Hey guys! I was going to say just flip a coin and leave it up to chance. I have to say all your reasons make complete sense to us. As we get older those narrow steep trails just one wrong move we can twist an ankle and ruin it all. We prefer a large flat road even if steep just go slow and take breaks and we still think we would go a lot faster then a narrow trail. LOL! Who says no to wine! So sorry our favorite part is meeting others. Thanks again for sharing every step of the journey we are learning so much this is so great! Cant wait for someday!

We finished the CDN in late October 2024. We took the shorter and sharper option on this day, and it was beautiful. Far less road walking and wide, nicely graded walking paths. We were hit with very strong winds as we neared the top. So bad in places that I struggled to walk against it. Then a storm hit and we froze to the bone. We stayed in the same place as you and found most of the other half a dozen pilgrims in the bar. It was a beautiful day despite the weather.

Oh wow, that’s so interesting to hear. We heard from other pilgrims that they didn’t like the steeper route and they struggled to find the path. I’m so sorry to hear about the storm, that’s awful. Mother Nature can be rough on the Norte.

We did the CDN and finished late October 24. For this stage, we took the shorter and sharper option and were rewarded with the most spectacular scenery. Like yourselves, we had huge winds and then rain and biting cold. We also stayed at the same albergue in Abadin and were with half a dozen others. Turns out they were all hiding in the bar.

My choice was longer and less steep! Although this route did become quite steep towards the highest elevation, from memory 😅

@@CruisinwiththeColemans Yes - I started watching your channel because I'm planning to do theVia Francigena next year - hopefully starting from the Swiss border and finishing at the end of the Via Francigena del Sud. But then I got sidetracked looking at these videos for the CDN nostalgia 🤣
