videos... the only way I can get over my awkwardness!!

I did the Atarés route up to San Juan de la Pena in 2007 and it was murder. However, the monastery was so incredible that I wanted to see it again so on a second walk in the Aragonés in 2009 I asked at the Jaca turismo and the representative told me that it had deteriorated further-- he was a Mountain Dviision vet who had stayed in Jaca, and said that it was now really only suitable for training the military. I see by your video that he was right. While doable by the capable, I am glad that you did not downplay its challenges. That having been said, San Juan de la Pena is incredible and is among the top ten travel experiences of my life- your enthusiasm for it is q;uite justified- it is a reminiscent of one of Maxfield Parrish' paintings with the trees and sun through the ruins, albeit without the languid women. It is walkable up through Santa Cruz de los Seros, either by the road or by another tough path directly from the village. I stayed at the hospederia in Santa Cruz (no albergue, although there is one in Santa Cilia on the main Aragonés), and had a pleasant evening watching the sun set.

I was just talking about this particular day's walk with a few Camino friends, and saying that I definitely "bit off more than I could chew" by deciding to do this hike! Although, to be honest, I didn't realize just how hard it would be... I had a moment when I needed to sit down on a rock and give myself a pep talk to get through the rest of it. I think it was one of my most challenging Camino days, but worth it in the end. That said, I try not to recommend that particular hike to anyone! I think a bus/taxi is the way to go, or, as you suggested, the walk up through Santa Cruz de los Seros. I'm so glad to hear that this was a highlight for you as well; truly one of my most memorable days on any Camino!

Happy to see you on KZbin. I've subscribed to your WordPress posts as well. I did 2 Camino hikes, the French, and from Porto. My last trek was Annapurna region, Nepal. Doing treks every year for me has unfortunately been interrupted.. due to Covid. Glad you made it out!

Thank you, and I'm so happy that. you enjoyed the video! The Camino Portuguese is on my list (I was supposed to do it last summer, but yes, COVID interrupted those plans). My walk on the Aragonés was actually in 2019, so I haven't been able to make it back to Spain since then! The Annapurna trek is on my list as well... it feels like a big step to do something like that, I hope it was a wonderful experience for you!

Just watched your two videos on the Aragones. I will be walking this year starting in mid October. Will start in either Somport, Canfranc or Jaca depending on the weather. Really enjoyed your videos and looks like I will still be able to stay in the albergues along the way. Not sure what I will do when I hit the CF. This is my 7th camino and I your videos confirmed to me I will have to do a little bit of forward planning to make sure I will always have a bed and will carry enough food.

I just loved the Aragones, and I DO think you'll be able to stay in albergues most or all of the way (depending on your stages). I would love to go back and walk that route again, it just felt really special. And your 7th Camino! What a feat!

@@NadineWalks Thanks but when you are retired it makes it much easier to pursue a passion. Love to debate in my brain what routes I will walk. May just get to the Frances and stay on it. Or I may walk to Logrono and hop a train and do the Camino Madrid and then hook up on the Frances at Sahagun and finish on the Frances. I may not do that now as it seems lots of Madrid albergues are closed now and it will be November. Or I may walk to Logrono. Then find my way to Lisbon and walk the CF to Porto and try the Coastal route and the Espiritual Variante to Santiago. I must love to drive myself crazy haha. I am on day 4 of your videos of the Coastal. I should have no problems with Albergues as most seem to show they are open all year on Gronze. Maybe I will see you in a cafe somewhere on some camino one day!

Thank you!! When I took all of these videos, they were only meant to be posted to IG stories. I never thought I'd make youtube videos! But now, of course, I'm looking at all of this footage wishing I had shot it in landscape. Future videos will be better, hopefully! :)
