Well done you two. That was a tough day. Last year I did the same distance over two days! Best wishes

What a nice place to stay! The story of Fr Valiña is one of my favourite camino stories.

in terms of slippery surfaces I now wear crocs with non slip soles plus waterproof socks. This may be helpful to you both

Hi Michael, not much has changed but a new piece of hiking equipment could be the thermos flask of some liquid filled at breakfast? Chris from Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺

That does sound like a good idea actually

At about 1:59 there's a sign for Pereje ( which I think Michael misprounces). But that's not why I write. Rather, the defaced sign is just one of MANY examples that you'll see beginning as you near the western border of Castille and Leon and even more frequently after you enter Galicia. I saw this particular one in June 2024, and you'll see it in the August 2019 image on "street view" on Google Maps (in that picture it has been hand-altered to "Perexe," which I imagine is either a Gallego or Leonese spelling). When you get into Galicia, where all signs seem to have been changed into the Gallego language, it's not the language that's being hand-changed, but rather the format in which the language is expressed. For example, in Galicia you'll see the signs with the name of the Miño River (and other words that have a tilde) changed to the Portuguese-style spelling of Minho. I imagine it's some sort of a barely-below-the-surface culture war.
